Final Fantasy 14 Has RUINED World Of Warcraft For Me…

I never thought I would love FFXIV this much… I’m not longer addicted to World of Warcraft but through my journey of trying other MMOs, Final Fantasy 14 sticks out as one of my favorites so far.

You can join in the fun watching me continue this playthrough series over on my twitch.

Final Fantasy 14 Reminds Me Of When I First Tried WoW because of the quaint little towns at the beginning of both games. The warm sense of Goldshire when first created my Human Warrior back in 2006. The music of the human starting area and the screeches of the kobolds. Final Fantasy 14 gave me a similar vibe with the music, lush forests, and the quaint little town. The NPCs were very well made, and the graphics compared to some of today’s popular RPG titles. FF14 reminds me more of an RPG than an MMORPG, and so far is delivering on all fronts as a great game I want to return to.

I’ve played WoW since 2006, 2 months before The Burning Crusade came out. In this video, I go over why FFXIV ruined WOW For me.

  1. As a WoW refugee, I think WoW is the one that ruined itself. Lore and storytelling that grown more rediculous and not solve the questions as each patch goes, gears grinding that in high-end you need to farm M+ hours after hours and no sight of your BiS to drop, all these grining gear to play Raid that have no bad luck protection. Great Vault did not change anything. Crafting system is also trash even the new sys that they going to use is the same one just recolour, except the commission board is a good one.
Time-gating is also very bad like why timegating the story. It force us to invest more time to the game. Sure, we can invest more time to the game but the reward is so bad like you grinding super hard to get an achievement mount the there is a store mount with the same model but prettier.

  2. Telling us something we don't already know about ff14. You should have left garbage WoW a long time ago. Playing Wow for 11 years and then trying this game out, I knew the first day this was my new home.

  3. Typical streamer. Jumping on the bandwagon. For views…. "I switched to FF14 because?!?". Because everyone else is. Soon it'll die out and WOW will be popular again and everyone will be like "I went back to wow because!?!". 🙄🙄🙄

  4. I know you made alts for different things starting out, but I'm curious to see if you don't become attached to a "Main" :3 I tend to bring my alts out for holiday/seasonal events and when I want to redo the story casually – though I can literally do "New Game +" to re-experience it on my main. I think it's also fun seeing how everything opens up over time – Mounts, flying, activities like the Gold Saucer etc

  5. The way I describe it: FF 14 is the perfect detox from WoW. The more you progress into the MSQ and enjoy all the niceties like easy alts (jobs), straightforward gearing progression, dailies that don't feel as mandatory, etc it makes you less and less interested in the tedium associated with modern WoW.

  6. Trusts converted me after over a decade of on and off activity dating back to Vanilla in WoW. Like I love dungeons, but I don't play them like everyone else, and trusts and now duty support let me play alts and own their time, without the interdependence of needing the community to run dungeons. I could never go back to WoW unless they copied and improved upon this system. "AI dungeon groups" are a bare minimum for any MMORPG I could get into on my schedule, and I don't see anyone doing them as well as FFXIV!

  7. Wasn't this guy a GW2 andy? So bored of these videos, more so of people gloating and sourcing their validation on the basis of crumbling competitors.

  8. I had an aversion to mmo’s because I’m very shy/introverted. I don’t do well with strangers. FFXIV is the 2nd mmo I ever played with the first being dc universe online. Since then I have tried others but none could hold my interest for more than a few months except for FFXIV. I have now been playing since 2014 and I still log on almost daily. It’s one of my favorite games of all time. Welcome to eorzea and I hope you enjoy your time here.

  9. Its funny: in WoW, the race defines your culture and traditions. If you play an orc, you ARE an orc, if you play a Night Elf, you ARE a Night Elf. In GW2 its the same: your race defines you culture – and its really, REALLY irritating at points that your characters responses are identical no matter if you are a charr (big lion people) or an Asura (big eared science gnomes). In FF14 its the place you live in that defines you. A hyur in Uldah is not comparable to a hyur in Gridania, or Kugane. Race is completely irrelevant (unless you're garlean…). There is specific lore for every race, yes, each individual adapts to where he lives. Personally, I like this way more: In an MMO, as soon as you have a story involved, it's difficult to write something that fits everyone. In a way, all our Warriors of Light are the same: we are adventurers, we are curious, we throw ourselves against any challenge, we dont care about a persons background only about his deeds now, we are helpful to a fault… All very vague traits, but in many other games with defined lines between races… its getting hard to find this mix of traits in every race depicted – even considering those many outlyers. … Dont know if I explained this well enough, but race being tied to culture in games had always kinda bothered me ^^°

  10. The biggest fallacy is that WoW does not have main story progression. It does and in the past it was quite good. It is only since the introduction of M+ that this has changed. It is very disappointing to say the least.

  11. I just wish I hadn't wasted 15 years on wow. I've always said WotLK is my best gaming experience. Now it's Heavensward. (haven't gotten further yet) I am so amazed by this game, its story and its characters that it's amusing.

  12. My fav things is going to the room before meeting Minfilia to visiting the rest of the crew! After finishing some quest you can find them chatting with each other in different spots. Doing squat competitions, making friends, trying juggling, sharpening knives etc. I never did this before but for them to do it in an MMO I just had to stop to appreciate the effort.

  13. I remember in WoD when the NPC's in Warspear knew I was the "commander." I thought that was fucking amazing (at the time). It doesn't really go anywhere (people barely remember after WoD), but just that level of acknowledgement was amazing (for WoW).

Then I played FFXIV, and realized how incredibly lame that is compared to a game that tells its story masterfully.

In FFXIV, not only would important AND random people know you're the WoL, entire cutscenes would be different based on the content you did in the game. That raid series you did back in Heavensward? Oh yeah, that factors in later if you did it, and some of those NPC's may even make appearances even as far out as Endwalker.

Nobody does story as well as FFXIV. It's really not close.

  14. For me,14 has beaten WoW. It captures what mmorpg is supposed to be. With respecting your time.

What really like about 14 is that it's very friendly on your character. Gearing is easy, you can play multiple jobs, level your professions, etc.

Is ffxiv perfect, no. But it's damn great.

  16. WoW ruined WoW for me, and FFXIV isn't quite so GW2-casual as some might take away from the video. The current rush to grind better gear and beat the new savage raids is as hardcore as mythic raiding in WoW. In the end, you're still probably raiding or collecting glamours and mounts, though there are some other casual things to do at endgame. But as you say, it's mostly having a coherent well-written story that sets the game apart and has made it fun for me. Having the endgame gated behind the story means that even the most hardcore players enjoy the story, which gets a lot better as you go through the expansions. And it's an awfully nice community, due to being well-moderated in part, but just the attitude in general is so friendly. When I first logged in, someone gave me several gifts and offered to help me out with anything. While you have that sprout icon next to your head, currently for 80-some levels, people are doubly helpful.

And what you'd think was mild saltiness in WoW would be a ban in FFXIV, so that doing random dungeons or normal raids is a much more pleasant experience. If you tell people you're doing something for the first time and apologize in advance for the cutscene delay and your probable death, the response is "no worries", maybe some tips about mechanics, and probably a smooth run and a good learning experience. The general encounter design is having a boss show you various mechanics, then start combining 2 of them at once, then 3, and it's nice knowing that nobody's going to call you an idiot if you mess up the hard parts while learning. As a congenital fire-stander with some latency issues, I find this really relaxing and it makes me comfortable learning a new raid or dungeon.
