  1. Oh, my Warrior of Darkness, you big edgelord, how are you? Still going on about that world of yours, the one that you failed to save because you suck? Ah, I see you found the glowing orange soap. Instead of theatrically posing with it, like a nerd, you could to do something productive with your free time and grab some warm water then use that soap to scrub something vital to your continued survival. HINT, HINT, HINT.

  2. well hey I´m just here to say that the other day read a post about how everyone in arcane is hot but in really diferent ways… holly heck same in this game 😳😳🥺

  3. You'd think Titan would be easier now that he was summoned with fewer crystal's, not harder. It looked like he was summoned once in the cutscene and then another time for the fight so is there still one of them around?

  4. A note for those who are only watching this series (or are re-experiencing the story again after a long time): This is actually the second time that Titan (Hard) is required to be completed in the MSQ. As of me writing this comment, facing off against the "Hard" versions of Ifrit, Titan and Garuda is a requirement to even starting the patch 2.5 MSQ quests (which start with "Good Intentions"). This is disregarding them being required for the Coils of Bahamut as those are optional.

Also, TECHNICALLY (these days) the "Hard" trials are the actual normal difficulty versions (where the "Hard"-suffix was just added to all level 50+ trials that had an "Extreme" version) whilst the "Normal" trials are simplified easy difficulty versions. Thankfully, they stopped adding the "Hard"-suffix from every post Bismarck trial as I think the devs realised that it just confused people.

  5. I've always found it funny that the trial that broke me the most was repeated old content. But boy. I went into Titan HM, started the fight, and then saw that Titan's usual dialogue was different…I was so shocked I almost died to a Landslide.

3.4 remains my favorite patch story in the game, culminating in that Titan fight as such a powerful moment, and the rest of it doesn't disappoint either.

Seeing "Masked Elezen" very obviously using Urianger's speech mannerisms but still being called by a pseudonym (even after explicitly mentioning Minfilia and Moenbryda) is hilarious. We rarely see him without his hood and goggles, so he could've totally kept fooling the player if it wasn't for the small fact that he's the only guy in all of Hydaelyn to talk like that.

For as much of a sussy baka as he's being, he seems to truly believe in his "chosen path". Manipulating the Warrior of Darkness to fight the Warrior of Light is certainly an interesting development. I wonder what his plan ultimately is? (I mean, I know, but many of you don't.)

Alisaie is simply not here for his bullshit. That tends to be a repeating character trait of hers, and it's great.

For as little of the MSQ as he is an active part of, Ga Bu is everyone's WoL's adoptive son. He also became something of a meme among the localization team. There was a panel at a past FFXIV Fanfest showing off their musings on WWGBD (What Would Ga Bu Do). Answers included, summon Titan, buy a gazebo, do The Dew, not rewrite text after data fix, Cor!, Not work past 22:00, fix holes in the Source (even though it really isn't his job), make the bad kobolds fly, make Monkey Island references, make you rue the day and rue it hard, do the Electric Boogaloo, take over the means of production, and eat moths for breakfast.

  6. 20:25 The, er, I'll call them 'ritual bones' Alisaie spoke of I believe to be something you can indeed collect from beating extremely difficult versions of the Primal fights, and you can exchange them for special loot. It's something I barely remember as a new player doing Lv50 content, so I'm not positive.

25:33 "Durmin's Tiny Pockets" – There are some absurdly large items you can shove into your inventory. The item description usually acknowledges this, yet makes no attempt to explain how. It never fails to amuse me.

  7. Playfriends, it's time to help Red Leveilleur! I mean Alisaie! This is your spoiler free lore comment.

Fashion designer Tataru Taru strikes again! And if you think Krile will be bringing embarrassing stories about Alphinaud, Alisaie has entire cartload more. Alphinaud is going to have to get used to being taken down a notch periodically. The twins aren't often used for twin confusion jokes in this game, but when they do, they're great.

These quests are great at doing the primary two objectives: one, better defining what occurs during the summoning of a Primal, and two, giving us an immediate understanding of Alisaie's character. The Binding Coils of Bahamut were optional content, so her introduction needs to cement who she is to for players. And her actions in the Binding Coils didn't define her personality more than her yearning to understand her grandfather. Here, her interactions with Ga Bu show that she's caring to children and finds the horrors of summoning reprehensible. She is willing to reason with the tempered. She can be reckless, grabbing Ga Bu in spite of the danger to all.

What summons a Primal? Aether, usually in crystals. And a belief. A belief in a power to affect change. Sometimes that belief is in worship, sometimes in pure will. And sometimes, it's in desperation, looking at an unconscionable situation, and screaming for help. Ga Bu shows that it's not just priests who can summon Primals.

The Kobold Patriarch… isn't wrong. Limsa has broken promises, time and again. Not just to the Kobolds, but to the Sahagin too. When people are pushed to their limits, the harm comes back to haunt everyone.

Alisaie's monologue under the night sky caps what we know about her. She's sentimental, but learning that experience doesn't make the pain of loss hurt any less. And she won't give up on a child, even one who might be tempered. This writing is some of the real good stuff that has become the norm in Final Fantasy XIV.

We know that voice (it's Timothy Watson)! We know that weird diction! Moenbryda's loss changed him, but why has he aligned with the Warriors of Darkness? Alisaie is closing in on him though…

  8. Titan is the single most common primal fight in the MSQ- there are, I think, three or four different instances where you fight him. Do keep in mind, I specified "primal," "MSQ," and "instances."

    Ga Bu. 🙁

  9. Next primal lore is of Titan, and his is one of my favorite creation myths in A Real Reborn. Again, episode spoilers in comment.

"In the beginning, the world was a place of relentless hostility: Cold. Hard. Unforgiving. The Great Father Titan gazed upon this inhospitable land and saw that it was in need of custodians. Thus did he mold the ground beneath him, breathing life into soil and clay, and crafted the race of kobolds. But the newborn creatures were not resilient like the rock or the stone, and they could not dwell alongside the savage beasts that stalked the surface.

Seeing the frailty of his children, the Lord of Crags sent magma to flow through the holy mount of O'Ghomoro, the molten rivers leaving behind rich veins of ore. Thence did he teach the kobolds the ways of mining and the secrets of smelting, and newly girt with armor and weapons of metal, the beastmen did force the beasts to flee. Greatly satisfied by the success of his guardians, Titan returned to his bed in the mountain's crater. Ere he sank beneath the boiling crust, he left the kobolds with a promise; when his children needed him most, the smoky breath of O'Ghomoro would herald his return."

I won't go over Ga Bu's current condition, but there's a fun thing about the kobolds of FFXIV and smelting. If you finish the level 1-50 Armorer questline, H'naanza (the guildmaster) will give a small bit of history: the kobolds have found cobalt ore during the times where Limsa Lominsa traded with the kobolds, and that the ore was originally named after the beastman miners. This is notably more positive than the real life version of the tale, where it was named for kobolds because of the miners finding out the ore's actually quite toxic and blaming it on the sprites.

Another fun fact is that if you've unlocked the Binding Coils but did not do it, she'll say "As you helped me to brave the coils, so too will I help you to defeat the Warriors of Darkness." instead of mentioning her journey. I'm not sure what she says if you didn't unlock the raid yet. There are other instances where the coils have been mentioned, but I don't remember which ones I experienced excluding that one.

  10. 51:41 "Thee and thine…" Strange that this particular masked man doesn't lump himself in with the "Warriors of Darkness."
52:56 Your speech pattern, reference to "my teacher"… Is he a Student of Baldesion as well? Perhaps one close to Urianger, once upon a time? Or are they simply cribbing from the same notes?
53:54 All too close to Urianger, it seems.

  11. (36:36) This fight. This shows that the game can go REALLY far with instancing. You que for titan and your experience in the fight is UNIQUE. Everybody else is just having a normal Titan fight, while you…. gesture get THAT.

  12. 8:34 Durmin: /drinktea "Do go on."
23:56 "Let's see how much I can stuff into my relatively tiny pockets." That pile of crystals can't be larger than the multiple corpses Durmin was carrying after the Garleans raided the Waking Sands.
30:12 This quest just tugs at your heartstrings. A strong display of the sacrifices made and innocents harmed in war. I got a bit misty-eyed over Ga Bu here.
34:05 …And then this happens. Go for the eyes, Carby! The eyes!

  13. "To ignore the plight of those one might conceivably save is not wisdom. It is indolence." Another quote from Louisoiux Leveilleur to remember.

  14. Always thought going back to level 50 trial during a level 60 quest was odd, but damn, that new Titan dialogue…..anyway, Alisae! Welcome to the team, for real this time. Her characterization really solidifies on her return and I've loved her ever since.

  15. …oh. I had forgotten that the Ga Bu stuff happens so soon. And just how painful it is. Awesome job reading his lines… I think I need to lie down for a bit now ;_;

  16. For as many fantasy stories as there are that talk about the idea of bringing balance between Light and Dark, I feel like there aren't many that actually go to this point: presenting unchecked Light as being just as much a threat as unchecked Darkness. I kind of wish we knew more about what these primordial, cosmic forces actually represent, though. If there is an optimal balance, it seems unlikely to be 50/50.

  17. Alisaie is wonderful to have back, but oooooo, I'm about to bop Urianger on the snoz. Conspiring with the Ascians and Warriors of Dark, and then dragging Moenbryda into it?! It shan't be allowed to stand!…

Durmin! Kick his ass! (I'd do it myself, but I am weak, and also don't exist in the game world)
