Welcome back to Tiny Blue Games! My name is Csaw or Chris, and today we are talking about Final Fantasy 14 in 2021. Today we are continuing our journey through Stormblood. This video features a live playthrough of Shisui of The Violet Tides, the first unlockable dungeon in Stormblood. As with every expansion I’m always super excited to see as many dungeons as I can, and this instance certainly did not disappoint!

As a relatively new ffxiv player, I have enjoyed giving my first impressions of the many different pieces of content this game has to offer. If you are interested in exploring the game yourself I suggest you check out the Final Fantasy 14 free trial. This trial lets play all the way to level 60 (including both the base ARR and Heavensward expansion), with no time restrictions. It was ultimately the free trial that convinced me to dive into the full game and the new Shadowbringers expansion!

👀 So… why do I need to be a little old lady to survive?

  1. I remember when I did this Dungeon with couple friends of mine one them said during the Ruby Princess fight "I'm a gay man, I should be immune to this!" jokingly obviously but still.

Also in regards of the videos, honestly do as you like, we veterans know that FF14 story has a lot times where the story isn't as fun to watch. So if you feel like you should capture only the high lights like the dungeons or major story events them do so, if you think it'll improve the quality of the videos.

  2. Fun fact about the name of this dungeon "Shisui" is written with the kanji 【紫】 meaning "purple" or "violet" and 【水】 meaning "water", so one way to interpret the name of this dungeon is "Violet Tides of the Violet Tides". And while I'm talking about game trivia, outside, in the Ruby Sea, if you go to the far north eastern corner of the map, at (x: 38, y: 6) and dive under water, you'll find the wreck of a ship named the Kobayashi Maru, which is a nice little Easter egg referencing Star Trek.

Now for dungeon mechanics! You figured out a decent chunk of these on your own, it's pretty clear to me that you're getting much better at reading this game's design language and intuiting how the mechanics work on the fly.

    Boss 1: Amikiri
    1. Shuck will mark a single random party member, the boss will then run over to that player, bind them in place, rear up and begin a very long cast, if the cast completes the target will most likely die. While this is happening one of the boss's hind legs will become targetable, breaking the leg will interrupt the cast, and cause the boss to fall on its back, temporarily increasing the amount of damage it takes.
    2. occasionally Kamikiri adds will spawn and mark three players with the blue mark you saw, for a mechanic called Digest*, if they complete the cast, puddles of water drop around the mark players which give a *Dropsy damage over time debuff to anyone standing in them. Killing the adds quickly prevents this from happening, which is why you never saw it.

    Boss 2: Ruby Princess
    1. This boss's main mechanic is Seduce which is a room-wide attack that forces anyone hit to slowly walk toward the boss. She will then immediately follow up with Coriolis Kick which is a large point-blank AoE, guaranteed to hit anyone that was previously seduced. To avoid this you run through one of the four boxes to get the Old debuff, because as everyone knows, princesses won't seduce old people… I guess… yeah I don't know it's a weird mechanic.
    2. Abyssal Volcano marks the two DPS, and chases them with eleven small circular AoEs. You just do what you did, and kite them around the outside.

    Boss 3: Shisui Yohi
    1. Thick Fog causes the boss to disappear and three Chum adds to spawn. Players get a stack of Dropsy damage over time debuff for each add that is still alive. The boss will use Black Tide and reappear shortly after all three adds are killed; anyone hit with this attack will take damage and get a stack of *Vulnerability Up*.
    2. Two Naishi-no-jo adds will spawn targeting the DPS and a Naishi-no-Kami add will spawn targeting the healer. These will immediately begin casting Bite and Run on their chosen target, dealing very high damage. Just kill the adds before they complete their cast. If the boss casts Thick Fog while these shark adds are still alive, they will all become invisible and untargetable, but they will still finish casting Bite and Run, so you really don't want to leave them alive any longer than necessary.

  3. I ran this so many times to get all of the glam (some of the best in the game for sure) but I actually still love to see it pop up in roulette. It's just a fun run with some great moments.

  4. One thing of note gameplay wise is that you never used Meikyo Shisui (coincidentally given the dungeon). It's the icon with the 3 coloured shapes in a sort of inverted triangle. It should basically be used as soon as it's off cooldown and you don't have any seals as it allows to you just use the last skill in the usual chain to get a seal without having to do any of the early parts of the chain (for example, you can just do 3 instead of 1,2,3 to get the seal from that chain). There are a few other ways to mess around with it but the basics is that you can use it to almost instantly get yourself up to Big Damage time as soon as a fight starts or after you've spent all of your seals.

  5. On the second boss, the reason to go to the chest and turn into the crone is to avoid the Seduce spell which forces you to walk into her AE circle.

I totally understand schedule issues and to be honest, the more you are enjoying what you're doing for videos, the more enjoyable they are to watch. Your curiosity and enthusiasm show. If content creating becomes a grind, the videos will reflect that as well. Basically, you do you and we will all watch!

  6. Fun tidbit time! The old boxes are based off the Japanese folklore of Urashima Taro! A story of a fisherman that saves a sea turtle. He is rewarded with a banquet in a undersea palace. He enjoys it and gifted a box before leaving. When he returns to the surface, 100 years has passed. He is confused and opens the box handed to him which gives him his age back. All 100 years.

  7. gotta say I was worried about burnout too. Glad that you're aware.
And if you feel like doing different things and can only do it on Saturday, I say do it! The worst thing for your XIV videos would be doing them because you "have to" instead of because you want to.
