  1. Its wild that wow is listening to feedback and trying new things while yoshi p is sticking to the same stale cadencee and design formula and ffxiv is suffering for it. Only thing keeping ffxiv insulated is the encounter design and their rp community thats married to the game.

Although in discourse i find it kind of hilarious that the issues wow players have with wow (our character is too important now, i miss being a random adventurer) is the polar opposite of ffxiv story issues for dawntrail (wah were not the main character, were in the background helping out the actual hero)

  2. Having played the latest expansion of FFXIV, Dawntrail, hearing such praise for WoW makes me feel jealous. That being said, I'm glad WoW players get to enjoy good story and worldbuilding again. From all I've heared, you guys suffered long enough. Hope Blizzard can keep it up both story- and gameplay-wise.

  3. If your going to do a new game channel you should do a multi game one rather then locking yourself into just a second game. Good to see you enjoyed it though.

16:28 Maybe you missed it but were all friends now after shadowland and dragon flight. Imo I like this vibe better as were all one side and only pvp is the division because its like a sport. It kind of reminds me of eso. Don't get me wrong I like faction war too but I get my fill of that in classic wow modes and I prefer the modern game to be more like eso as it is. I play both sides so I like that I can put my alts from both sides in one cross faction guild. The faction war is always there if you ever want to take a trip to classic wow but I think for the sake of raid fairness and being able to play with opposite faction friends this is better for retail. I do think its fair to say there should have been more horde leaders taking the stage too. Actually in the 4th zone when lilian voss came out of no where to help I thought that was super cool.

18:44 Just wait for seasons to start lmao. Na I think the only real way to burn out is to take gear to serious and then get mad when it resets on a new season. I think if you get gear doing what you like rather then just focusing on min maxing the gearing grind then a seasonal reset isn't that bad but we'll see.

  4. The biggest reason I bought the original Collector's Edition of WoW was because it came with an installation DVD in addition to the 4 compact discs. Little did I know having a CE would end up being cooler for other reasons, lol.

I have to admit though, there's nothing as awesome as the Legacy Tattoo in FFXIV. Being able to show off something like that on your character that's not a pet or random title is probably my favorite novelty.

  5. I agree with your criticism of the story being Alliance centered. The game is in a place where it feels like Alliance vs Horde only comes into play in battlegrounds. In the open world they are treating us as one and the same. That's a real loss in my opinion.

I get that from a dev standpoint it's way easier and cheaper to only create one storyline, but it's disappointing. Other than that it's a really good expansion and I'm enjoying it more than any since Pandaria.

  6. I'm still leary about the fomo. I see seasons, and my mind immediately goes to I have to play every day, and if I miss a day, I'm further in a hole. And I hate that.

I remember I came back mid Dragonflight, and a character had armor on. And I wanted it. I came to find out it was removed from the game and was only available for season 2. I quit the game. I know it's extreme to think like that, but I was willing to main that class and raid or pvp to get that gear, and I can't. And it just defeated me.

I'm scared that after all the glowing praise that Wow is still Wow. And I can't seem to take that next step.

  7. The reason this seems so Alliance centric is because the Horde keeps elevating conquerors and world beaters to Warchief. They've killed all the named Horde characters other than Thrall and the Blood Elf guy(who will be more central in Midnight).

  8. People keep saying they did a banger job with the story but i really don't see it as an FF player. I read all the quest text, i stayed a while and listened and i feel like all we did was go to 4 different zones, do 4 mini stories, met a bunch of people, didn't conclude any of it and then suddenly i'm fighting my way to the big bad during the post 80 story.

It all felt so rushed with barely any build up or payoff that i legit thought i'd done something wrong and missed the story.

Edit – It doesn't help that I have no idea who all these characters are, why they are the way they are and have no attachment to them when they're in danger.

  9. 2:50 Tststs…there are no Nerubians in Silithus – those are Qiraji. The only time we encountered Nerubians before was in Northrend. And of course undead Nerubians as part of the Scourge since Warcraft 3.

As for the expansion – I am having a ton of fun. The storytelling is good in both the main quest and the side quests, the "stay a while and listen" opportunities are a great idea because they are entirely optional – the people not interested in the lore can simply ignore them and the people who are into the lore can pick up more lore which is great.

Currently I'm busy levelling all of my 59 Warband members 😉 I'm not planning to raid or do M+ this time, I'll take my time and enjoy the game. Raids have lost their appeal to me – I've been raiding everything from vanilla Onyxia up to Sepulcher and I somehow don't enjoy raids anymore.

  10. Been hearing a lot of good things about this expansion. I kinda want to give it a try, but I'm exclusively a controller player on FFXIV and am having a hard time with KB/M. FF has me spoiled this way. I know WoW has some controller support now, and I tried it on the trial back in Dragonflight, but I feel like I spent so much time fighting to get it right.

  11. I hate the "what about horde identity! Where is the horde charatders??" Brah the game has been slowly remov9ng all favtion identity and people have been championing removing factions. Also i want a good story. If the horde or alliance charayxers have to take a back seat, im all good as long as the story is good.

  12. Splitting the audience reduced the server population by 47% on full retail launch Monday.

This was the smoothest launch ever for World of Warcraft. People can’t dislike it all they want, but it accomplished the goal.

    1. Make money
    2. Ultra smooth launch for both crowds. No waiting for hours and hours to play the game. We didn’t experience server crash after server crash.

  13. Haven't played my SV/BM hunter or frost/unholy DK since the beginning of Shadowlands. My DK looks really fun to play (being able to fight while on horseback? Heck yeah.) On the other hand, my SV hunter looks restricted to Pack Leader, which… is a major nothingburger. Nothing changed at all with these hero talents. Pack Leader definitely should have had an ability that increased the size of your pet and made it glow, while doing spectral strikes and also giving your strikes the same appearance or something. Or possibly taken some inspiration from GW2 soulbeast mode, and merged you and your pet, with your pet's spirit surrounding you for several seconds (their shadow/shape expanding around you) and letting out devastating strikes as one being.

Hero talents really should have been open to all specs and not restricted. Would have been amazing for a blood DK to ride on horseback into battle, or for a marksmanship hunter to be able and summon their own soulbeast as they let out devastating strikes from afar.

  14. Only two characters to max so far: Goblin Mage (Frost/Frostfire) and Dreanai Paladin (Prot (mostly) & Ret/Templar). My mage struggles a bit, but that always happens early expansion, mage really needs good gear to feel powerful. I will note that a lot of solo content, like Delves, have seen her struggle a lot due to the lack of someone who can play as aggro focus for her. Really, our buddy there needed a tank spec (just let one of his pets play tank for us or something). Protodin, on the other had, feels damned near unkillable. She's slow to kill, but rarely does her health ever dip under half even when fighting Elites (so long as they aren't group required enemies). Despite the expansion starting with Dalaran and early on seeming like it was going to mostly be a tale of magic and high sorcery, quickly turned to feel more about other things. There is a LOT here for Paladin/Priest types to dig into (and the Hallowfall gear is chef's kiss perfect for Paladins) lore wise as well, as the whole Arathi thing seems custom tailored for them. I really dig the Earthen representation too, they 'feel' better than the usual Dorfs we get, tho it does feel weird to see them in Ogrimmar. That said, I never cared for the Dorf animations, so I'm having trouble wanting to PLAY as one. As an unlockable race, despite the awesome lore around them, feels very underwhelming.

  15. I'm glad this expansion isn't a dud, but after 14 years of WoW overlapping three of FFXIV, I can say the crafting component of FFXIV is so much better that no other game can compete, and Wow's is so awful atm that it's not even on the ballot.

  16. I tired to play WoW again after moving on but it kept triggering my PTSD. All the drama and toxic players that I thought I used to just shrug off but that wasn't really what was happening kept coming back to haunt me like little imps that just wouldn't go away. People still kick others from groups for minor mistakes. Guilds like entire herds of drama lamas. I just couldn't do it.

Even if the game has changed the community hasn't change enough for me to want to go back.

I was a world first raider and that left some deep scares. I got to see what was happening behind the curtains and realized what the devs where actually doing. I just can't. Once you've seen it, you can't unsee it.

  17. It's insane to me how low people standards are for good story telling and gameplay in WoW tbh, the positive reception of TWW's campaign if anything just shows how low the standards have fallen after Shadowlands…
The dialogue writing in cutscenes especially is just awful and extreme cliche.

  18. Far as the Horde representation go we're either going to see a lot more pressence in the patch content, or definitely Midnight given that Quel'Thalas will feature prominently.
