Did you accidently watch it in 720p lol? game looks incredible with the update.
My random speculation is that the Key (hourglass) activates the circular portal in the City of Gold, allowing a person to step into another dimension or time. The last quote implies that you could possibly reverse a "sacrifice," which makes me think that someone close to us will die, and we'll have to use the Key to bring them back. It reminds me of plot points from Sea of Stars (that's all I'll say on that to not spoil a great game).
July 2nd is the release date, June 28th is when you can play early (only if you preordered).
Believe it or not, there are people who do not preorder, and thus they have to wait until the 2nd of July to actually play the expansion content.
I think the girl is an Ascian, or an ancient. In the art they showed of her during the live letter, if you look at her abdominal area, it appears there is a mask there. Maybe she is referencing sacrifices from the past? Who knows.

Japanese is my native language and it gives few more clues in Japanese trailer. The relic is also being called a "key" in Japanese version. And what makes me wonder is the use of the word "Warriors of LIght". In Japanese, "Hikaruno Senshitachiyo" was written, implying there are multiple Warriors of Light. As it is in English.
I'm not yet caught up with the MSQ but from this trailer and my limited knowledge, I think Krile will surely play a major role which I love. She deserves it. She seems to know a thing or 2 about the " City of Gold".
I think the woman at the end could possibly be Ashe from Dalmasca. Just speculation though.

that was the best reaction of the launch trailer, all the parts that caught my attention caught yours, too! lol amazing, especially the part where the deep voice mentions the people who never age, also the solution 9 futuristic bits.
I'm going to place my bet now. "Could you have held fast to that which is dear… withOUT sacrifice?" is her challenging us to take a different path. Could we do what she was unable to do? Think back to another person, asking a very similar question. "If you could take another step, could you do it? Could you save both our worlds?" I don't know her story, and I suspect it has to a LOT to do with the Genome story of FF9, but she's issuing a challenge with those words. I just know it.
