  1. Regarding crit and direct hit: Your chat got most of it right – direct hit is a weaker crit that has a much higher chance to proc, while crit is much stronger while having a lower chance. From what I recall this was SE copying a stat WoW had in warlords of draenor called multistrike which functioned somewhat similarly. Direct hit was only added during stormblood, and during heavensward there were 2 stats that got changed (in stormblood) – accuracy – which became direct hit, and parry, which became tenacity. Parry functioned similarly to most rpgs in that the higher you got the higher the chance it would reduce damage via a parry. Most tanks complained about how useless it was so it got changed to tenacity, which is essentially a shitter determination stat that reduces the amount of damage you take while slightly increasing the damage done and healing received – except since you require huge amounts of that stat to actually even make a difference, most tanks ended up avoiding that stat. Accuracy was removed mainly because this game is very dps centric, and healers DO NOT have accuracy on their gear (as I recall they actually had to add small amounts of the accuracy stat on healer gear as well as grandfather that stat into old gear during this era because of all the complaints), which means everytime they get a new piece of gear they had to meld accuracy to ensure that they had a 100% hit rate (or close enough to that) so their dps spells won't miss (it has no effect on healing spells). It also removed annoyances with dps/tanks having to make sure they are at the accuracy cap every time they get a new piece of gear, and that they do not overcap the stat since excess accuracy is useless.

As for direct hit in the current era, it cannot be found on tank or healer gear, which is why some tanks and healers meld it via materia to increase damage (healing spells cannot direct hit as well). The problem is the crit stat in this game is equivalent to GW2 precision and ferocity merged into one stat – when you increase it you are not just increasing your crit rate, but also your crit damage (it also affects healing spells). It means, especially towards middle/end of an expansion crit becomes vastly superior to all other secondary stats and everyone just maxes out crit if possible.

As for black mage having lucid, it actually used to halve your aggro when you pressed it. That effect got removed in shadowbringers when SE decided to make it trivial for tanks to hold aggro.

I tunned out most of the story bits in this vod because this bit of the story bored me back then, so I'm not sure if I missed anything that needed explaining.

  2. That trial boss you did, Sepirot, had a drama regarding it's phase 2 (when it becomes gigantic) theme song. I was surprised your chat did not mention it. It apparently resembled a song by a band called Powerman 5000 who had a song, "when worlds collide" that sounded very similar to it, and the lead singer was apparently made aware of it and called out SE for ripping it off. Yoshida claimed it wasn't and it was simply another tune in that genre, and soken (FF14's primary composer) claims to have never heard of it. I certainly haven't hard of that song until that incident, at any rate.

  3. WP i would point out at around 2:15:40~ when you are asking if this patch is one and done, you were sort of neglecting the scope of ffxiv's vertical progression. You are in overpowered gear. Everyone you are partying with is in incredibly op gear. You dont have to care about dungeon gear drops now, but they are relevant when theyre released and a great reason to rerun new dungeons. Dungeons and daily roulettes tying back to the tombstone gear progression (which you have essentially skipped to best available with Shire – which was introduced in 3.4.) Most fights you've been skipping mechanics that actually drag out and have impact and players have to figure out because they dont know them yet. Your health, dps and heals are much more balanced for these things to be more engaging. You cant get carried as easily by other players when it's new. Bosses don't die incredibly quickly like you've experienced at release because you and your party are not insanely powercrept by like 2 more expansions+. Alexander would have taken you a lot longer. Much much longer. If you could have even cleared it day 1. Getting your gear up to higher ilvl outside of alexander would have been possible by running the latest dungeons/trials and beast tribe quests and would have been time consuming. Crafters and Gathers could also progress their gear at this time. As chat hinted at, legendary gear progression began here. you could get at the time very unique and cool weapon skins and mount drops from thordan ex. you can get locked out of story progression if you dont keep your gear up to date in contemporary patches. but youve overlooked a lot of things that this patch has to offer in this comparison between gw2 and ffxiv because youre not engaged with the vertical progression side of the game

  4. Obviously there’s more to this story yet to come and the Crystal has reasons for what she’s doing, but this story beat around 1:50:00 really bothered me. I really liked Minfilia in ARR, she felt like my WoL’s only real friend in the scions, and we were perfectly able to escape from Ul’dah together until Hydaelin called her back. So my impression is that Hydaelin murdered my dear friend, hid it from me until I personally came knocking, and then wore her corpse as a suit for added insult.

  5. 3:22:50 This fight used to be a bit of a challenge back when it was first released. The DPS check was a tad high for anyone without good gear. It's kind of funny seeing it walked all over here.

  6. 4:52:10 The entire idea of there being a reputation behind certain character races always came off as a bad meme that got repeated ad nauseam. People pick similar choices in the character creator a lot of times because they are generally just the better ones given the limited options. If your entire goal was to create the most unique looking character in terms of what others created, then you'd more than likely just be trying to make a really ugly boring looking character.

  7. 2:47:00 I'm holding my breath, thinking almost out loud to myself: "don't say it WP, don't say: "well I geuss Final fantasy leads on Guild wars in that department as well"…" I had a chuckle and then an inrtospective moment what a dark pos I can be sometimes. absolutely tragic stories…
