Final Fantasy XIV Online | First Impressions as a WoW player

Join me as I delve into the world of Final Fantasy XIV Online (for the first time) and see what it’s like

Coming from OSRS (5 years) and later WoW (15+ years) trying out something new. See what the buzz is all about!

I’ve never played any of the Final Fantasy games before, so this will be a first impressions through the eyes of someone completely new to the game, it’s story and world.

  1. Being new to the game I can see how you are scared of the tank role. Even veterans of the game have what people call "tanxiety" but honestly it's the easiest role to play in higher level content. The only big hurdle you have is needing someone to mentor you in all the do's and don'ts of tanking and the basics and you can do all the content with relative ease from there. I love tanks because you control the pace and I can see the battlefield as a whole and see what others are doing. As a DPS I find myself tunnel visioning into only what I'm doing and miss things

  2. Welcome in the game, fellow Warrior of Light! I hope that you will like it here!
I saw in your comments reply, that you changed your mindset slightly about some of the races – and I'm glad to see that.
To be honest, after coming off from WoW it's really hard to call miqo'te a furry race, after being used to taurens, vulpera, worgen and even draenei (they still have horns, hooves, tails and tentacle-like stuff on their chins). And trust me, I played WoW for like 13 or almost 14 years, so it's hard to call me out as biased and not knowing what I'm talking about 🙂
It's still a fantasy game, where races have some features – cat ears and tails, bunny ears, scales, and it's better to think about it that way. Nobody will force you to play as something you don't like (until you will lose a bet to a lalafell, who will then trick you to change into a lala yourself :D).
I myself play on Spriggan but I also visit Omega often, due to having there some friends, and to buy things from market board ^^ When I will see you I will for sure come to say hi 🙂

  3. It's the base game plus heavensward the first expansion that is free. Base is to 50 and then Heavensward is to 60. Also they have suggested that Stormblood will eventually be added making it up to oevel 70.

  4. for any other jobs u wanna level later on as someone coming from wow with faster combat, id suggest power leveling to around level 16. You wont be able to do it until youve progressed further in the game to higher level zones, but once u do with a friend help you can get a level 1 job up to around 16 or so in like 20-30 minutes, and unlock more then just one or 2 skills and get to the levels where you can do dungeons. I just watched a video on the most efficient alt leveling methods, worth a watch once youve got your first max level character. welcome to eorzea, get past the initial slog and so much fun will be waiting

  6. Some those Green popup tutorials are worth paying attention to and can be informative as a new player to FF14. I say that myself too as a former WoW player for a very long time. Most Important Quests are the MSQ Quests (Main Scenario Quests – They Unlock the entire game/Story), The Blue Quests (Special Unlocks Quests). Don't spent time on Side Quests but do on your Job Quests. However else you choose to play is up to you. But MSQ Quests will unlock the game as you play. Dungeon at your own convenience. The First Expansion ARR is not completely voice acted as it was the expansion to fix the game relaunch. But after 2nd expansion onward there are far more and most voice acting and it gets far better. New Sub – 61 Paladin.

  7. You can faster travel in the city by attuning yourself to the smaller Aethers that you keep running past. The thing with being a veteran of other MMOs is in thinking your aware of everything and thus miss the things that are game specific which can greatly aid you. Every city have smaller aethers to speed your travel around. You also don't have to keep doing all the city quests which are normal quests. The MSQ's move you forward. The "Novice Channel" can also be of great help which is a channel for new players just ocassionally glancing at what is happening in that chat.

  8. Pay attention to your MSQ Quests. For example up too the point of 2:20 your still running around doing all the normal city quests that pop and the MSQ Quest and for your class isn't touched. The MSQ quest can be seen in the upper left corner of your UI just above the USE CODE thing on your streaming overlay. While the normal quests help you learn the city and great, Your MSQ and Blue Quest (Special) you haven't yet paid any attention to.

  9. Also as a Maurader (Tank) try and do all your Class Trials before level 16-20 as you can do them as of lvl 15 if i remember. You do them at "Smiths" at the INN. And DO THEM ALL! You wont regret it!

  10. Hunting Log Recognition Creatures. At 3:11:23 when you were staring right in front of the Bogy creature, that is a creature in your Hunting log you were suppose to kill which you weren't aware of at the time. ALL Hunting Log creatures have that special looking coil icon/symbol above their head so you can easily recognize them. Once killed the symbol goes away.

  13. This can be hard to explain… wow and ff14 are similiar yes but they do things different enough that it might throw you off. If you are a wow refugee I highly recomend getting into the habit of reading this one out since the systems are different you are missing vital information on how the game is fundamentally different. Also save side quests for alt jobs, focus on the MSQ( the Q on fire) and Blue + ones. Quest tracking can be done by clicking the blue text in the quest list, it will show you where to go.

  14. The first thing I do when I make a character in FFXIV is go through the settings and personalize them. I've got it down to a few minutes. But there are a lot of things I found out as I went along, mostly watching videos, seeing how other people had their settings, going, "Wait, I can do that?" But also from talking to people in game and getting ideas. Some is just experience. Like I know I don't want things in the HUD in certain places, so I'll move them. Getting the interface how you like it is a longterm project. Good news is everything is adjustable.

  15. FF Series included FFXIV has a deep story, and not about the cutey story, the cuteness in FFXIV is a balance to the dark and grim story. SO it is very far from cartoon way story like peoples thought. Anyway, what a surprise, you have the same birthday as mine, only one day difference. LOL Plus we both had Indonesian bloodline. So Nice to know you.
