Final Fantasy XIV is an MMORPG, featuring a persistent world where players can interact with each other and the environment. Players create and customize their characters for use in the game, including name, race, gender, facial features, and starting class. Unlike in the original release, players may only choose to be a Disciple of War or Magic as a starting class—Disciples of the Hand and Land are initially unavailable.[2] Players must also select a game server for each character. While all supported languages are available on every server, data centers are located in specific regions (i.e., North America, Europe, Japan, and Oceania) to reduce latency between client and server, and players are advised to choose a server in their region.[3] Regardless of server or language, players can use a large library of automatically translated game terms and general phrases, allowing players who speak different languages to communicate.[4]

If the slow pace of 2.X gets your or the fam down, have everyone head to Ul'dah and speak to the Well-heeled Youth (X:9.6, Y:9.0). Some good side content to keep things fresh.
Nice. You got ARR done, Dwight can fly, and the patches to start. 🙂 Like emeric said, if it becomes a grind for anyone, take a break. Head to unlock the Golden Saucer, pvp, do some Hildibrand or do some of the blue+ quests. As you get into later patches some of those blue+ quest will be part of unlocking flying. There is just a fun little quest you can do for your magitek armor called 'Magiteknical Difficulties' from Slafborn in Mora Dora.
Your mom said the cast time was long for Red Mage. If she were to cast 'Jolt' (1.87 cast time) first then cast 'Veraero', the 'Veraero' becomes an instant cast. 'Jolt' always results in an instant cast, so you can cast 'Jolt' then cast the RM res as an instant res and start again with 'Jolt'.
So, for casting 'Jolt' is the RM's bff. At 54 RM gets their heal and 64 the res. The aether gage is the RM's bars that get filled with white and black magic as you cast, so that what your mom was talking about the bar. I even still mess up my rotation with RM. Sometimes I forget if I left off on 'Jolt' or if I had just cast one of the other casting spells. If I'm in this long cast…which is nearly 4.7 seconds I know I messed up and will break the cast and cast 'Jolt' and then one of the single target spells.
Bahamut was mentioned and there is a questline, which is the first raid series, you want to do that. You will get a lot of insight. Which you can do in between patches as well. Congrats to you all on completing all of prepatch ARR! Have a fantastic day!
