I’m at the final stage for my DRG Zodiac weapon, and phew! It’s definitely grindy.
I’m still a big fan of the community in Eureka though
Dammit, I'm trying to watch a MMO review video and I end up playing shadow of the colossus.
All I have to say is:
SE, LOOK AT EVERQUEST 2'S HOUSING SYSTEM. DO THAT, DON'T QUESTION IT JUST DO IT!
Brooo theres nothing to do in this game brooooooo
You take on leveling time really makes it clear that you don't know much, if anything about WoW and other MMOs. I'd make an opposite claim. FFXIV actually has the slowest level rate of virtually any modern theme park MMO. Playing through the MSQ takes 200+ hours if you SKIP EVERY CUTSCENE. Probably 400+ if you watch them.
It takes maybe 10 hours to level 1 to 60 in WoW. I did New World in 70 and that was grossly inefficient. GW2 and ESO take sub-50. The FFXIV MSQ is a nightmare hellscape. If you don't buy a boost and story skip, the grind is obscene. If you do skip, you end up missing out on content you may enjoy. It's a lose/lose rooted in the MSQ being one long mandatory, uninterruptible chain. Also, even after we finish the MSQ leveling from 1-90 on a new class still takes longer than many other games. Good thing boosts are cheap, I guess?
Just a friendly reminder that Guild Wars 2 exists, and a new expansion is coming out next month!
You speak the truth chair. It’s what makes this game as great as it is. It respects your time.
Man I would love your take on GW2.
0:11 dasboschitt reference lets go
Other MMOs?!!! What are you talking about shit don't exist. If other MMOs exist I'd just call them dead games before they even come out.
I think the biggest strength that FFXIV has over WoW is the lack of necessary rewards from tasks. You don't need to get gear from a raid to do the next raid, you don't need to farm apexis crystals or artifact power or soul ash just to be at the baseline the game expects for content. Content isn't really gated by player power in any meaningful way. Dan Olsen from the YouTube channel Folding Ideas has a great quote in his video essay "World of Warcraft classic and what we left behind" where he says – "If everything is meaningful, if everything is significant content with an appropriate reward and they're all on daily or weekly reset timers, then it stops feeling like an option and starts feeling like an obligation. […] If there is nothing to do, if nothing is meaningful, then you are free to self direct." Catgirl maid cafes can't exist in WoW, not because there are no catgirls on Azeroth, but because they are too busy keeping up on their 95 treadmill mechanics to stay at a baseline level on their 3 mandatory alts.
You don't know madness until you decide 'ah yes, I really want to give as many amaro as I can a good home' and come out the other end with all the shb relics and gameplan for the hw and arr relics.
As someone who used to play RuneScape 3 coming to ff14 and being able to level a crafter from 1-90 in a day was kinda nice didn’t have to spend 20 hours cutting gemstones.
Hey mr. Chair, who's your favorite Nekopara cat?
Have a great day!
Its bad in the way that it never changes with each expansion we get less and less content plus the twins are still fucking alive
well, you are explaining the game from an extremely braindead casual standpoint, I understand.
I can do everything except find a static 🙁
I haven't been back to try for myself, but from what I've heard leveling in WoW takes only about 15 (veteran) to 35 hours (new player) these days, so that's faster even than leveling a job 1-90 in FFXIV, MSQ or not. But when it comes to endgame in WoW you're on the money. After you've levelled an alt there and are exited to take it into endgame, you look at the laundry list of things you have to do to get caught up, give up and go back to your main.
Subtitles : where would a wirecraft or a friend refrain in crew.
He mumbled : Wow or ffxiv
Also the real reason for hating ARR, before recent changes that give a ton of teleport tickets to this remote location:
Pray return to the Waking Sands
Hunt Monster Up.
I played FFXIV for eight hours today. The only thing task I remember completing was Fashion Report. Damn, this is a great game.
I'm starting to question if I like MMOs myself. The idea of playing a great RPG, dumping tons of time into the end game content, and then getting to play that same game online with friends sounds like a perfect situation. Somehow along the way however, my views on what I wanted from games got muddied. I don't know if it was the 16 years of wow, on and off relationship with GW2 and SWtOR, or how refreshing a change FF14 was, but I might be over the genre. I'll still play FF14, and I might still try out Lost Ark because of previous hype for it, but I might change which kinds of games I keep an eye on. Great video!
I did not expect that gmod idiot box pic. It's been too long
Hey, chair. What is your thoughts on GW2?
It's kind of sad that you fall into the fallacy you yourself define, that FFXIV and WoW are the only MMOs out there. No, FFXIV is not the one where it's easiest to level up. No, it isn't the most accessible. Both GW2 and ESO are better in that regard. GW2 in particular is ridiculous in that it showers you with free levels, and after you have played for a while you can level up an alt character and get it in the best gear within 10 minutes of leaving character creation without needing to spend any money. And as for new players, buying the expansions gives you free max level boosts. Same with the game not forcing you to do any kind of content. Hell, in ESO you get to even choose WHERE you level up, you can do any content you want to get to max level. You want to level up in Morrowind? Sure. You would rather be somewhere else? Up to you.
But hey, let's pretend WoW is the only MMO out there. Let's pretend that WoW is the only game FFXIV has to measure up to. And let's pat ourselves on the back that FFXIV is better than the absolute shithole that is WoW.
i sometimes wish ffxiv was more of an mmo but its more of an online rpg with optional co-op thats just the type of game people are more comfortable with these days. and i think that will be the future of the genre as well people like being able to play a game in the way they choose to and not have to fear being left out or left behind.
they enjoy not having to feel long term commitment towards something and being able to return at any time they choose too.
and i think just such a game is on the horizon in the next year to come if you haven't yet look up Blue Protocol 🙂 its a promising new online rpg with an mmo feeling to it. doesnt fit with everyones criteria ofc but it does match up to FFXIV but without the subscription model lol
The Mac Vs. PC hit me hard
People (especially MMO crowd) should start actually judging for themselves based on their own personal preferences and subjective values only decide what they want to play. There are millions of different games out there. Go out and play what you like FFS.
I've played wow on and off for probably around 8 years since 2005/06 and I really just hate that game now. Honestly, when comparing MMOs, you kind of have to compare stuff to WoW from 10 years ago because current retail is a glorified mobile game. Generally I would say the game has some great parts about it. The gameplay is fun and snappy and the world is beautiful. The story/lore also used to be very effective, at least, in parts due to the familiarity from playing wc3, which most people did, back in the day. But they just never went anywhere beyond this. They kind of stopped thinking about new stuff during Wotlk and in many ways even started regressing.
Honestly right now, from my experience, FF is the best blue print to make an MMORPG. It's far from perfect, but if I was going to design my own MMO, I'd take a long and thorough look at FFXIV.
I sometimes check out wow classic to see if my mentally instable friends are still alive and suffering. If you play retail wow tho I think at this point you need therapy.
Like just play a bit of a singleplayer game for a while or something.
