  1. Since it's confirmed that we're not gonna do his boss fight, let's go over Odin now.

Odin is a mysterious primal. Known as the Dark Divinity, it is said that he was named after a demonic villain, having done numerous dark deeds, including an event where he cut down Lady Urth. Some also call him a valiant hero who fought against tyranny. Either way, he is said to still be wandering the Shroud as if possessed, killing those who dare approach him. However, things get odd, as Odin himself is not the primal. Instead, it's his blade Zantetsuken.

The blade also has history, being a weapon of legend used against the Allagan empire. If an unlucky soul defeats Odin and takes his blade, they are "sundered" and become Odin's new body, thus perpetuating the cycle. This is notable in his FATE "Steel Reign", as if you are above level 56 and happen to chance on him during Tension, you will see him unhelmeted… to reveal the face of the person who dealt the killing blow on him during the last FATE, implying that they too have taken the blade as a prize, only to fall prey to Zantetsuken's tempering.

Odin's trial is Urth's Fount, which is notably another strange one. It is not categorized as an Extreme, but it is recommended for players to form a Party Finder and only shows up in Mentor Roulette (though my only experience was in Duty Finder on Free Trial, and it wasn't too bad.) It is the easiest EX actually, teaching players as to what can be expected in high-level content, though it's also lenient and allows more room for mistakes. His hard enrage is Shin-Zantetsuken, where if you fail to get him from about 15% HP down to 0, he will wipe the party (this is also in his FATE, and it is very inescapable unless you burn his HP down.)

Poor Wilred. He was so young and spirited, he did not deserve to die, yet he did. It seems things are ramping up in story as well, and not in a good way. I only hope Durmin all the best.

  2. Durmin looks so good in his party outfit!! Kudos to the secret admirer on their choices for him!

And man, very excited for Wednesday. I'm still so sad about Wilred, the poor boy didn't deserve that…

  3. your voice acting fun fact of the day is:
Nanamo has had three known English voice actresses throughout all of Final Fantasy XIV (discounting 1.0 of course):
    – Haley Alexander for 2.0; a virtually unknown voice actress (and in fact, I wouldn’t be surprised if that’s just an alias).
    – Erin Fitzgerald for 2.2 up to 2.55; a fairly well-known voice actress from Canada, known for her roles in video games and anime, including Chie Satonaka from Persona, Junko Enoshima from Danganronpa and Kodachi Kuno from Ranma ½.
    – Joanna Ruiz from 3.0 onwards; a prominent voice actress from the UK, known for her roles on British cartoon shows and occasionally video games too. She voiced Espella Cantabella in Professor Layton vs. Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney, and Teelan in Xenoblade Chronicles. And in Final Fantasy XIV she will also be the voice of Garuda moving forward as well as a certain Kobold character.

  4. When I was playing through that questline with the scholar I used Dragonfire Dive-which makes a big booming sound- while fighting the first wave of enemies. So when the scholar was like "could you be a little quieter next time?" instead of being annoyed I was just like, "yeah, that's fair."

  5. So, not to knock the wardrobe you picked Dan, but I prefer taking a more… how to put it… "Mandalorian" approach? Yes, it's my "work armor", but you never know when trouble will show up. I mean, you get the worst of the debris off, maybe a fresh coat of paint.

Also, boy.. Thancred really is the bard stereotype, eh? Up to "what did you do, to whom?"

  6. "Not really dressed for the desert right now. Um, that's fine. Here, maybe I'll lose the hat."

No, Durmin! Head covering is important in the desert, you'll get sun stroke!

  7. Dan: "'Hmm, you chose to paddle around in the icker a while longer.' Or eye-core. I never know how to say that word."
Me: "You received a tutorial on it from a giant fruit-fish in Shovel Knight. Also, the second syllable of 'anomalous' sounds just like it's spelled: 'nom nom nom.'"

  8. I have exactly zero familiarity with this story beyond what I’ve seen here, and am not one to engage in speculation, but as an engineer I can’t help but look at a party like the one they’re planning to throw and think of one term in particular:

    “Single point of failure.”

  9. CHRONICALS OF THE REALM

    Ep 055

The story of Eorzea is a grand and sprawling narrative. One that, unfortunately, belies a simple telling broken up over months of individual sessions – including necessary if tragic breaks. In the interest of helping viewers remember the characters and terminology they have seen before I have taken the liberty of creating a pronoun glossary of sorts of Durmin's adventures.

A few notes before we get started (this text will be the same in every episode, so feel free to skip it in future episodes). First: And most importantly, this glossary is COMPLETELY SPOILER SAFE. I have manually built each entry from the episodes that preceded it; although I have played most of the game, I have taken every effort to just copy information from these videos. Second: This is not a story recap, most of the story will not appear here. This is just a glossary of terms. Finally: This little project turned out to be significantly more exhausting that I anticipated and while I am happy to continue, I will make mistakes. There may be missing information in these records, and I welcome any additions provided they can timestamp the text where the information came from. I also shift in and out of various tones as I get more and less tired, so please forgive these inconsistencies, I plan to slowly unify the tone over time now that 2.0 is complete.

I'll also be including fun facts about the glossary at the end of each expansion.

  10. Episode spoilers:

Let's see, we've got a guy murdered, someone's cooking the books, a mysterious meeting and vial, and most importantly, Yda doesn't know whether to eat or dance first. This is assuredly going to end badly.

So excited for the next episode in which we will have a very normal party in which nothing of note happens!

Also just a small thing but as a DTC member it's always a pleasure whenever one of the crew shows up in an episode ☺️

  12. Man, waiting for next episode is reminding me of watching people seeing GoT for the first time on TV, when I had read the books and knew what's to come. So excited for everyone who hasn't experienced this story from here out!

  13. You were right the first time on ichor Dan – it's with a short i, like ick-or. Oh and the blasphemous air that the scholar talks about around 7:30? That's because he's taking a reading right next to the entry to Amdapor.

  14. I'm so scared for tomorrow. I know what's coming. I'm not sure if I'm ready. But I haven't been the last two times, so.

Best of luck, and I hope this continues for a /very/ long time.

  15. It's so cool that you have so much interaction throughout ARR patch content with all the folks you recruited to the Braves.

    Especially knowing what's to come.

  16. Daaamn, I love the hat. Loving all the glams in this series. A little bonus episode where you just go over the various pieces so those of us who play can hunt them out would be neat. And I'm very excited for tomorrow's episode.
