Final Fantasy 14 – The Free Trial "MMO" I Always Wanted

“Have you heard of the critically acclaimed MMORPG Final Fantasy XIV? With an expanded free trial which you can play through the entirety of A Realm Reborn and the award-winning Heavensward expansion up to level 60 for free with no restrictions on playtime?”

I never thought I would love FFXIV this much… I’m no longer addicted to World of Warcraft but through my journey of trying other MMOs, Final Fantasy 14 sticks out as one of my favorites. Is it my go-to game for 2023? You’ll have to watch and find out.

You can join in the fun of watching me continue this playthrough series over on my twitch.

  1. The story is all downhill from this point on, then a vertical loop, then up hill, then a helix, a barrel roll, a cut back, a top hat, zero g roll, heart line roll, interlocking corkscrews and a bunny hop into the station. A Realm Reborn is a lift hill for one of the greastest emotional roller coasters ever made.

  2. I will say that we start as just an Adventurer, we're named the Warrior of Light by the leaders of the City-States after the heroes who fought at the Battle of Carteneu who's faces were forgotten (the 1.0 players), if you were a 1.0 legacy player at the end of 2.0 you get remembered by the leaders

  3. It's been almost two years since I started playing FFXIV and till this day I feel the same love for it. Granted at the end when you wait for the new patches things can get a bit dull but that's when I catch up on things that I neglected (lvling, crafting, beast tribes). I LOVE this game and I'm happy you do to. I hope your journey will be pleasant and full of excitement and action.

  4. Have enjoyed your journey! There's a huge audience for people who love watching others go through the content for the first time. The only thing I would say as you go forward and get closer to EW is to consider how you'll cover the game after the story is done if you want to continue when you finish. Deep dives into lore? Hardcore raiding? Glam? Crafting? PVP? Would suggest making vids of things you enjoy to build an audience for before the story is done.

  5. I adore every sprout that thinks ARR is such a good story. – It is a good story.

    A good, serviceable story.

The slowness is mostly because it is setting up the world.

Now you're in Heaven's Ward? Go play. Learn more, enjoy.

I can't wait to see the retrospective when you have the entire journey to look back on from the vantage point of end game. 🙂

So, for me, I got hooked at each Trial. Ifrit is really when you start coming into your own in the world. You get your Grand Company Chocobo after that event and the world really opens up. You are no longer "just an adventurer" picking up coins and learning to dance from random female miqotes.

  6. I feel like I want to point out that Minfilia's not a fighter xD. Being a leader doesn't mean you're physically strong. Having the echo doesn't mean your magic is top notch. Minfilia's strength is in the administrative/organisational, and in her connection to Hydaelyn (and to people).
I do wish Moenbryda had stuck around longer though as well. Loved how cheerful she was. xD
    Congrats on reaching Heavensward!

  7. Moenbryda didnt have the Echo. She was a scholar and almost without peers in her field of research. And she also liked proper hands-to-hands combat, which is unusual, even though many scholars know how to fight (usually with magic).

As for Minfilia… from what I know, most of her story and character arc was told in 1.0, hence why new players (everyone who started with ARR onwards) dont really know her or why she's supposedd to be special. Her impact in peoples lifes is thankfully elaborated upon later, so, for the moment, lets just say: she had had her trials, and her position as a leader was earned by actions not given due to some weird power.

5:12 — Correct, it doesnt. Most of us (for whom gaming/streaming isnt a job) have to make a choice and either stick with it or seek something else. FF14 isnt perfect, but for many people its the best compared to the rest, or just enjoyable enough to not seek out something else. And I think thats the case for most MMOs: you feel "at home", and unless something impactful happens that alienates you, you stick with it, "come hells or high water" 😀
