  1. I have such a strong headcanon for this scene in the Intercessory that, although my WoL is pretty reserved and good at keeping her composure, she could not help but wince a couple of times at Alphinaud. 😀 Gosh I love this small elf's character arc.

  2. Ahh Aymeric. Any time he's in a voice acted scene I'm happy. That man has a voice like butter.

This part introduces two important concepts for Heavensward:
    1) It is possible for someone to "lay down with dragons" 😉
    2) Hot Elf Boys™

  3. Anyone thinking that Lord Aymeric sounds familiar probably recognizes him from the Dark Souls 3 playthroughts in which he portrayed Hawkwood. Quite different roles, but he's got a particular timbre to his voice that is really unique.

  4. And here we begin to see who is the real hero of the game: Tataru. She is a one Lalafell accounting department, HR department, catering, receptionist, dispatcher, and record keeper. This lady has so many jobs that the only explanation is that she is a time wizard

  5. CHRONICALS OF THE REALM

    Ep 047

The story of Eorzea is a grand and sprawling narrative. One that, unfortunately, belies a simple telling broken up over months of individual sessions – including necessary if tragic breaks. In the interest of helping viewers remember the characters and terminology they have seen before I have taken the liberty of creating a pronoun glossary of sorts of Durmin's adventures.

A few notes before we get started (this text will be the same in every episode, so feel free to skip it in future episodes). First: And most importantly, this glossary is COMPLETELY SPOILER SAFE. I have manually built each entry from the episodes that preceded it; although I have played most of the game, I have taken every effort to just copy information from these videos. Second: This is not a story recap, most of the story will not appear here. This is just a glossary of terms. Finally: This little project turned out to be significantly more exhausting that I anticipated and while I am happy to continue, I will make mistakes. There may be missing information in these records, and I welcome any additions provided they can timestamp the text where the information came from. I also shift in and out of various tones as I get more and less tired, so please forgive these inconsistencies, I plan to slowly unify the tone over time now that 2.0 is complete.

I'll also be including fun facts about the glossary at the end of each expansion.

  6. AYMERIC!! Oh man, coming off the heels of having finished the upcoming expansion, it's interesting to revisit our introduction to him as a character, hehe. I have… theories… about the way he chooses to handle this situation, but I will refrain from sharing that speculation here. Don't want to allude to specific character development directions, lest I spoil things for the people watching who are seeing all of this for the first time.

  7. Durmin's back with patch 2.4, and we're going to Ishgard! Well, not Ishgard, but Coerthas. It's an important step.
And, to quote one of the directors at the Dantalus Theater Company: "Today's spoiler-free lore comment is about all the directors who have their WoLs date Aymeric"

8:55 – For veteran players, this line is hilarious. We will later learn that Y'shtola is well acquainted with a land where the idea of nutrition over flavor has gone so overboard that many shudder at the thought of consuming their cuisine.

9:10 – If it wasn't obvious, Thancred is talking about the gathering of F'lhaminn, Y'shtola, and Higiri.

Politics! This discussion of politics may be boring to some, but it's important to explain the situation in Ishgard, and the outlook of the Ishgardian state. There are a handful of important bits here that everyone should take notice of.

39:45 – This isn't the mention of Astrologians, but it reminds players that the Observitorium in southern Coerthas is for stargazing, and that Ishgard uses this information for portents. Usually portents regarding dragon activity. This reminder is another preview of a coming bit of gameplay: the Astrologian healing job!

The fact that Silvertear Lake is in the Scions' new backyard makes it convenient for them to keep an eye on the location. The deal is pretty fair: inform Ishgard of any unusual activity in Mor Dhona, and in exchange the supplies continue. Well, they continue as long as Dravanian heretics don't raid them.

Okay, time to talk about this episode's title character. Ser Aymeric de Borel is a The Lord Commander of Ishgard's Temple Knights. Ordinarily, I would emphasize that the Temple Knights answer to the church rather than the state, but in Ishgard, both are one in the same. In this case, the Temple Knights represent the core of the Holy See's military, but many a knightly order supplement it. His voice actor, Blake Ritson, should sound familiar to Playfriends who are Side Quest aficionados. He is a repeat actor in the Dark Souls series, as Griggs of Vinheim, Royal Sorcerer Navlaan, and Hawkwood the Deserter. Hawkwood in particular sounds a lot like "worst timeline Aymeric". For those who haven't been delving into FromSoft's works, you might recognize him as Brainiac in Krypton, or The Duke of Kent in Upstairs/Downstairs. As you can guess from the reaction of the DTC's leadership, Aymeric is very popular.

Blake Ritson is one of the first of the voice actors from the new London cast. This is a bit odd, because his adjutant is voiced by Tara Platt in this scene, and not a new London actress, even though this is her first appearance. It may be that the taciturn knight wasn't considered an important character at the time.

Welp, it looks like Durmin's going to be spending some more time in Coerthas! I hope he packed JoCat's parka.

  8. man, i remember when i first went though this my characters name was "Ivy Chibi" (i've changed it a few times since), and there were definitely a few times where I was only like half paying attention and thought they were talking about me

  9. Fun fact: with very few exceptions, the new voiced characters in this patch like Aymeric (and also Haurchefant in the last patch as he wasn't voiced in ARR before) are done by their new London-based VAs so they will not change when Heavensward hits. So this is how the voice acting is going to be like going forward.
This may be a comfort to those more familiar with British accents!
