  1. As a seasoned IT consultant, many companies' so-called 'experts' mistakenly (or ignorantly) use UDP, TCP, and many other standard terms all the time. My personal pet peeve is when people try to use bits and bytes interchangeably. They are not the same. MB/sec vs Mb/sec are not equal metrics.

  2. Okay so I'm not a network specialist so I may be incorrectly attributing my issues with network but I could list a few things that have negatively impacted my gameplay experience of FF XIV.

Im a PS5/console player and I live and play FFXIV on EU Light DC from Bangladesh in South Asia. I usually play around 9pm local time till around 4 or 5am depending on the day in the week (its +6hrs GMT here so that means I'm on between 3pm-11pm server time). Given the time that I play and my choice to play the game with other English speaking players, I prefer to play on EU servers where my ping (referencing the stats from other fps games) is anywhere between 150ms to 200ms depending on whether the server is on mainland Europe or in the UK. This means that I've only ever played FF XIV with a poor network status which is shown on your character login. Ideally I should be playing on JPN servers where my ping is usually around 75ms but as I mentioned earlier, to do so would mean to play when there aren't that many players online, in addition to the fact that communication becomes stressful owing to language and cultural differences.

Because of this poor network connection, I do frequently experience lag/packet loss that directly affects my gameplay and what game modes I can play. To be specific, i will only ever be successful in weaving in one ogcd in my rotations but never two. I've often experienced lags of a second or longer, some disconnections especially whenever there is a larger server load. I'm also always on a knifes edge when dodging aoes; the most egregious experiences were those of several stressful savage runs where on my screen I would appear to have barely but successfully dodged a mechanic only to end up being dead milliseconds later (you can imagine how frustrating that can be for me and for my raid static). Dps output is never optimal for some jobs. I can pretty much forget about the quick skill and quick spell materia; which yeah okay with the exception of one or two builds we pretty much all do. Oh and that also means that some rotation guides don't apply to me. The new pvp is nothing short of a nightmare on some nights with lbs missing altogether. Etc…

I've often wondered what it would be like to play without issues like the ones I mentioned above. A friend of mine who also plays the game from the same city I'm in said that they'd tried out the jpn server once with an alt and the gameplay experience was like night and day; specifically mentioning that there's actually time rather breathing room to dodge mechanics. I'm just hoping that there's something that square could do to resolve the issues but I'm not kidding myself, I know that there's a very good chance that the only solution I may ever have is to start with a new alt on the jpn server (which I don't mind telling you is something that I would not want to do -im not an ex WoW player so whenever I make one character I pretty much stick with it throughout), or just transfer my character over, which means I lose out on the community, and let's face it, isnt that the main reason to play the game?

So the struggle, the continuing struggle for me is to chose between community and the chance to take part in a better gameplay experience.

  3. I was a hardcore raider in 2.0 and played on Dial Up from the East Coast US. It was horrible. Legit impossible to dodge divebombs on reaction in T5. Got to the point where I had to go based on feeling the timing rather than visually
