  1. I definitely agree with the notion of finding a goal for yourself and then working towards it is the better way to enjoy games like these. For example I wanted the Fallen Angel Wings which take quite a while to get because of either gil/fates. But doing that bit by bit while also doing other smaller things sets up an enjoyable little story for you to enjoy.

  2. All this is absolutely true! I'm currently doing this exact thing too. For some reason, ever since 7.1 dropped, I've been thinking to myself, "Hey – I'm okay at the game, but I can be better, let's do this." So I've been working on my rotation, and been trying to dip my toes into harder content too, and I tank as well! The Jade Stoa Unreal was also the first thing I did above normal difficulty, so this is just really relatable right now as I work up the courage to find people to do Extremes and maybe Chaotic with.

  3. It could be a coincidence but they seem to specifically pick easy unreals in .1. In 6.1 it was Ultima Weapon extreme which was just as easy as this (and an excellent introduction to extreme difficulty.) The ones they put later were a little more difficult. Zurvan and Thordan specifically had to be progged for a little while.

  4. I used to be terrified of harder content and tanking. The idea of joining PF on my own was uncomfortable, to say the least. But with ShB, I found I wanted the gwibs from the ex trials. It wasn't always smooth sailing, there were some less-than-chill groups, but the first time I cleared one, while current, was just such a great feeling that I was hooked. I had to see how far I could push myself. Initially, I went on dps jobs out of comfort.

I just finished tanking my first savage tier, more often than not as MT, and had an absolute blast.

  5. I honestly think party finder is what kills hardcore content.

Groups want efficiency, so new players have limited options and often have to play with other new players leading to more frequent mistakes.

Since I was off work for the holidays I tried the chaotic with a friend of mine and 80% of the day was spent waiting because someone would leave after 2 wipes on a group advertised as first timers going in blind.

The expectation to never fail and abillity of party finder to be picky about who you play with is such a huge barrier.

If I could just use duty finder to auto search a group and give it a few tries over a week I'm pretty sure I'd not only play more often, but also beat the fight in about 2-3 evenings of trying at maximum.

  6. This was refreshing, 14 is far from perfect but it’s stuff like this that I’ve always loved about the game, glad you stuck it out and were able to achieve something personally, that’s what gaming is about at the end of the day!

  7. Oh boy have I got a lot of thoughts on going into harder content as a new player. First of all let me say I think you’re going about it in the right way, you should definitely work your way up and starting with unreal is a really good starting point imo. If even a small portion of people had done this before chaotic PF might not have been as cooked as it is, realistically chaotic is not that bad but this is as a person that clears savage and ultimate on patch. There is nothing more telling that chaotic needs some sort of requirement such as clearing the most recent ex for access than being in an enrage to clear party and watching a different alliance fail literally the first mechanic of P2 causing a wipe then seeing a disband after 20 minutes of a 90 minute instance for actual days. I’m all for players getting into harder content but endgame raiding is something that needs to be worked up to and this is a great example of that, keep climbing brother

  9. easy or not it's a clear and that's worth celebrating. all the small wins add up and certainly count and i think generally society downplays a lot of that and focus on the top tier spectacles. i'm pretty new to hard content and so having 1 or 2 people shout LFG at me when i get a first clear on something gives me a boost. then i'll go try and reclear the fight to make sure i'm actually internalizing it and not relying on carries haha. once i realized that hey i'm not so bad, the hard content got more and more addictive lol. so with all that said, LFG congrats on your clear!
