In light of a lot of WoW creators and players trying out Final Fantasy XIV, I decided to put together a quick guide to get you started on your trip to Eorzea. Hopefully this will help some of you out there.

  1. I started playing Wow at the start of the lockdown, hadn't played it since Cataclysm. I had fun again for a while but I really feel like I'm playing a service instead of something made by passionate people (exception – the art team)
    I'm ready to try FF14 !

  2. Does the preferred server exp buff only apply to characters of accounts that have purchased the game? I'm on a free trial on one of those preferred servers, and I see new players with and without the buff. I'm not sure if I have it or not.

  3. I've never liked MMOs nor have I ever played Final Fantasy. But I heard great things about this game and I like a good story, so I think I'll be taking my first venture into both areas now. Thank you for the starter video 🙂

  4. I have a some questions.
    1) Is there a drawback to buying FF14 on Steam? (I don't have a credit card.)
    2) Does the subscription function like WoW, or does it count down only when you are actually playing?

  5. Cool tutorial and all… but really, how do I get out of this big city my wizard is in so I can go and do some fighting? Thats what I really want to know. I just started playing, and I don't know how to get out of town. There are also no tutorials nor reddit threads, etc. Telling me how to do that. I think it would be important for new players to know.

  6. I think a massive problem this game has is that the proc animation is held solely on the button bar. So, with proc heavy specs you're just staring at your buttons instead of the action. Thus missing out on some great looking emergent gameplay.

With WoW, I rarely had to look at my buttons. I could focus my attention on the action, the animation, the sparkles. The procs, I could configure to my liking, having it central but not obtrusive. Admittedly, this came from an excellent mod but I wish Devs paid more attention to the mod scene. The QoL addons available should not be ignored.

Edit: I felt like I should make something apparent. I quit WoW about a year ago, possibly longer. Today, I bought FFXIV and all current content available. I'm 3 hrs in, I'm level 13 and I'm loving the feeling of adventure FFXIV has given me so far. Today I left my PC with a slight smile on my face realising I'd actually enjoyed an MMO again, instead of endured a never ending treadmill of time gating and currency farming.

  7. After the recent news today, I am seriously considering cancelling my WoW sub and moving to FF14. I don't want to support a company that covers up a woman killing herself due to sexual harassment.

  8. Awesome job dude. I felt like I know enough to get going without knowing wtf is happening or why. Noob to FFIV 3 yrs since I left WOW, feel the need to join something big. This, I hope, is it. L/s.

  10. I’m definitely about to get back into the game. I played for a year and stopes once I discovered Animal Crossing. But I miss it. Plus I haven’t finished the story just yet

  11. The servers are a little different now…
You choose the server you would like…
Click the sign up for that server button… then it says "Realm is full"
Then after a few minutes of getting "Realm is full" messages from different servers, you frantically click on every server and just hope you get lucky!
At least thats how it worked for me 😀
    Good luck!
