  1. The free trial is worth it, it goes all the way to level 60 and includes the whole first expansion (also the game is playable on PS4, and is shared servers with PC, PS4 and PS5) and the upgrade from PS4 to PS5 is free!

  2. It's going to be almost impossible to give any kind of summary. Unlike other mmo's, Final Fantasy XIV is one continuous story. For most other mmo's, each expansion is a self contained story that concludes when you finish said expansion, and they can be done in any order. In XIV, it's all one single continuous story from Realm Reborn, to Heavensward, then Stormblood, then Shadowbringers, and now finally Endwalker.

Endwalker is literally the culmination of everything thats been building since Realm Reborn. Each expansion has continued the story but also added new plot points and twists along the way.. Endwalker is going to be the end of that entire story arc, bringing 10 years of story to a close..

In order to fully grasp this trailer, you'd need to be caught up in the story. I guess a very basic summary of the story in the trailer though is… The world is coming to an end. The apocalypse is happening, and a small group of heroes called the Scions of the Seventh Dawn are trying to do everything within their power to stop the Final Days. All of the characters you see in this trailer are Scions except for the guy sitting in the throne, the robed guy talking to him, and the council in the spiral room in Sharlayan. The 'Knight' (called Paladin in game) is representative of the player character, who is also a Scion.

There's much, much more delicate details and a lot of other plot points, including why the Final Days are even happening, but it would take pages and pages of explanation to form something that someone not familiar with the plot can understand.

I'd say the game is 100% worth it. You can do a free trial that allows you to level most of the jobs up to level 60, and lets you play through realm reborn and the entire first expansion Heavensward FOR FREE, and if you purchase the game on PS4 right now, you'll be able to upgrade to the ps5 version for free. But there's no reason at all to not just try the free trial.

Edit: i'd also like to point out that for final fantasy XIV, you DO NOT need ps+. They didnt want console players to have to pay more than the pc players had to pay, so they made it so ps+ is not required.

  3. The characters are all connected, the heroes of FFXIV's story are known as the Scions of the Seventh Dawn, you can recognize them by the tattoo you pointed out, the player is also a part of this group. The beautiful city is called Sharlayan and historically they have always avoided conflict, they are kinda like Switzerland in our world. Except if Switzerland held a massive amount of knowledge, that many people don't hold. Also the monsters that appear in this are all known as voidsent. I heard you mentioned the dragon was a summon, it's just a very important dragon :p. The summons in this game are known as Primals and they're mainly central to the original Realm Reborn story, although some do appear in other expansions. FFXIV actually takes a lot from other FF games, entire raids are themed around other FF games. There's an FF8 themed raid, an FF12 themed raid, and many bosses and monsters from other FF titles appear in this game. Yoshi P, the director for FF14 (also a producer on FF16) actually said that endwalker is heavily themed around FF4.

  4. Story is pretty easy to summarize. Basically, through the events of the previous expansions the world had been hinted to be coming apart. In Endwalker, it finally will be with all the elements being through out of balance and resulting in massive monster attacks. The main good guys, the Scions of the Seventh Dawn, are the group in which most of the characters shown belong to. Their symbol is the tattoo you mentioned and they are attempting to stop the end of their world. The two characters on the ship had plotted to create the situation you see in the trailer for their own reasons. The man in the council chamber saying he wouldn't get involved in helping represents basically this world's Switzerland, where they focus on preserving knowledge and rebuilding after various calamities over getting involved in stopping them. This isn't the first time the world has been threatened with massive destruction, but most people do not see that this time is different in that rather than ravaging the world it might finally end it. The moon has been hinted at many times as being the key needed to re balancing the world but until recently in the game options for actually reaching it haven't existed.

  5. You don’t need PS Plus to play the game. That subscription is separate to the PS Plus subscription. And it’s free up to Heavensward so you can save your money on the content unless you really want it. But I really recommend against watching this trailer at all unless you have a basic idea of the story in the game. Kind of puts a damper on the experience if you’re against spoilers.
