I think some are under the impression I disliked the video, which is just wildly untrue. I found it very impressive that he was able to put so much detail within a short time frame. The issue I have is the the concept of that itself, not his execution of it. I personally think, if the summary was longer he could have included even more details without having to rush to cram it all within 23 minutes. I personally struggle to retain info if its given to me extremely fast, that's not a problem with the video. I reacted to this in a way that would ensure I'd retain as much as I could. Pausing, rewinding, stopping when necessary. If people don't like that? That's okay.
Hey man stumbled on your reaction to all the cinematics, and really enjoying seeing you react to all this and take it in. I'd say WoW is definitely worth checking out, I've played since the beginning and no matter how many times I've left thinking I never come back, I always come back for more. It has its flaws but things have definitely been getting better since Dragonflight and the next 3 expansions on the horizon look to be great. They are planning that the next 3 expansions will all be one big overarching story, and I believe the first one should come out later in 2024.
One problem though with WoW is you aren't going to really play through the story to level up. You will start off in a starting zone (1-10) and then go to either Warlords of Draenor or Battle for Azeroth expansion to level from (11-60), and then 60-70 is in the current Dragonflight expansion. I wish they would make it to where you get the story through leveling but I guess the problem here is it would take a long time to level through almost 20yrs of content. The game is in a good place now and the future is looking bright so I'd say if you're in, then getting in with Dragonflight should be a good way to go and then you'll be ready for this next epic 3 part expansion going forward. Hope you try it out and I'll be checking you out on Twitch if you do, I already gave you a follow!
Play WoW Classic. Get the original 1-60 experience. There's also a lot of lore that sets the stage for the rest. Don't play retail WoW immediately. I'm curious: What faction will you choose first? Alliance or Horde?
Arthas choice to exterminate the entire city may not have been a nice one but at the time it was 100% the correct thing to do. There was no cure so thats out of the question, also so long as they were still human they were all mostly civilians with no combat training of any kind so killing them was easy. However hade he waited those civilians would have turned into undead fighters that would for sure have been ALOT harder to kill and likly killed parts of hes own forces aswell. Not only that, this was a very big capital size city and not some small town they could have quarantined, Arthas forces would have stood no chans of trying to hold back the undead assault once the city started to turn.
Putting the work in to understand goes a long way. Well done.
There were some inaccuracies in this video, and some things the movie did differently than the game lore did. Garona in particular has been innocent in both game and movie, but in the game she was mind controlled, in the movie the king asked her to kill him to end the war and she does so tearfully.
Also, this video completely glosses over Suramar and the Nightborn Elves.
In Shadowlands, you don't need to kill yourself to get there, we got into the afterlife while alive because the sky was broken open.
Video : history of WoW in 23 minutes;
Reaction: 43 minutes
Me : seems a few hours short
I recommend the Warcraft Lore Recap playlist by Lawllin. So far his lore recap playlist are summed up from warcraft 1 to World of Warcraft: Battle for Azeroth
So, Warcraft 1 didn’t kick in until the opening of the dark portal. The rest was all pre-games history, though a lot of it wasn't known until much later. So, the info is newer, even if what happened was thousands of years ago.
Nobel87 is THE lore guy. Every expansion he is on top of all lore in game and has several videos of the lore because the game has a TON per expansion
New fan here. Loving your WoW stuff. Keep up the good commentary and not just silently watching like others do.
EDIT: Just wanted to say it's not your fault man. The video is fast. It would be hard for someone completely new to digest that. WoW's lore has a lot of detail. I posted a comment on your other video. If you really want to get into the weeds of warcraft lore? As I said, check out the war of the ancients trilogy. That pretty much covers history of WoW from 10,000 years ago. That includes stuff like the sundering, the fall of Suramar and the highborne, the demonic invasion, the relationship between Malfurion, Tyrande and Illidan.
Warcraft 3 is really the lynchpin for modern World of Warcraft. Most of the stuff in the cinematics you watched with Sylvanas, Uther, Arthas, Thrall was set up in WCIII. WCI's events covers the orcs first invasion into Azeroth from Draenor. The 2nd game chronicles the 2nd invasion. It's worth noting the orcs were corrupted by the fel and Guldan. (This is referenced in the Warlords of Draenor cinematic where Grom Hellscream rejects the blood of Mannoroth.). Warcraft 3 is of course the 3rd war and sets up the foundation for vanilla wow. You get the kind of origin of the blood elves, the battle for hyjal, etc.
Warcraft 1 and 2 can be bought on GOG if you are interested. I again recommend the Warcraft Chronicle books as they are pretty comprehensive even going into the cosmology of WoW. Also again recommend the Warcraft movie (essentially the story of WC1 albeit with some changes here or there). But I also realize not everyone wants to read a book and prefers a video.
I've seen someone suggest Nobbel. I would second that. He does great lore videos. I feel they may be a bit easier to digest too.
Nobbel87 is amazing at telling world of warcraft lore! Highly recommend watching him.
Nobel87 is the guy you want for the lore, specially if youre totally new to WoW. He is a great narrator/storyteller too
13:10 That mage woman is called Aegwynn. The mage you saw in the long cinematic video is Jaina Proudmoore. They are not related, and definitely not the same person.
bro if you are serious hit me up bro i been on this joint since 2015 and you get to play with a big bro..so yea hit me up
If you want this presented as a bed time story next to a crackling fire, read by a velvet voiced Dutchman, Nobbel87 is your guy.
Jesus fucking christ, the guy talks so fast that that video is impossible to watch even though I already know most of that stuff. Ffs, how is someone that's new to the warcraft lore supposed to keep up?
The worst thing about WoW is that each expansion makes the previous content irrelevant. When it comes to the story, its not the same as FF14 where you can go through the game and do everything in proper order,
in wow ofc there is warcraft 1, 2, and 3 plus theres books as well, so going through WoW the story is extremely convoluted.
it would be cool if you played Warcraft 3 since that goes into more details of the burning legion and Arthas turning into the lich king.
When a video is too fast or too slow, I just manipulate it with the playback button. But this way, it makes better content, lol.
Damn I feel sorry for you. You got the A.I vid. There are other better story tellers out there.
love that youre doing this but yeah this video is NOT for you lol
it's very distilled and tongue-in-cheek on purpose which really does not lend to introducing someone to the lore of a franchise this big
i hope you find other creators that are more in-depth and willing to take the time to properly explain things.
I honestly hate the retcon they did from the books for the war of the ancients, It was originally called the demon soul but they renamed it to dragon soul in cataclysm
I highly recommend watching Nobbel87
Man. You really need to watch Everything you need to know about dragons by Platinum WoW. Dragons are a very important part of this universe (more than you imagine) and the best thing is that video wouldn't be nearly as chaotic and difficult to grasp as this one. You'll enjoy it and actually learn more I promise 🙂
If you want in depth and something relaxing Nobbel87 is where you want to go. He doesn't make videos like this that feel more like bullet points than a story. Nobbel does some of the best work in WoW lore imho. You feel entertained and informed while watching them. Like when you had a nice fun teacher in school.
Should play the game and post it here
cant correct all the minor wrongs in that video, but i can say that orcs turned green not because of drinking blood, not all of them drank the blood, mostly the leaders an so on did.
they turned green, due too constant exposure too fel magic, going through the portal from Draenor to go into azeroth is what made them permanently green.
we can kill the old gods bodies but they come back eventually, we always kill the old gods only with help of titan keepers, dragons or just the planet itself.
29:17 Actually Warcraft 1 doesn't come into the picture until the 17:00 mark in this video. Everything before that has been novels or flashback/time travel scenes in WoW.
Bro, i am so impressed by your diligence to understand the lore of the game youre wanting to dive into. I've played WoW for over 15 years and I am so hyped to see your journey into its storytelling. In the recent years it has gotten a bit muddled, but its such a rich and diverse world full of unique and pronounced characters. I hope you have a blast discovering the story and the character arcs, and cant wait to watch. Much love to you
