  1. Zenos is a good villain, he just definitely is a good villain for entirely different reasons than the likes of the ones from Shadowbringers or Heavensward- his motives are not really meant to be empathized with or understood in the same way, and that's totally fine! He is really just super fun and my favorite parts of Stormblood was just having a rival character to trade blows with, someone I can count on for a good fight and winded monologues the same way you count on [insert ShB antagonist here] for their motivations and history.

  2. i find it funny that people dislike Zenos only because he doesn't have a sad backstory that explains the things he does but that's the part i like about him don't get me wrong he isn't my favorite villain but i love that he doesn't need things like "oh you wouldn't understand" " you have no idea how i feel" "i have bigger plans" etc. i love the rivalry that he has with the WOL like yo i don't care if the whole planet is gonna burn if it means we can fight at our full potential and having an awesome battle just the fact that he craving for someone who can compete with him that's why i ike him in that pool of gray tone villains

  3. Hoping that Zenos gets a hobby or something during EW because my WoL is extremely tired of dealing with him and he is more of a nuisance than a threat at this point. Like….dude, go away lol.

  4. To this day it still makes no sense as to how Zenos could beat us when we first met him. We can use Aether, have legendary weapons, a ton of combat experience. Even if he is the "best" swordsman he literally can't compete because we are made superhuman through the manipulation of Aether, made stronger with the Echo and blessing from all the crystals. Zenos as a trueblood Garlean can't manupulate Aether and his armor is just that armor, its not a powersuit. The only arguement that I've heard is people saying that Zenos is level 70 and you are level 60 and your growth throughout Stormblood gets you to level 70 to compete with him. The storywriters are normally very specific about power gauges or how things work in FFXIV but when it comes to Zenos its very vague and unconvincing for me.

  5. I love zenos, just by looking at what we go through as the WoL you can see he has polar opposite parallels in his character to ours, and just like yin and yang, there needs to be a balance and even though his intent is rather…combatsexual, it’s almost as if he’s trying to push the playing field evenly upward not just one side.
I think more of his cynical nature will not only unfold in endwalker but possibly come to an end, but who knows.

  6. It really is such a shame that Zenos is simply not interested in anything but having good fights. He's not the sorta villain that's like: "Well you beat me, BUT NEXT TIME! shakes fist at the air " he accepted defeat and was glad to have met his match, and now the only reason Endwalker is happening is because fate gave him a second chance and he feels he earned the right to pursue a second combat with us.

Zenos doesn't want to fight forever, he wants a cinematic end and victory for him would only be worth it if he had to give it his all to just barely eek out a win.

If only he could be thrilled by personal growth outside of strength.

  7. Zenos is a really good contrast to most of the antagonists we've been having, where we could relate to their motives in the very least. Usually villains with the whole "I love fighting too much" are a sign of bad writing, but here, contrasting with the other antagonists we had, the fact that we can't relate makes him feel truly alien, and truly terrifying.

  8. I see so many people saying Zenos isn’t relatable, and from a certain point of view – the WoL – I get it, but what makes Zenos so fascinating to me is that he IS oh so relatable on another level entirely – a foil to you, the player. The more combat or raiding focused, the better. Think about it. Someone who only exists in this world for their amusement, for ever new content and combat, for challenges to become ever stronger, and to keep fighting until you’ve won and asserted your strength and dominance over any and all that would oppose you, then disappear until the next challenge arrives. No one around you is real, no one around you really matters.

Viewed on this level, Zenos becomes not just a delightful simple villainous powerhouse; he’s horrifying when you consider that he’s not all that different from you, the person playing the Warrior of Light. Zenos could very easily be one of those world-first proggers, or be a dark reflection.

  10. Y'know what's funny to me? A lot of people say that Zenos is so alien and unrelatable and that makes him a great villain, but I think that's only part of it. Truth is, he's NOT wholly unrelatable. He's a dark foil for the WoL – unnaturally powerful compared to the people around him, craves a good challenge, willing to do anything and go to any length in pursuit of his goals. The key difference is, to paraphrase another Garlean, 'for whom he fights'. Zenos is basically the WoL without any self-control or motivations beyond themselves and their own gratification. In fact, THAT is what makes Zenos so alien and so fascinating. He's so much like us, yet in one fundamental way he's completely different, and that one main difference is enough to make us a hero and him a monster.

  11. I just finished EW and I have to say, Zenos has been a constant companion and his end story was amazing. I really didn't think anything would beat shadowbringers but boy and howdy was I wrong! I think I am going to start a whole new toon just so I can play through the whole game again! I seriously wish they still had the 50 boost so I could just start in heavensward but oh well.

  12. “Zenos is a cutscene skipper, he just wants the end game content and all the cool stuff without the story” -me, anytime he’s on screen 😂 seriously though Zenos is a great villain, not all of them need complexities but he still has them, they’re just more subtle and I love it.

  13. I like the simplicity of Zenos. Compared to the moustache twirling of the Empire and Ascians, the sheer scale of most primals or simply the cruelty of somebody like Yotsuyu or Fandaniel – Zenos just wants to have a redneck muckdown with his best friend while everyone watches.
