FFXIV Yoshi-P is not playing around when it comes to taking action against those using add-ons in Final Fantasy 14. Yesterday a Japanese streamer got the first ban for using these tools it has created a lot of debate around what should and shouldn’t be allowed in FF14. This another example off FF fanboys being utterly bizarre to any typical PC user. Even if ToS don't allow the mods, that doesn't make this right. It makes the ToS trash. There is no need to defend a corporation for horrible, anti-player policies.
when you make an account and sign up to play ffxiv every single one of us sign to say we accept that third party tools are not allowed i really dont understand why people would agree to it and then later moan about not being able to use them, dps meters i feel is a breeding ground for toxic people and alot of hate i myself and a relative that played the game come across one of them people when we missed a skill and all we got was constant death threats from the person that had the dps meter so i think in my own opinion everything thrid party should still be not allowed,
If a rule isn't enforced is it really a rule at all? As a console player I'm glad they're doing something, I've felt disadvantaged when it comes to trying to get into savage raiding, even something as simple as discord is more difficult for console players and requires jumping through some hoops to be able to use it, I also can't parse myself which means I can only use xivanalysis if someone else parses me and uploads my log. However I've never advocated for taking these things away from pc players but rather make them available to console players. We don't necessarily need a DPS meter in real time but maybe adding one to stone sky sea or having certain training dummies that let you parse yourself in game or something like that that then also could have the functionality of xivanalysis where it tells you if you overcapped resources or missed/delayed certain abilities. I don't know if they could make discord connect with 14 for voice chat in premade groups that consoles could use but that would be great (although it does seem like discord is coming to playstation, at the moment though it can only show what you're playing on playstation not voice chat). The fact remains though that they aren't adding any anti cheat and so far don't seem to be going after the general users so the old "don't talk about it and they'll never know" seems to still stand for everyone who doesn't stream.
I mean he used it on twitch where devs can see the add ons. Streamers need to be held to the same standard as everyone else who plays … also mods and act is like fight club … don’t talk about it jeez
Your speaking Greek to me I’ve been final fantasy 14 since 2013 don’t know if my dps is I press button see big numbers I don’t understand buffs or gcds or other gaming acronyms I play for the story first no matter how small the story. And N2B the game is pretty much my social life I want to get guid I watch videos I try to get the skill tree rotations down
Cont- I get the best time at our Incan find and materia as much as I can I experiment until I see big numbers I play monk because I practice martial arts and it’s fast and I like to move around but the tech buffs rotations I don’t understand them 😂 I just glamour my characters to N2B and press buttons so people using add ons 😂 that explains a lot I didn’t know I just thought I sucked
This isnt casual vs hardcore or PC vs PS, its ToS breakers vs everyone and they are trying to change the debate to deflect from their own wrong doing
I lost most of my sympathy for the people advocating for addons with all the straw man arguments. I can almost understand how people can misinterpret Yoshi-P's comments about excel and discord but people have started suggesting FF14 is going to start banning people for wearing eyeglasses. I have no worries about that because I know that the entire department responsible for handing out suspensions didn't all suddenly get lobotomies.
3rd party tools are banned, they have always banned. Well there enforcement of the rule is inconsistent, you tempt fate if you proudly display the 3rd party tools you use. If you get banned you only have yourself to blame for going against the TOS.
Ever since the introduction of Feast and now CC, we’ve had a form of a post-game performance report in PvP. For a long time I’ve hoped for an expansion on this tool into PvE content as an option / setting
They need to either start rigidly enforcing their mod policy or change it entirely. I'm a PC player who wants to use mods but I never have because I don't want to be banned one day and have all my work in this game taken from me; it would be devastating. And yet, so many people flaunt their mods and discuss them. You hit the nail on the head when you said it makes players without mods feel like the 'have-nots' compared to the players that risk their accounts for mods. Why should we feel like we need to put ourselves at risk to be on the same playing field as modders? It's such a messed up state that this policy is in, something needs to change. Start really cracking down on this stuff and make it so no one feels safe even bringing up mods or be done with that already and start suppprting addons like WoW did. One or the other. Square, the lazy middle-ground of discouraging it but barely enforcing the policy isn't working.
These tos are probably based on SE tos and not from yoshi p himself
Complaining that somebody got banned for breaking TOS is pretty dumb tbh
Just don't use addons, problem solved
Your argument is put damage meters in the game because some pc players use them and console players can't and that's unfair. Following that logic heroin should be legal because some people use it and those that have never tried it are excluded.
thatshilarious/awesome that there's an actual gaol lol
I love how Yoshi p its a man of his word .now about that HOUSING
I'm a ps4 player so I'll never have this issue
pc players are being holdback graphically by consoles? wtkinda bullshit is that?
Oh, NOW rules are enforced…
Get out of here with this nonsense!!!
your idea for pop performance overview would b great for pop
So their is a bigger post then what is here on the forums, but am going to keep it simple and pretty much what I posted on a similar post….
Humans have a tendency to want to post things in the forums and show on their streams what they are doing in game. I don't. People need to keep what they do in game their business. NO ONE AND I REPEAT NO ONE needs to know what you are doing. Keep your BS secret and enjoy the game.
Fact is, the terms of service regarding third party tools have been like this from the very beginning. The use of said tools was simply tolerated to a point and the FFXIV team has given us a lot of warnings over the years to not go overboard.
Also fact is, we had a huge influx of new players in recent years who were and are used to using addons to the point, they've become a requirement for high-end content in certain other games. At the same time, the existing FFXIV community has grown bolder in their usage because of the lax enforcement of the rules.
With the amount of cheating software in Chrystal Conflict and the beginning migration of interface and other addons from certain other games, it was only a matter of time for Yoshi-P and his team to put their foot down. I've watched one of the neverland first kill videos before it was taken down and the person in question literally used an addon for his personal callouts on every boss mechanic. It was literally bossmods with voiceover, which is exactly the kind of third party tool that Yoshi-P didn't want to creep into this game.
So, honestly, what did people expect? The banned streamer was a convenient target to make an example after the lodestone post that the gloves are off. Did they really think everything would continue as is and they could just continue ingnoring the ToS at this point?
For all that people who are asking what is consider a third party tool… you need to turn off the game and go back to school, i hate when people feign ignorance just to be difficult, remember in real life ignorance is not an excuse.
