FFXIV: Using The Chat Box

Ohhhh noooo! How often does this happen to you? People are shouting at you and you have earplugs in by accident?!

Now try “reading your damn chat!” With “reading your damn chat,” all your worries will melt away!

But more seriously, I go over the chat box and many of it’s features, and some of the social features the game has to offer. Because let’s be real, your chat is probably a mess. And you should be using it a lot more than you do. People are scary, but even a tiny bit of talking can improve your experience.

  1. Also, I count macros as their own thing. Perhaps a video for the future. But I felt like I'd not properly frame them if I mentioned it in the video itself. I would need at least 10 minutes and I wanted this to be a shorter, sweeter video.

There is no up to date info on that topic on YouTube and I would love to listen to your guide on that topic

  3. Thanks for another great guide.

Been a while since i've messed with my chat filters, but for clearing out the Battle tab filter, I believe you can select Default and then choose the General or Event settings and then deselect from there.

  5. I'm not sure if I missed it while watching the video but another tip is you can press tab after typing a part of a word or a sentence to reveal a list of auto-complete text options in the auto-translate function.

For example, you can type "tha" and then hit tab, and a window filled with options on what you might want to say, such as "thank you" or "thank you. Now I must take my leave", etc. It makes communicating with people using different languages much faster. Might take a little time to get used to though.

  6. Notification sounds with party chat was by far the best thing I turned on when I was a sprite. So many times people were trying to tell me mechanics during a fight but I was too tunnel-visioned in my rotation to notice the text.

  7. This is a great and informative video! Nice!

Oh yeah since this video is about chat box and chatting in FFXIV, there might be some cases when you say something to a wrong channel! Like for example, you're talking to your friend in a party and you didn't realize you typed in Novice Network or channels where other people are in it. Most people type "mt" or short for "mistell", and then quickly move to your desired channel.
