Final Fantasy XIV – I levelled Mining from 1-60!

This week I decided that I would level one of the profession based jobs in Final Fantasy XIV. I chose Mining to be able to support Armorsmithing and Weaponsmithing at some point in the future. I have now levelled from 1-60 in A Realm Reborn/Heavensward which took 2 days of reasonable play time and I am looking forward to continuing into Stormblood. I have also included a quick comparison to gathering in World of Warcaft.
I have Botany at level 19 and will look at this in the future.

  1. You're not the only one that had a tough time progressing through the gathering process. I found in many cases I skipped over the actual job quests when I could by checking what I needed for the quest and then checking the market board to see if I could just buy it for a reasonable price. For levelling, I would use a mix of Leve Quests, the gathering Beast Tribes and Grand Company turn ins to gain XP. Then once I was essentially over levelled for a job quest I'd go back and do it (if I couldn't buy my way through). Later on it smooths out quite a bit and the levelling speed itself also massively increases. Just doing Leve quests, Beast Tribes and turn ins will get you levelled in no time, no grind at all required. Oh, and as for the Treasure Maps, don't sleep on those even if they're lower level. Some of them have a chance to drop some items that are still very highly valued so if you can complete the iMap yourself you can sell the item or you can sell the map itself for a very good profit. (for example, the Leather maps in Eastern La Noscea are the only way to get a rare drop that is used in crafting a newly released housing item and the finished crafted item can sell for nearly 1million gil)

  2. I love gathering and crafting in FFXIV! 😀 Sounds like you've been enjoying it too. Hoping you're doing well!
I really love how there is a ton of synergy between gathering and crafting. The thing that took me the most time to figure out was the priority of stats, and the whole collectible thing.
For collectibles that you can't turn in because of quality, you can sell them without worries.
For materials to keep, items from hidden nodes can be good if they are used to craft many things. You can always check what the crafting items can be used for if you right click them and select "Search recipes using this material".

  3. The higher your perception, the better chance of getting high quality items. As you mentioned, gear affects this and there is also food buffs that will raise it. For the low rarity collectables, unless they have a sell price (which if I remember correct they usually don't,) you'll want to toss them to free up bag space. Side note, you can also level a retainer up to become a gatherer as well and spend venture coins to send them out to collect resources for you. You'll need to have gathered the particular item you want first before they can go out and collect it. And, just like you, they have a chance of obtaining HQ items.

  4. There are a lot of ways to progress, most common way now is using Diadem in Ishgard and turn them in to the restoration vendors. You can start at lvl 10 in there, after you finished the Heavensward MSQ. You can also use levequests, or try to fill out the gathering log. You get extra exp for gathering things you never gathered before. In Heavensward you also unlock the gathering/crafter Beast tribe for exp. And at lvl 50 you unlock costume delivery that will give you gathering scrips that you can buy endgame gear with, meaning lvl 50, lvl 60, lvl 70 and lvl 80 gear.

  5. For leveling there are grand company turn ins if you are a high enough rank to do turn ins. These give a lot of xp. You can also do leve quests and those give a lot of xp. I'm not sure if you were just gathering blindly, that's what it sounded like ( leve quest link https://ffxiv.consolegameswiki.com/wiki/Fieldcraft_Leves ) For collectable stuff you just gotta trash them basically. Either literally trash them or see if you can right click and "desynth" them i forget what it's really called like aetherical reduction or something like that

  6. Hi mashie! So happy to see you enjoying other aspect of the game also! Not everyone is fond of gathering, but i found it to be like sort of ASMRish to me xD

Also looking forward to you trying fishing and crafting also! I found fishing is really different from other gathering, and crafting is really fun with interesting job storyline! :3

  7. The reason why there is such a huge jump between A Realm Reborn and heavensward is because it is the assumption that whenever you go into Heavensward you have leveled up and acquired higher-quality gear from A Realm Reborn given time between patch cycles and expansion releases. You're going to see a similar thing going into stormblood and again going into shadowbringers. As a veteran crafter and gather, my best advice that I can give to you is to acquire the Ironworks Gathering gear, which is the highest quality Gathering gear for level 60, and the materials are fairly easy to get a hold of with Poetics and if you have a crafter in your free company I'm sure you could ask for some help. If we were on the same data center I would obviously offer to help but alas. Getting ahold of this gear will be the easiest thing for you to do and if that is out of range you can use yellow scripts to farm for level 60 gear. You might even be able to find some really cheap on the market board, but that can vary. As for what items you should be Gathering, basically anything that can make a core crafting item. These change every expansion of course, an example would be electrum ore needed for electrum ingots or mythrite sand for mythrite nuggets. A tedious way for you to do this of course is to look at an item in your Gathering log and go to FFXIV gamerescape and see what that item is used for. Or you could also go into the market board and see what is selling, most of the things that you find in gathering at lower levels have already gone past their relevance, but that doesn't mean everything is useless, Square Enix has actually made an effort to make sure that older materials get reused and seeing what is selling is actually a good filter to what is worth your time. That will take a lot of time, but it is best that you are gathering before you are crafting because it's much easier on you in the long run. If you have any questions, please ask! I have helped many people level their gatherers and crafters and I'm more than happy to share my knowledge. :3

  8. collectable items with too low rank are not useful. you can right click them and turn them back to normal items, you have to use your colectability skills to get high colectability, the most common rotation is : Discerning Eye > Impulsive Appraisal II > Discerning Eye > Impulsive Appraisal II >Single mind > Methodical Appraisal > Collect 1 or more depending on how many atempts left you have on your node.

it also requires 600 GP minimum to use this rotation, and you can replace the discerning eye for "single mind" when the impulsive apraisal gives you the buff.

  9. I definitely use engineering manuals as well, the ones you can buy from your grand company, they do things like give you 20% extra exp for the next two hours of gathering, they stack really nicely in the diadem too, along with your food buff for an additional 3% exp
