The more I play FF14, the more I wonder how I squandered my time in WoW. How did WoW have such a grip on me and yet, it is nothing compared to this.
I'm glad my job has me playing later in the night, my queue is only 400 at most on a popular NA world
I have canceled WOW and played some FFIV, but I just cannot get into the game. Don't like it.
No offense against FFXIV really, but of all games, why THAT? There are several great MMOs on the market, but why does the stream only run into FF?
can someone tell when the game gets better? i am halfway through shadowbringers and it's as boring as on day one. (seriously… no need to trigger some aggressive fanboys. i just want something to play after 16 years of WoW)
I feel you Matt, good videogames deserve to be praised! 😀
Yoshi-P hasn't slept since 2010. True facts 😛
I had to change my play time and yet still get in game with low ques. One of the advantages of working graveyards is getting on before others get up in NA. They are generally as uncrowded as pre launch but duty finder ques are improved. No problem getting into those on a DPS. SMN changes are great, it's my current favorite job.
I think I should really hammer in how huge of a deal not only Yoshi-P wanting to stop FFXIV sales and actually doing it; they gave up Christmas. On that day, there would've been another big wave of people starting because either someone gave them the game as a gift or they get the hardware to actually play/try it. That would've several hundred thousand more people now
Literally so many people baiting for attention in the comments, save your brain cells, this comment section isn’t worth your time
Sure there is collateral but lets be real here if they got so many people that they are halting sales they can then probably AFFORD TO CANCEL advertisements. Cause if 30 to 40 MILLION people from WOW are suddenly going to FFXIV the basic math alone of minimum of 600 MILLION from monthly subs would make most 150K cancelled ad deals are like chump change. At the current market value of FFXIV it could be argued if Yoshi- P wanted to they could probably BUY the WoW servers >.> and maybe even the IP if they keep making 600 million usd a month. Its like 4 years at this number of subs and they could probably buy the WoW IP out right.
Love that quote.
"Here's $25 million in free game time. Why? Because you couldn't play. It's not our money"
I wanted to return to it. But for some reason Square Enix had an amazing idea not allowing Standard Accounts to download the game unless they have active Subscription. I'm not wasting sub time to download the game I potentially might not even be able to play because of the Queue times.
My friend who started playing the game earlier this year got TWO different "have you tried the award winning MMO RPG…" Shirts from her friends for Christmas this year. The game does things to people. And after Endwalker, I'm so glad of their success. Endwalker has a message we all need to hear. It's actually made me a more positive person with a better out look on lifw
Not trying to bash people who play why but back then I was given a 60day gamecard.. I think it was in 2005 or 2007 I dont really remember but let's just say I still have that card and the seal is still there. I never liked how the game looked, same for ff14 1.0 but once my friend gave it to me for 2019 Christmas I've been hooked ever since
Matt has convinced me, I need the Hades T-Shirt
They need to make some east coast servers for na ff14
"Eorzea is full. Please go away."
YoshiP always looks so exhausted in the run up to an expansion release, and by two weeks post release he and the entire team would be starting to take some well-deserved time off. I can't even imagine what it's like in CBU3 right now though. YoshiP won't be able to sleep for another three months at this rate.
I've been going through Shadowbringers, and god damn, where has this game been all my life..
these wow players are so funny. they said it was a weeb game for years. called the graphics worse than wow. capitalized on the not so bad but could be better pvp system. ffxiv somehow is still the number one though. i can’t wait for savage guys how about you?
The memes are all out of love for YoshiP! I love him ahahah I hope he laughs at the memes!
1.0 still haunts us
Problem is due to the chip shortages it’s hard for him to fix the issue. No reason for him to be stressed since he has no control over this situation.
The man always looks so exhausted TAT. I hope after the raids come out they can finally have a small break of some kind. Yoshi P mentioned he doesn't really have a life outside of work I hope work at least throws the team a quiet party to make them stop working for even alittle.
This is also a case of not funding better servers, you have to call that out but you won't
I started FFXIV last year, brought my best friend with me and I’m hopefully going to convince two more friends to come and join me… I can only see this game growing in the coming year
I don't even play FF14, and I adore Yoshi-P.
He is the quintessential role-model for how developers should endeavor to interact and engage with their community.
If only every developer had a Yoshi-P in charge, the gamming world would be a far better place.
Take notes Activision-Blizzard! EA! Ubisoft! Bungie!
Yoshi's behavior is how you win over your fan base.
To be honest with you I think the 21 days of free play is too generous I think 14 days is good enough and that is coming from a long time ff14 player since 2.0
I think some of the pressure will have eased now alot of people have capped atleast one job so are not as desperate to get on which is probably why my servers queues have done down from over 8k to about 1k currently, but it shows there values of the company is still there that they place the players time & loyality more than having their money right now thinking it will be fine to leave as it is till they get more servers.
to be honest, ever since they fixed the issue where we were getting kicked from queue, i can live with the wait time for logins. as long as i get in the queue and know I will stay there until in, I am golden. I remote into my computer when I drive home from work and I get through the queue about 30 minutes after I get home lmao
Oh this is why I suddenly couldn't queue on my free trial account. Unfortunately the message I see when a server is full and my log in is rejected doesn't explain why this queue policy changed for free trial users, would be nice if it was clearer so I understood the reason for the change.
I've currently taken a break from ffxiv and I'm getting into eso till hopefully things get back to normal or at least better with the queue cause as a casual player i really can't deal with waiting an hour to get in just to play an hour or two
I played wow. But that was my biggest problem. I played pretty much all by myself. I enjoyed it, never was really ever able to get into the dungeons, raids or world bosses. I explored killed mobs and lived the wanderers life.
I didn't see any issues with it. Probably because I was never really doing anything spectacular in game. Or played the majority of the content.
FF is just different. I still don't have "friends" but I can do things here. I did the new EX trials which I was always intimidated to try. And hey I won! Still living the wanderers life but I make progress here.
Old news..
At the risk of falling to troll bait, here's an explanation of the server shortage/crisis for people who are genuinely interested in why Square can't get new servers to alleviate the congestion.
Back in the day, the company did actually buy new servers when stuff like this happened. They bought extra servers when ARR released and demand surpassed expectations (the issues were rather similar to this launch, actually). So why can't they do the same now? Simple answer: the silicon shortage. Here's the longer, more in depth answer.
For a while now, the chip production industry has basically been walking a very fine line in terms of output. We've almost mined out all the pure silicon deposits there are. There's still more silicon to mine, but it's way more impure and refining silicon to be chip grade is very expensive and time consuming. So this shortage of silicon was coming for a while – COVID just made everything worse. When the refineries had to shut down/work limited production hours, everything slowed down to a crawl. And I mean EVERYTHING. People honestly have no clue just how much technology is involved in every sector of every industry. From hospitals to your car, you need chips – chips which are not being produced nearly fast enough to meet demands, chips which are now in extremely short supply, chips which now everyone needs. And since everyone needs them, everyone is on a waitlist. Those waitlists can be as long as over a year.
A lot of people think that buying new server tech is like buying graphics cards: yes, it's a pain they're so expensive right now, but you can cough up the dough. However, server tech is far more intricate, specialized, and difficult to set up than any computer part. Servers have to be designed to rigorous specifications, then installed at a site, then tested for issues, THEN be integrated. You can rush order the process, but not right now when literally everyone else is rush ordering. When Square says they've offered double market price for their servers but they can't get them, it's because those servers do not exist. They're not bidding for servers just sitting in a warehouse, they're bidding for a team to manufacture and assemble the server parts to their specifications. The answer for a long time will unfortunately be "Sorry, but those chips for your servers have already been bought by someone else." It's like asking your baker friend to make you a nice danish pastry, but all his flour has been bought out by another baker for them to make their bread. I would be shocked and amazed if Square got their hands on new servers by late 2022. The shortage for chips is expected to last until 2023, and maybe 2024.
If this is still not a satisfactory answer, and you're wondering why they haven't considered alternatives like buying refurbished servers or using cloud servers, the answer is simple: everyone else has the same idea. There are companies in Europe who have considered approaching Square Enix to buy THEIR servers because they need them too. And other companies who have extra servers are not parting with them anytime soon, because they're also waiting on new server parts and need to keep their surplus as backups in case anything breaks. There's a lot of industries on edge right now. As for cloud servers, the FFXIV team tested out the idea and found the latency issues to be intolerable. They're stuck with their current servers for now until they can buy more.
"But they should have anticipated this!" No, not really. The huge FFXIV boom happened in the middle of a pretty big content lull at the end of Shadowbringers, when most people would cancel their subs and wait for Endwalker to release. No one expected Blizzard to shoot themselves in the foot this bad, and no one expected the streamers to hop over. It was basically a perfect storm, and the devs were scrambling until the last second to make sure things wouldn't explode on release. The 2002 bug was honestly something that would never have been picked up in bug testing – and as most programmers know, the client is always the best bug tester. So, really, it is as simple as that. They can't get new parts. They can't get old parts. Cloud servers have been tried and they failed. So we're just in the waiting game. It's a terrible situation for them to be in, and I commend them for doing their best to alleviate the issue for subscribed players.
redbull in a humidifier….
So Ian just has to cry and all is good. 🤣 🤣 🤣 suckered.
I legitimately worry about Yoshi-P's health. The man is clearly stressed with everything that's going on, and the fact that he smokes doesn't help. I just picture him in his office, chain smoking and not going home and it worries me
Queues are back to normal on crystal it’s mostly 70 or less people
After they stopped giving free trials the amount of RMT advertising almost gone extinct on my server
SQENIX simps on this issue are super pathetic. It is a multi billion dollar corporation people are treating as powerless and as if Yoshi P really loved them as friends. It is embarrassing that grown adults act this way.
STFU about FFXIV online already
It's a decent PvE game. There are more deserving MMOs to give attn to
Matt shall do his duty, as he has ever done.
Do you think halting sales will lead to more sales in the long term due to the forbidden fruit effect?
"What is this MMO that is so popular it's not adding people? I want to check it out!"
As a savage player, I wouldn't mind if they delayed it a bit. As a savage player, I understand why they've unlikely to and I'm ok with that just fine.
Been busting your balls for a bit now, but I would like to wish you guys a Merry Christmas & Happy New Year!
