Yes im testing out a new outfit ( Ignore the fact I'm currently rolling paladin despite my constant criticism )
Other then that Lemme no your thoughts down here and if your feeling especially enthused by the thumbnail smash that subscribe button . x!
Hmm as someone who has been playing with them for a long time. I like for them to stay, mostly because the true north helps for times you can't get in the right spot. But if they are gone, I won't lose sleep.
I personally find positionals kind of unnecessary nowadays. Before, most bosses tend to have a specific walk speed and tanks had a more vital role in keeping the boss still to help melee. But now, they kinda just jump to the middle or adjust for a mechanic that just boils down to run out of AoE then pop back. Even then, most melee jobs have 2-3 positional skills at best. I'd honestly want the battle developers focus more on the intricacies of melee jobs in either charge skills or more in depth rotations than positionals.
Positionals are here to stay I think, its something unique to FF14. Although back then combat was more strategic and slower paced. Nowadays its rather hectic, some of the EW bosses make BLM's cry in the corner with how all over the place they are. Melee uptime however is really good, especially since bosses have half a screen sized hitboxes. The bosses in EW are finally back to the older theme with movement and smaller hitboxes, not just a "wall boss" so to speak. Such bosses made positionals redundant since you could never hit a positional without True North.
They pruned a lot of things with EW, simplified too many things to the point that homogenisation and oversimplification made some job archetypes borderline braindead (tanking and phys.ranged comes to mind) or just reworked a job to feel like having a lvl 70 toolkit at lvl 90 (SMN).
Well, time will tell for sure. But I think removing positionals is unlikely, its kind of one of the identities of FF14 that sets it apart from the other MMOs.
I'm not sure as a person only just now branching out into other jobs after 8 years of Whitemage. I finished Paladin and am now working on Monk.
Only having two positional attacks feels very antiquated to me, so I don't really use them in casual content which is where I'm playing monk the most atm. I do think however for people who take their deeps super seriously, jobs would be lesser without having positionals. I would agree with the sentiment that executing your rotation and keeping in mind your positionals to fully optimize your damage adds more substance to jobs that have them.
1:13 How could I not trust in a pink haired lalafell?
Positionals are not really something I pay attention to, … but then again I'm not a competitive raider either (yet anyways). It'd be nice for them maybe to give one more charge of true north, or have the buff last just a little longer, but besides that, and as someone who doesn't care or pay attention to doing max damage most of the time, could take it or leave it.
However I do think positions serve a small purpose for that extra squeeze of damage. Not that positional should be necessary for completing an end-game EX or Savage raid, or even Ultimates for that matter.
To say "Reward players for playing the class right, or punish/tax those who don't" is two sides of the same coin. Both happen at the same time, I guess it's just a "glass half full or empty." .. It's half either way.
But I could see an achievement for EX & Savages if it's completed in XX amount of time, which would perhaps requires that extra squeeze of DPS from using positionals, while just simply completing the EX or Savage can be done without them, but by learning the mechanics of the fight. That way you're not punishing people who play melee DPS specifically, since magical and ranged DPS don't have such a requirement, from playing the class they want to play and to participate in high end content.
