GREEN MAGE AND GEOMANCER AREN’T DEAD! Pictomancer is the brand new job added in Dawntrail for magical ranged DPS but Green Mage and Geomancer are NOT done! Lets talk about why Green Mage and Geomancer ARE actually coming to FFXIV in Dawntrail! Maybe not in the way you initially thought they would but they ARE coming let’s break down exactly why I’m making such a bold claim!

I can understand the negativity on the surface, but we need to look past the negativity and acknowledge who our developers are, the history of the game, the expectations they know the playerbase has and wants the playerbase has. It's WAY too soon to count green mage / geomancer out! WAY too soon!
ive wanted a painter since BLM got that pvp brush weapon !!
i love the idea of being a artist in combat
have not watched the video, but I love it already <3
Mop Mage
Perhaps Im a bit to greedy to want not just geomancer, but a particular kind of geomancer. Im really hoping we eventually get Geomancer ala FFT (my favorite class through it wasnt good at all).
Im hoping for an opposite of red mage where melee attacks slowly build up a gague for powerful magic damage range finishers.
So kind of a non-tank paladin?
Oooooh WHAT IF the baddies are green mages?
Hey Cole! Yeah I agree with you. I definitely have geomancer vibes from pictomancer indeed. Also, I feel that this is going to be pretty support heavy like bard at least. I believe this is the support caster we been asking for.
Pictomancer can't revive? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
I had a feeling they were going to implement green Mage mechanics into Pictomancer
You don't need Black Mage level damage output to be strong
If people want to unsub because you have a positive outlook on a new class, they seems like an issue THEY need to work through. Lol.
In predictable this class, I was 80% Green Mage, 20% Pictomancer. You were definitely on the Pictomancer side of it and you were right!
I also agree with what you're saying in this video. The chances of SE adding in EVERY magical ranged class through FF is impossible. This is a way they can mash a few into one, and then focus on other roles in the future expansion.
I'm personally excited for Picto! It's got an appealing aesthetic and my Fem Roe has always felt more artsy to me than macho/seductive like others try to portray them as. She's usually RDM/WHT and wears more elegant clothes. Can't wait for her to dress up in her painter's outfit and slay the beasts with her brush!
Potential gameplay similarities aside, aesthetically they are too different for me.
NGL, really hyped about pictomancer (mostly because you got my hopes up for it being another technical caster). I do still wish (gonna take 4+ years before this happens) we get a more nature/druidic themed mage but that might step a bit to much on white mages aesthetic
Let's remember Geomancer & Privateer are classes that already exist in the game, Othard and Limsa both has respectively showcase the class. You also have Magitek Knight that has been shown repeatedly. Chemist we even have had job armor for the role and arguable Songtress could link into the Christmas/ Little girls events while Gambler the gold saucer. The only class we haven't really been any signs really I think is chocobo knight.
I mean in theory they could release both… my ideas are too radical for SE though. I think a mage tank would be cool 😛
That’s bs people unsubscribe because they don’t get what they want. I’ll subscribe because you are fun AF and I am so hyped for pictomancer!! As a FF6 fan it’s something I always wanted but never thought we’d get.
Click bait. You don't know because some jobs on 11 are not like there 14 counterpart and what yoshi said could have totally different context then what your thinking
Thank you so much for making this video Cole! Yes I was looking forward to some kind of nature mage, but when I saw what kind of spells they use and how colorful everything is I honestly got so hyped! I agree, using the element wheel and how the job is described makes it close enough to nature for me and sounds like a lot of fun to play. I’m excited more about this aesthetic as well, we have plenty of glams that could make us nature themed, I was worried about it not being different enough from what we already have, but this really stands out. I am so hyped, thank you for your explanation!
I think many ppl are unhappy because despite the similarity, the aesthetics of Pictomancer is so childish and cartoonish, compared to the much cooler geomancer or green mage.
Ain’t nobody wanna play a kiddo job, the look and feel of the job is as important as the job utility itself, especially for games like XIV
A couple of things. I think a lot of people are upset about the aesthetic of the job. It’s not really about the play style, but the literal spell animations and sound effects. I am someone who was initially a little bummed that it wasn’t a water, air and earth counterpart to black mage. I am psyched about pictomancer.
That also being said, I think you’re reading into the translations a little. Black mage has zero party buffs. It’s the selfish caster. Pictomancer can have literally a single party buff and that statement is true. My guess is that if they’re balancing casters like they have in the past, that pictomancer will probably be below black mage in terms of personal damage, but will likely be close to when you add in their buffs. As you said, rez is one of the most powerful forms of utility. No way it’s going to be viable if it’s dealing summoner/red mage damage and doesn’t have rez. It will probably deals a little less damage than black mage and has party damage buffs.
The melee jobs all work in this way. Samurai has zero utility, but all the melees hypothetically contribute similar damage when you account for their damage buffs.
If geomancer becomes a job, i hope it becomes a limited job so they can make it accurate to the series. Theres no way an ff3,5, or tactics style geomancer could be balanced for a normal job. Its kind of nice to have limited jobs as a catigory as well to allow them some more creativity with gameplay style without destroying the balance of normal jobs
The problem is pictomancer spells look cartoony. It's not even artsy, like it's not a pretty water color effect that solidifies into elements or anything. It looks like a kid playing with paint…
That it's taking GEO's potential gameplay, and coloring it with these horrible effects is the most depressing thing since finding out Dancer wasnt going to be a healer, or realizing the SMN rework requires a lobotomy to be engaged by.
They should at least give bell weapons to Smn if everyone else is getting cool animations with theirs. Like ringing a bell to summon them. Our weapon totally sucks 😭
all i care about = dont be smn 2.0 boring/easy sleeper
& be fun ofc
The biggest problem I see with this argument is simply that I don't believe that Pictomancer will have support equal to that of Bard. In FFXIV, the devs DO consider Bard and Dancer as support jobs and since Yoshi P said directly that Pictomancer isn't really a support job paired with the fact that it DOESN'T have a raise I think that the job will have 2-3 support abilities outside of role action plus it's normal kit. I could TOTALLY see them giving Pictomancer some sort of debuff similar to Ninja as well as some sort of 2 minute raid damage buff plus some other unique utility ability like how Red Mage has magic barrier. However, because the job DOESN'T have a raise I kind of feel like their rDPS might end up above SMN and under BLM if they continue to balance the game in the same way. That is, of course, assuming they don't remove the raise ability from SMN which is a possibility since they did mention that they were close to removing it for Endwalker.
Omfg, crazy how people will rage unsubscribe because pictomancer was the job announced
Glad you have so much pull at squenix, cole 😂. Can you get them to add cross dc party finder? Kthx
Lmao, I feel like being subbed to you by this point is validation, it seems when you come out with videos, you hit on points I already have thought about. Though I sided more with Geomancy being the job rather than Green Mage, but conceded on Green Mage predictions that if it became a thing, it'd probably work more like FFXI Geomancer in the form of it being a mage that offers party buffs, which is our missing niche.
And my main take aways on Pictomancer is the emphasis on environments and monsters. My first concern during the presentation was that the "monsters" bit was gonna segway into it being a limited job like Blue Mage, but when they didn't do that, the question popped in my head of whether this would be their attempt at compensating for the lack of a non-limited Blue Mage without needing its job fantasy. Then the environmental aspect made me think of Geomancy, then when adding mention of elemental magic and party buffs, yes, I did think back to FFXI Geomancer (which I have to level 99) and also, FFVI Geomancer because they do spells off of the environment & the inclusion of a Moogle spell probably enhanced the latter. But if it means environment as in placing things in the environment, then it's definitely more of an FFXI Geomancer. And I'm hella on board for that.
And I think there remains a problem/limitation with add Geomancer is because of how they've established it in lore, which makes it more of a conjurer & leans more into concepts that are closer to IRL Geomancy but with its Final Fantasy flair. And as a result would also limit the elements we'd have control over. Geomancer would end up being a DPS branch of Conjurer if anything, if they were still doing that sort of thing.
A cool twist would be if there was some kind of Easter egg or bonus for doing the sightseeing logs as a Pictomancer. It'd probably at least bring in an element of FFXI's Geomancer, which collects spells in a way that's pretty much like it & in FFXIV you unlock paintings via the sightseeing log, so it'd be appropriate on two levels if this prediction/analysis is correct.
Obviously we'll wait & see, because I know we should take predictions with a pinch of salt. Because, well, I was wrong about Corsair and we were wrong about Geomancer/Green Mage, but that may only be partially wrong. Still though, I let my friend have their "I told you so" moment when they were team Pictomancer with the job predictions.
Why couldnt they give us these 2 instead of a Disney channel pictomancer.
FFXI Geo has Colures, not Colors. Personally I was also hoping for GEO/GRM, Pictomancer looks good but I just think this idea that it is similar is very weird. If you just read the description of FFXI it might sound like it but you kind of fail to take into account that BRD and BLM in FFXI are very, very different to XIV, and the way a support mage in FFXI works is also not paralleled in anything that exists in XIV.
Buffs work very differently in FFXI, you have access to two types of Colures that lets you effectively mix and match buffs at the same time. Luopans are closer to pets than just a landscape (but not really pets, I guess the closest XIV thing would be the SCH fairy.) The BLM comparison comes from the fact that they both share the same spells of fira, aero, etc.
From a surface perspective, if you decide to just read brief descriptions they might be similar. But in execution, not really.
