  1. The new thumbnail art is so CUTE!
15:06 Fun Fact- if the player has not completed the Binding Coils of Bahamut raid series by this point, Alisaie will just say "Wait…" It's one of the many examples of how the story dialogue changes depending on what the player has and has not done. If you go to an inn room and look at the Unending Journey, you can rewatch cutscenes and see which ones have the "Reflect Quest Progression", which are the scenes where the dialogue changes.

  2. Smooshing the planets back together would kill literally everyone on them. I doubt that limey of egregiously appalling axe maintenance has given any actual thought to his proposition. More importantly, if he isn't going to look after that adorable axe, someone should take it away from him. Warriors of darkness? pfft, more like nerds of jerkness.

  3. Wonderful new thumbnail art of our favorite Snack Mage of Light!

Durmin (and any Warrior of Light doing this quest)'s drink-related uneasiness is an excellent bit of characterization, considering the challenge on how to give characterization to a mostly-silent protagonist whose details and descriptions are explicitly left up to the player. Speaking of the player, I know I was also extremely nervous during that scene – even before the panning shots of the manservant pouring the drinks.

Welcome back to the main story, best girl! Sorry about the circumstances, though.

Seems like the Warriors of Darkness have added a new member to their crew. But just who is that mysterious masked man?

And there's the lore drop about the Void for anyone who didn't do the Warring Triad quests. The universe of FFXIV officially expands into a multiverse! The Warriors of Darkness hail from the reflection closest to the Source – the first of the thirteen reflections, usually just referred to as The First. The Thirteenth, on the other hand, is the reflection Unulkahai comes from, that we now call the Void.

The way they initially spoke about Alisae's condition, it sounded like she might not make it, and I had to look ahead in the wiki to see whether she would live or die. If she had died, it would have marked the fourth female character, after Moenbryda, Ysale and Minfilia, to have been so inelegantly fridged in such a manner (and I might be forgetting a few others for all I know). Despite how much I've been enjoying this stream and how much I love watching Dan play and narrate, I would have probably stopped watching at that point, simply as a matter of principle. -_-

  5. The first time I got to this dinner scene, I spent the entire time SO TENSE I barely paid attention. I stg, if another head of state was poisoned when I'm the only one in the room………….

  6. ALISAIE 🎉🎉🎉 Her VA and how she is written make her feel like a relatable, real person who just got up from your couch and stepped into the game, especially with some of the dynamics and conversations later in the game. Looking forward to seeing her hang out with Durmin.

  7. I always wondered how they always seem able to temper people despite not having summoned the primal yet.. But maybe minor summonings like with that last boss fight is enough to do so and that's how they do it? :/

  8. First off, Durmin looks dashing in both the new artwork and his date ensemble.

Second off, Primal lores are back (again)! This time it's Garuda. Of course, spoilers abound for this episode below, as well as a minor spoiler to an optional Stormblood dungeon.

"Legend has it that the birdmen of the Ixal once lived on a floating continent known as Ayatlan, where they protected the furthest reaches of the heavens as Garuda's divine soldiers. A time came, however, when the evil that saturated the land below began to reach upwards and infect the skies above. Thence did Garuda order her minions to descend and cleanse the ground of this vile influence, bidding them to remain there as guardians so that the heavens may never again be thus threatened. To this day, the Ixal have dwelled upon the land, dreaming of an end to their sacred duty and a return to their lost paradise in the clouds.

Even as this myth is kept alive within the now-flightless tribe, entries have been discovered in the recording devices of ancient Allag that describe the "iksalion" – a chimeric race that was created on Ayzs Lla to serve in the intriguingly named Garuda Airborne Division. According to these records, the division was led by a female Allagan general, and it was by her order that the iksalion were deployed across the empire to crush a string of uprisings. The commonalities between historical fact and mythical imagine are different to ignore, and are a subject of great interest to scholars who study the beast tribes."

You actually see the iksalion as a mook in one of the optional Heavensward dungeons: The Fractal Continuum in Azys Lla. Stormblood actually follows it up in its optional hardgame dungeon, but that's all i'll say. It's a wonderful piece of continuation and I recommend it for lore nerds.

Also, the Warriors of Darkness bring up an interesting point of information: they're from a shard known as the First, and now it's under threat of a Flood of Light. The Ascians want to help save them, and all the Warriors need to do is cause an Ardor on the Source… but we know at this point that the Ascians ARE backstabbers and schemers, so this seems wrong somehow. Are they lying, or is there a sort of truth to their words?

    Additional Comments;

6:03 – This is the moment where Durmin finds out about Aymeric's birch syrup addiction (since he apparently has one.)

    12:00 – noooo D:

-Alisaie's new VA I prefer. I really do NOT like Alisaie's ARR voice actress, it felt… weird. But this one's better!

  9. Welcome back to the MSQ Playfriends! This is your spoiler free lore comment.

Patch 3.4, "Soul Surrender", was released in September 2016.(This patch brought apartment buildings to the housing wards.)

That squeeing sound you might be hearing are the cries of joy from a significant number of the DTC. They're very excited to have a dinner date with Aymeric. Food and drink have a tendency to be some of the difficult animations and modeling in games, so I see this cutscene being both a cap to the changes that the Heavensward storyline have brought, as well as the animation team flexing their work. And another note: I don't think we ever see the player character ever consume an implied alcoholic drink ever again (Durmin lifts the glass, but does not actually drink from it).

And a new narrator! That's how we know that this is setting up a new story arc. That, and the new story has barged into Durmin's down time. Honestly, the actors for the twins work extremely well together, coming off as siblings, both with their concern for one another and their bickering.

Xelphatol does have a mechanic that annoys me, and that's that adds arrive via balloon at certain points in the dungeon, and it can be easy to miss them until they're swarming the healer. Tanks should aggro them, but if you find yourself being chased by Ixali and your tank hasn't noticed, please run to your tank. By positioning next to them, the tank's AOE skills will automatically pick them up. Running in circles from the enemies will result in the rest of your team having a harder time helping you. Standing with the tank helps the tank help you!

So we finally get some semblance of the Warriors of Darkness' beef with us. Their world is dying, and to save all they know and love, they would doom our world. It would be hard to discount their goal, but they were once heroes of their world. They vanquished the Ascians, and in doing so, doomed themselves. And they do have a point, Unukalhai's world, shown here to be the 13th reflection, fell to darkness. Why couldn't a world fall to light? How far would our heroes go to save our world? Would they initiate a calamity on another world?

    New cast members:
Nigel Pilkington as the unnamed Narrator
    Bethan Walker as Alisaie Leveilleur

James Goode as The Knight of Darkness
Eleanor Matsuura as The Ranger of Darkness

  10. The new thumbnail art is great! I love that you applied it across the series, though admittedly I was watching some of the older videos and had to wonder for a moment if it had always been that way and I hadn't noticed lol.

  11. – oh my goodness Durmin took over the channel & is adorable!
    – well it seems we don't have to worry about Durmin needing Refugee in another city for Regicide, for once
    – oh right Alphanaud missed out the Pirate Adventures, & the whole Triad thing, so yeah he doesn't know about the Void

  12. I wouldn't call the dinner outfit "cute", it gives me a mix of regal an military vibes. Like the alpine coat reminds me of a wool greatcoat (like you see Soviet soldiers wear), just fancied up a little, and topped with a pseudo-Scottish beret. Absolutely love the colour scheme, too.

  13. What's really painful about the dinner scene is how normal it is, yet our boy's experiences of late make this moment of calm and safety into something sinister. You just know if Aymeric was aware of this PTSD trigger, he would likely have done something about it.

Don't worry, Alisaie is tough, she won't let this keep her down!

Now That is some interesting information!
