Final Fantasy XIV Is The Best MMORPG Right Now

I know this might be a topic of contention, but, Final Fantasy XIV, as of June 18th, 2021, is indisputably the best MMORPG right now.
And I’m well aware there are going to be multiple of you that sit there at this very moment, jaw agape, in complete disbelief that I’d say something like that. But this shouldn’t come as a surprise. I’ve stated this in previous years, and after having played Shadowbringers, it’s more evident than ever how high quality a title this is.
But at the same time, as no game is infallible, Final Fantasy XIV does have areas that need improvement. Aspects of the game that are missing.

Final Fantasy XIV is an amazing MMORPG. It’s absolutely gorgeous – sure, it might not necessarily hold up graphically when compared to newer games developed with modern tech, but there’s no denying that this is a stunning MMO.
The combat becomes much more difficult at endgame, requiring active micromanagement of every aspect of your job: damage mitigation, instant casts, regens, heals, aggro. Yes, there are tab-target combat systems that are better, but trust me when I tell you this feels more than sufficient.
The world is expansive. Every expansion adds in a surplus of new zones that are more exquisite than the last.
The narrative spans so many years worth of content, with it finally ending in Endwalker, and beginning a new storyline for the first time in a decade.
There’s just so much content to consume that you’re never at a loss of where you should go or what you should be doing with your time.
I know some people will argue that there are plenty of MMOs out there that offer these very same things. And you know what? I’m not saying they don’t. Guild Wars 2, The Elder Scrolls Online, World of Warcraft. They’re all very high quality titles within the genre.
But to me? Personally? Final Fantasy XIV is better. It just does everything right. It offers me – as an individual – everything I want out of an MMO, and because of that, I can say with 100% certainty that this is the best MMORPG in 2021. And with Endwalker coming, it will likely be the best MMORPG in 2022 as well.

  2. As somebody who has played many of them, FF14 is an excellent Final Fantasy title. It's just barely even an MMORPG. Whether you like or dislike the systems, there are no gearing or build options. Every person who plays a job is playing it the exact same way. There is no actual pvp. The choices made by the developers make sense in light of how horrifically badly 1.0 failed, and so every choice made in ARR onward has been the safest possible one. The game takes almost no risks from a content development perspective. On a note about visuals, the game starts to really look quite good in the later expansions, but textures and polygons in ARR often look like something out of a PS2 game. There is a lot of really slow, ugly gameplay that a new player has to slog through before the game starts to pick up. I play and enjoy the game for what it is, but it is not and has never been the "best" MMO available.

  3. I disagree that FFXiV is the best MMORPG now. It is the only one that many people play at the moment because the rest are not good or people are bored of them. Many by by end of the year or next year, things will change. FFXiV is very linear. Boring for me. I prefer open world free exploration MMO.

  4. This game has its goods and bads. It’s very focused on the mandatory billion hour long story that I could care or less about. The character creation actually sucks. But it’s a pretty social game. The housing is decent. The crafting is also pretty good. The graphics are nice. One of my favorite things is the extensive list of emotes that really help people interact in fun ways.

  5. yeah they have been sleeping PvP part of the game for the last decade. tab targeting combat with 2.5s global cd. in 2021. not even hybrid action combat with skillshots and dodges. elt alone true action combat like Smite r the Kings avatar animation. they thought that they are gonna solve the issues by adding crazy animations but that only cluttered the game. now because of that they cannot even lower the global cooldown because of crazy animations. and that didn't solve the core issues. tab targeting combat. imagine Final fAntasy game with true action combat like Smite. the game lack innovations and it is 20 years behind in many aspects. social and PVP especially. the game is outdated in many forms at this point. oudates subsription model, oudates combat, no chat bubbles, no small text size option, no voice chat, all u do is look at chatbox whole day long which sux, not a single good 4v4 map like heavens arena from the kigns avatar, no blue mage in PVP, lack of social and PVP events/quests/mounts, 0 innovations too… no ability to tame open world monsters as your mount, most good mounts are locked behind pay wall or insane grind…they dont even combine pve with pvp elements…like open-world raid bosses where players/guilds fight to contest them…these bosses could drop epic mounts or exp/gear tokens and that could be 1 alternative tos tory leveling… they sleep on the shoulder of work of previous generations… they only care about story and pvp content total alck of social and pvp features… and peopelt aht actually care about the game..people that complain…are often seen as toxic….the overwhelming pozitivity is also the reaosn th game is oudated…also new palyers cannot post on ffxiv subreddit…

  7. My several critical break points:

    1. Player movement sucks… WoW has a crisp feel, FF is very sloggy…not fun to me
    2. Anime/Asian aesthetic…not my bag.
    3. Invisiable Zone barriers…. can't walk past some areas. (That made me log off, and not play again)

  8. Have your sins been forgiven today and forever?  Think about this.   The God of the bible,  the One True God made us to worship him, obey him, and enjoy him forever.   We break His laws daily by not putting Him first, not thanking Him like we should, we lie, we lust, we have sex before marriage, we dishonor our parents, we covet things other people have, we take God's name and use it in vain,  we use it in a low manner,  sometimes as a cuss word,  (God is holy and even His name is holy),  we don't love like we should, etc.  In doing so we're saying He's not a good provider,  He's a liar,  He's untrustworthy,  He's not worthy of praise.   All these things and more are counted against us.   The bible says God is the just judge of the world and one day He will settle the score for all the wrong we've done.  God is holy meaning He is righteous (morally perfect in thought, word,  and deed)  It also means He is set apart and higher than us.  God  being good, must punish all sin or wrong doing in the world.  This means that if you sin one time God will cast you in hell for eternity.   Because He is good and He doesn't turn a blind eye to sin.  But there is good news.  2000 years ago Jesus the Son  of God came into this world and lived a perfect life ( He never sinned once)  and He died on the cross taking the wrath that we deserve and paid the penalty for the sins we committed.   The bible says that if you will repent (confess and forsake your sins)  and trust in what Christ did on the cross (He took the wrath of God that was meant for you and I) then all your sins will be forgiven and when you die you will be in heaven with God and all who believe for eternity.  Jesus died and on the third day He rose from the grave.  Get right with God today don't wait.  Once you die after that comes the judgement.  Hebrews 9:27 It's the most important thing you can do.   You must be born again John 3:7 If you repent and trust in what Christ did on the cross it shows that you've been born again or born spiritually.   Right now you're dead in your sins and you can't see the beauty of Jesus Christ but after you trust in Christ all the things you hate about God like obeying him,  serving Him,  loving Him and others,  reading the bible, praying and going to church you will love to do those things because God changes your heart.   That's how you know you have been born again and forgiven.  Please think long about this and ask me any questions you have as this is the most important thing you can ever think of in your life.   An eternity in hell (darkness and a lake of fire the bible describes it, with weeping and gnashing of teeth)  or an eternity out of that place and into the loving arms of God who is infinitely glorious, has infinite knowledge and has infinite power to do all that He pleases.   You decide.   Have a great day!

  9. I've played plenty of MMOs growing up (RuneScape,Tera, GW2, PSO2, etc) but FFXIV was the one game I've played since closed beta and put more hours in that is naturally healthy 😂

  10. And what about the community? I literally dropped WoW because the community is too toxic, they assume you have been playing since the begining and if you're a new player they won't explain to you what they think it's basic in the game.

  11. FF14 is fun to play at the end/beginning of an expansion – usually play for first six months after release…Square Enix does a good of making my wife and I resub every ~ 75days to walk through some doors, too… cough

  12. Always wanted to play FFXIV but the price model puts me off everytime. Base/Complete game + Monthly subscription… I'd rather pay for a Final Fantasy game like 15 or 16 than pay monthly fees.

  13. Hopped in as a fresh new player the other day. Was just roaming around Limsa doing some side quests. Someone invites me to their company, gives me 40000 gil, says I can take whatever I want from the company chest and do end game dungeons with them when I’m ready. Pretty cool experience so far.

  14. I just started playing the game last week, coming from ESO. I have to agree that it's a very good MMORPG and has potential to be the greatest. The only major downside for me is the lack of proper anti-aliasing. There are so many jaggies on grass, trees and edges when moving around that it's really breaking the immersion for me. They really need to implement TXAA or any form of modern anti-aliasing like ESO did, cause all those jaggies/shimmering really hide the beauty of the game and make it a lot less appealing to people like me who put a lot of importance on the quality of graphics.

  15. Too bad FF14 is the same shit as retail in the end except with weeb stuff to do and see

I played 3000 hours of ff14 and raided since stormblood

It was refreshing until it became evident that it's just a weeb version of retail with story if you care for it

Ff14 copied the theme park mmo during WoW Mists

Maybe if they copied TBC it would be good enough
