  1. Just as everyone said, do not rush and just take your time and go to your pace. ARR is slow because it’s builds the story, I mean it’s an old expansion, so it needs to take time to set the story up to Endwalker. Secondly, just have fun. You will be distracted A LOT with leveling either your main or subs, the glamour, relic weapons, housing, blue quests so just have fun.

Oh and also, welcome to Eorzea, o Warrior of Light! May you walk in the path of Light! ٩(๑❛ᴗ❛๑)۶

PS. There is a way to take out every HUD without changing it to any layout, it’s on keybind setting and the default was ‘Delete’ if I’m not mistaken, just to make yourself easier (:3 」∠)

  2. ARR is very standard MMO. Part of its flaws come from the very shaky development it had to go through while fixing the original 1.0 release at the same time to make it actually playable. Voice acting is sparse and the actors werent given much direction, so performances were all over the place (I am somewhat biased as liking Alphi and Thancred because I love Sam Riegal and Tailsien Jaffe, to name a couple). While I liked the story, its pacing was wonky and – at the time I played – stretched out over a lot of extra quests that felt (and were later deemed) superfluous. Dungeon design was likewise uneven as the devs toyed around with how to structure them and the types of mechanics that were fun to play with, culminating in the rough experience of Castrum and Praetorium, which had a great overall presentation, but clunky play experience that has since been mostly smoothed out (I do miss some of the mechanics from the reworked dungeons though).

From late patch content/HW onward, they finally have the time and budget they needed to really start making the game they wanted. ARR had likewise setup a lot of the essential world-building they needed while more or less shedding off the relics of lore from 1.0 that were ultimately abandoned.

Overall I liked ARR, but it is definitely considered the lowest point of the game for a reason. It isn't bad, just a little rough around the edges. The game only gets better from here on out, so have fun with it and definitely don't rush it.

By the way, when/if you've finished 2.0/main ARR, I highly recommend having a friend(s) run you through The Coils of Bahamut raid unsynced to see the story there. If you can get a group together for a properly synced (and ideally min-ilevel) run, all the better. 😊
