    When FF 14 came out originally, in what is now called 1.0 it was a disaster … ultimately the company decided to change the Producer and Director of the game and gave it to one Naoki Yoshida or Yoshi-P as he is known …
    Ultimately it was realized that the attempts to fix a fundamentally flawed game would never result in anything than a serviceable game, and the company needed something more, so Yoshi-P convinced them to do something absolutely crazy, to shut down the original game and recreate a new version from scratch under the same name … but the shut down would not be immediate: they would continue fix and support the original version with part of the team while the rest would be working on the new version which needed to be done in around 2,5 Years (conventional wisdom is an MMO needs 5-6 years in development…).

    Whats more the shutdown of the game would be made into an in game in story event and so as the patches with fixes and new bits of story came for the original game. a Red Dot in the sky continued to get bigger and bigger … until it loomed large in the sky and the announcements of the server shut down was made .. and on that day as devs swarmed the world with monsters and the players fought one last time and the timers run out the game went black and this first half of this cinematic played, up until the Old Wizard transports the fighters away.

    and around a year later the game releases as Final Fantasy 14 A Realm Reborn – and the second part of the cinematic where the Wizard fights the Dragon would be added to the game later as part of a Raid Series that is a finale that resolves threats left from the old version and as a gift to the players.

  4. It made me so happy when you mentioned the sound design during this cinematic. You might not have had the context, but your reaction was still a lot of fun to watch.
    FF14 has grown to be the biggest MMO to date and just recently we finished an almost decade-lasting story across the base game and four expansions.
    It would be great to see your reactions to the cinematics of the respective expansions as well!
