Final Fantasy XIV PS5 Upgrade Edition (Beta Version) Gameplay

At long last the PS5 version of Final Fantasy XIV is available for download. I previously tested both PS4 Standard mode and PS4 Pro mode, and you can check those ones out if you’d like clicking these links below:

Whereas you only had two resolutions to choose from (playing the PS4 version on PS4 Pro or PS5), the PS5 version of FFXIV has three resolutions to choose from: 1080p, 1440p, and 2160p. 1080p is going to give you the best performance, 1440p seems to give you the best of both worlds with resolution and performance, and 2160p is going to give you the cleanest image, but framerate will fall short of 60fps, usually in the 40s. It can drop closer to 30fps if there are a lot of players gathered in an area. It does look very pretty in 4K though.

One thing you’ll notice right away is how much bigger the UI is. So if you’re playing on a big 4K display, you’ll have a much easier time seeing the UI. For the purpose of this video, the UI is set to 300%.

Something to keep in mind, this is me comparing the PS4 version played on PS5 vs the PS5 version. Load times have varied for me. Most of the time they’re pretty fast, but I have noticed that sometimes teleporting takes just a second or two longer on PS5. This is being called a beta, so maybe they’ve got some bugs to iron out. That being said, most of the time the load times will be faster on the PS5 version. Keep in mind, this is me comparing the PS4 version played on PS5 vs the PS5 version.

Here are some timestamps:

0:00 – 4K Mode
1:01 – Fighting some enemies
3:11 – Teleporting to Limsa Lominsa lower decks
3:30 – Running around
4:28 – Fast traveling to Arcanists’ Guild
4:35 – More running around
6:55 – Switching to WQHD Mode (1440p)
7:17 – More running around, but in 1440p60
10:34 – Fighting some enemies, but in 1440p60
11:08 – Switching back to 4K
11:58 – Trying out Full HD Mode (1080p)
13:03 – Back to WQHD Mode (1440p)
13:36 – Back to 4K Mode
14:01 – Walking around in 4K

Did I overdo it with the timestamps? Probably.

If you’re having any trouble finding the PS5 version on the PlayStation Store, here’s the link: https://store.playstation.com/en-us/product/UP0082-PPSA02954_00-FFXIVONLPS5000NA

It was showing up as the Free Trial version on the PS5 dashboard. Maybe that’s the right one, but I got confused and just used the web browser PlayStation Store to download the PS5 version of Final Fantasy XIV.

I know, I know… I’m not much further than where I was in the last two videos. But at least I’m in a different world with a new character 😬
