Final Fantasy XIV did a character design panel at PAX Australia!

Australia’s FFXIV community getting cool stuff for once continues, as Natsuko Ishikawa and Saki Takiyanagi gave a panel on character design! Here’s a hearty summary of everything we learned at a panel that I guarantee NOBODY walking in knew was going to be about this! Please enjoy confirmation that Thancred is a DILF, and the horror of Blonde Hermes.

The full vod can be found at https://www.twitch.tv/videos/2273761398, at least for now; I can never feel confident Twitch vods will stay.

My Ko-Fi’s at https://ko-fi.com/cleretic, and my Discord server’s at https://discord.gg/gB6hJSpj5j! (But commenting here’s still great too)

Questions, suggestions, important things I might have missed? Drop a comment here! You can find me on Twitter at https://twitter.com/Cleretic/, or on Bluesky (I promise I’ll use it sometime) at https://bsky.app/profile/cleretic.bsky.social!

  1. Watched this on stream and it was quite a nice panel (if, as you said, a little different than I expected going in). Love how they pointed out that part of Takayanagi's job is to essentially be the official gposer to recreate scenario's and moments that don't exist in the actual game (like the "ore-ShB" scene of Ali and Tesleen working happily together).
Chat mad me sad (as expected) because there were so many people whining about wanting Emet, Hythlo, Hermes, etc. to somehow be brought back to life as soon as they showed up on screen. just let dead characters be dead, people. Thaankfully they didn't mention Zenos at all…

  2. idk on the surface one can ship those two but Uvlo sees Shunye as an elder, which in my opinion, makes me unconfortable in the reverse " shes just a 900 year old dragon in a small childs body"-kind of way. so in this case physically totally fine but dynamic wise kinda degenerate.

  3. Thanks for uploading, I also don't trust Twitch vods! It's good to see more coverage and conversation around Hermes. Since he didn't make it in the Endwalker Art Books, and had lower coverage than the other Ascians, it felt like he was kind of cut short. I think some characters, both dead and alive, could use more screen time, whether flashback or revival. I personally don't see any issue with wanting to see more of a favorite character. Characters like Emet, Hauchefant, Hythlo, etc have played complete and notable parts in the story, but I think characters like Hermes and Meteion could use some more time for the player to grow with them and understand them. And I don't see reviving a character as bad writing, so long as the means are reasonable and don't serve to undermine the death before them. I'd love to see a bit more of his character in any form as he was one of my favorites. I just can't help but feel that if he had more screen time like Emet, he would be much more understood by the community and liked.

  4. I just can't help but look at Urianger and not hear "Gay or European" from legally blond. I love the two dads, but both of them are just stoic enough, and flirty enough that you can't tell if they are best friends or boyfriends. All you can tell is they certainly know and are giggling over your uncertainty behind your back.
