  1. I wish I could get a handle on SCH, but dang… It's just so complicated to me and I feel like I'll never understand it. I've even gone out of my way to create an alt that focused on scholar, but it could never hold my interest long enough for me to really learn it.
Astro has been my go-to healer since HW, and I've loved it through all the changes and ups and downs. I still miss my Nocturnal Sect that I prefered over Diurnal, but the job is still so much fun regardless of my complaints.

  2. I wish the next the healer would be HoT centric type. Most skills do healing over time with spells that either increase the amount of healing done over time, or increasing the rate at which the healing drops. But still unique from WHM that the latter has more burst healing.

  3. I think one thing that should be pointed out is that SCH's shield size is irrelevant in 99.9% of situations, whereas SGE's ability to instant cast shields while running is much more relevant. I think the best thing SCH has on SGE is that Seraph is better than Panhaima most of the time, but in basically every other way SGE is better.

  4. The thing about SCH imo as a con, is that it's similar to BLM. To get the most out of SCH is knowing how fights work, which is similar to how you play a BLM during fights. The difference is that SCH is MASSIVELY easier then BLM. So a poor SCH imo, is pretty noticable

  5. I'd say the "real" cons for SCH are

    – Leveling process can be clunky/difficult if you don't want to spam Physick/Adlo. Between about level 30 and 45 (when you get Aetherflow) can be painful, and the 50s and 60s can be rough too until you get Fey Union. 3 lustrates (or 2 lustrates and an excog), a minute isn't always enough on dungeon pulls, where regens/sustain are preferable to bursts. (Whispering Dawn helps somewhat but it's potency is fairly low)

    – Having to sacrifice the damage from Energy Drain to heal/trying to find that balance can be frustrating, not to mention getting all three stacks of Aetherflow every minute may require more CD management than SGE's one stack of Addersgall every 20 seconds.

    – While SCH does have incredible shielding potential with recit + spreadlo, it's extremely niche. Never necessary in normal, and a DPS loss in savage unless the boss becomes untargetable.

Also, as an AST main, AST's strength is not "direct healing", it's planned healing. You're rewarded for setting up Horoscope to help you later when you do have to cast a gcd, trying to use Macrocosmos for both healing and movement, getting both damage and healing out of Earthly Star, knowing when the group will be stacked up to catch the 5 seconds of mitigation from Collective Unconscious… If you want to throw Aspected Helios at the problem until it goes away, AST is not for you.

  6. Its better now but getting a dark knight or gunbreaker's life up when they used their oh crap button and it eats your crit excog is infuriating as a scholar. if gunbreaker has a recitation excog the superbolide will unfortunately devour the ability forcing you to pop multiple other cooldowns to get the tank up. if only it healed through a superbolide.

  7. SCH was the hardest healer for me to feel powerful with at first, but once it clicked how I'm supposed to use it, it became the comfiest. WHM is exclusively my "I haven't played in 5+ months and don't remember how to push buttons" healer of choice, because it's almost impossible to mess up healing with it.

  8. Tbh the fact whm has less going on than the other healers puts it on top for me for one reason. It lets me learn the raids easier. Not having to worry about cards or proactive shielding lets me watch mechanics (and party members who stray away from the group). Knowing i can either use temperance/ligature of the bell for attacks I'm unsure of or just power through them with big heals anyway takes some of the stress off trying to learn it all

  9. My biggest cons for Scholar are that three of its cap abilities from different expansions have anti-synergy (Dissipate, Fey Union, and Seraph each disable the others) and it feels awful outside of raids. The loss of DPS buttons hurts as your only other DPS related button is Energy Drain, so you are the epitome of spamming one button. Plus, Aetherflow only being usable in combat feels like absolute ass when doing anything other than a boss. It’s definitely super strong, I just hate that all the cool not healing stuff Scholar used to have (a different fairy, 3 single target DoTs, Bane, Shadowflare) are all gone and 90%+ GCDs will be Broils and the occasional Bio.

  10. As a Astrologian main, I'm very happy and comfortable with the way it plays right now. And yes I do play it on PS5 controller with no macros so to those complaining to the devs that it's too difficult to play because of all of it's wonders and tools, y'all need to get on my level lol. That being said I am sad to hear that 7.0 is going to rework it AGAIN for the 4th time. I started with Stormblood Astrologian and perfected my craft with it. In some small ways, Astrologian really did help make me a better FFXIV player these past 6 years. Nothing else is as stimulating than high IQ plays and having your 3rd eye stretched open till you reach healing and buffing nirvana.

  11. Scholar main here, and woo woo! It's rare to hear we get love like this, so this was rather surreal and awesome to see you picked Scholar to be the best! I am biased ofc but yes, I DEF agree 100%!!!

  12. AST main however here's my break down …

AST = when you want to be as busy and complex as possible
SCH = when you want to relax and take it easy, this job make healing a breeze
SGE = when you want to dps and heal at the same time
WHM = when you only want to heal your self and do dmg 😂😂😂

  13. Aaah yes, another 30+ minute video on healers by Mr Happy that completely ignores the glaring issues with the role. Zepla has bigger balls than you sir

  14. As a Scholar main, I just think back to the memes after the job actions trailer, how the tables have turned lol. We may not be the flashiest healers but dammit, we're effective.

  15. I started the game back in 5.X and I always knew I was going to be a healer main. Looked up guides and fell in love with the SCH job fantasy and its moderate difficulty.

I feel like we SCH mains rarely get some love probably because of the honestly lackluster skill animations, but it more than makes up for it by being the best at what it does. Feels good to be recognized mann!
