FFXIV Player Tries Lost Ark for 500 Hours | MY HONEST THOUGHTS

Final Fantasy XIV is BAD. Lost Ark is SO GOOD. Did you see that Johnny Depp trial? Whoa, what’s going on over on TikTok?! ICE CREAM SO GOOD. Dawntrail? More like YAWNTRAIL. Who cares about Blitzchung, anyway? Remember that? Remember Blitzchung? Of course you don’t. What’s a Hong Kong, by the way? Who cares?! FINAL FANTASY XIV is GOOD, Lost Ark is SO BAD.

SOCIAL MEDIA: lmao. lol.

I make all of the music you hear on the channel.

  1. I can't agree with the statement "FFXIV's not fighting for my time is just as bad as Lost Ark's endless demand for it", there is absolutely zero positive to having a game demand almost 1k hours as a free to play in hopes of chasing a carrot to increase your damage a smidge so you can participate in all the content, and then experience being cut out from most groups because payers will ALWAYS be far ahead of you and have ZERO incentive to put up with playing with fresh raiders and wasting their time. Games have no business trying to take over your life and it's beyond my comprehension how anyone could try and argue for that design choice, much less think it equivalent to one that remembers you have more important shit to do than spend your life on meaningless number chases.

I have double your hours on Lost Ark and I understand there's a zen mode feeling to going through the same bullshit in hopes of some RNG simulator to finally grant the tiny carrot because the act of PLAYING Lost Ark is dope, but let's not try and pretend it's anything more than a factory job that expects you to pay for working there. This is NOT good game design in any way shape or form, it's nothing but an incentive to get you to spend thousands upon thousands on a single fucking game so you can finally play in the damn raids. This design is a cancer in the gaming space and the only reason Lost Ark isn't as massively successful as it could have been, which is a damn shame because the actual gameplay itself is easily among the best mmos have to offer right now. You skipped over so much side grind necessary to maxing out your character too, it's worse than how you portrayed it in this video. If I never look at any sort of card again in my life it'd somehow be too soon.

I have 9000 hours into FFXIV and yes, I hate the fact EW doesn't have Bozja to keep me enthralled for 2 and a half months and has the most mid system in Island Sanctuary being as deep as a rain puddle, and Criterion being the dungeon experience I wanted but zero reason to ever do it because they were too lazy to put any rewards of worth in there. I stopped caring about savage raiding because it doesn't matter what the boss looks like because you're going to repeat the same mechanics you've been doing for years already. I am strictly there for the music at this point which I just hear from NM anyway. Yet I have that many hours because the amount of casual content 14 has is quite frankly staggering, and was more than enough to hold my attention for an unhealthy amount of time before I decided I was bored and quit until DT comes out. 14 can use a chase, a middle ground between way too easy it's not engaging and repeat raid mechanics every 3 months, something new and not just the same patch content cycles we're used to. Lost Ark needs a whole progression revamp entirely but as you said, it's more of a money laundering machine than game.

  2. The main problem here (about the story/narrative) is that you try to compare it to ff xiv and say ff xiv is better, which is not true, both, lost ark and final fantasy xiv, are garbage if we are talking about story.

  3. I never understood this sentiment, 'I like you so you should make me play more, and if you don't I'll somehow like you less.'. In addition if they add elements that make you log in even if it's less than Lost Ark it still is no longer the game that doesn't make you log in. I tried Lost Ark, it's game design is not for me, I didn't ask it to change, I let it be what it is for those who like it for what it is.

  4. I agree with most of the critique but i find it hard to hear you have 500 hours and 80 bucks in the game and you have only made it to valtan. With all the catch up mechanics in the game id like to hear your follow up feelings after experiencing more raids. Its truly the focal point in the current status of the game. Great video!

  5. a honest review without screeching about some sort of paywall for the whole video, AND its coming from a FFXIV player? crazy.

As someone who played 3k hours and stopped cause of university, I do wish the game was as forgiving as FFXIV sometimes. Itd be cool to be able to login once a month just to do the newest raid with the homies. You cant really do that here.

  6. As someone who started playing mmos from MU online(subsribtion model in china) to cabal online(f2p). I do think lost ark is one of the best f2p mmos. Its something i wish came out when i was in highschool. But i am old now and cant spend that much time on gaming anymore.

I really enjoyed the fact that almoat abything you do in the game helps progress ur charater in some type of way. As a day 1 player it didnt borther me. But i cant imagine new player who are propelled to end game having to do all the collectables while the game is telling you to go raid raid raid.

Recently came back to the game after quiting before brel nm came out. Having alot of fun right now. Sneaked into a brel 1-2 reclear beqcuse it was so easy, did a learning party for g3 and cleared. And did a learning party for kangel and cleared. And recently cleared brel g4 nm by hosting a learning party for 6 hours. Having alot fun right now mainly becaused i saved up 250k gold before i quit. Idk how new players are making gold right now lol.

  7. As a LA vet, I agree with pretty much all of this. But if you take horizontal progress pretty slow and take a step back from giga juicing your characters the game is very casual friendly with the rest system. But if you're a sweaty fomo induced type raider then you'll probably never let yourself get there lmao.

  8. I agree with basically everything you said. Lost Ark is a great game that suffers from being run by gacha devs, but its been making strides to become better. The Amazon localization job was done horribly though. The 1 thing I always find the most interesting is how polarizing honing is. The same people who think honing is the worst progression system ever are usually perfectly ok farming 1 mob for a 3% drop rate for 1 armor piece in others rpgs. Something about seeing the odds right in your face must have a very different effect on people.

  9. Hey I’m wondering if you’ve ever tried GW2? I’m debating whether or not to get into gw2 or back into lost ark (only got like 20-30 hrs played on LA). For me what bummed me out about lost ark was that although there are a ton of different things to do to progress, it really just felt like i was doing a ton of different things to make one number go up. Which is what every other player is doing as well to the point where I just felt like a cog in a numbers machine and the only difference between me and other players is our class. But GW2 seems like there are a lot of different things to do, to actually achieve and acquire different things. I really love the action combat of lost ark and I hate tab target, but since GW2 seems like a hybrid I might try it out.

  10. The problem I had while leveling up was just soo boring. Mobs cant kill u in the open world part of the maps. U can go afk for 5 mins, come back and you'll still have 80% life. Combat means nothing if u do one skill, killing the mob out right. Dungeons while lvling is also no point, u go solo without having to realy try in them too. I lost so much interest at that point i went back to GW2 and ffxiv.

  11. FFXIV veteran for 3 years. The moment I touch lost ark, I forgot to update FFXIV client. Believe or not. For raider there's literally nothing to do in FFXIV after ultimate.

  12. The fact that this thoughts video only covers up to the, imo, 'good part' of the game (valtan and valtan hm) really tells a lot. After valtan, vykass is much more annoying to learn and even post that, clown and brel just weren't fun for me. Partly due to the difficulty and partly due to me just not having a static group to run with. As for honing, I see that beautiful 2.5%, yea thats high for later in the game…

  13. 12:03 What you said here is one of the best mindsets a player can have to improve in this game, and not many players have it. In fact, most players don't have it and that's why they don't output their best dmg, they can't do certain things other people can do such as solo stagger in Kakul Saydon's Raid.

  14. I mean you are comparing a horizontal """""""subscription""""""" game like FF14 to a vertical """""""F2P"""""" game like Lost Ark. There is obviously going to be a grind that never ends, that is the point of the game. If you take any other f2p mmo like maplestory etc you will also be grinding a lot and probably swiping even more.

Honestly the p2w is not that bad in lost ark because to even achieve whale status you don't spend hundredths here but thousands. It isn't even worth it to swipe for the minimal gains you get, everything can be cleared and achieved f2p besides Esther weapons but those cost like 50k usd so even most whales dont go for it. That is megalodon territory.

This review in my opinion wasn't fair and skewed with your rose tinted ff14 goggles. You are trying to make this game be ff14 and fundamentally it never will. Most people like me play it for the combat and raids.

  15. From someone who spent 10x the time in Lost Ark as the video creator, few points:
    – Yes, the game has many flaws (honing, the thing he talked about, is totally fine compared to other stuff in the game btw).
    – It has the best and most exciting combat gameplay of any game I've ever played.
    – Even though you can buy power, you can never trivialize the game or get a big unfair advantage. Even the biggest whale will have to learn the mechanics and will be one-shot killed if they can't play.
    – To fully enjoy the game some "light spending" is recommended. Think like as much as any mmo subscription. It's mostly convenience and some juicy deals from time to time that give you lots of progression materials for very little money. But you can absolutely enjoy the endgame without spending anything. You get there like a week later – that's it.

  17. The fact that you liked horizontal content is great! Most people just hate to do it but i had lot's of fun and it's very rewarding. Since i played it from the beggining i maxed a lot of it and it feels good. Mokoko Seeds are indeed adctive.

Now, as for the honning content, the game provides A LOT of materials from daily, weekly and event content, so you can choose to use it all in one character or spread it across your rooster characters, and i think it's kind of fair. Eventually you'll catch up in the current endgame.

About being p2w i TOTALLY disagree. I cannot see how a game that is 90% about PvE could be P2W, especially when i have a character that is currently 1600+ and i have charged about 40 bucks in the game to buy Cristalline Aura twice (that i don't use anymore because i learned to play without) and two character slots (that i regret because i don't even play with the 2 characters that i bought it for). As for any PvP content that you could be "behind" believe me, i only fought a Whale (cash players) Guild once and they lost because we were better at PvP then they. ANNNND there's some GvG content where your ilvl is irrelevant.

if there's one thing i learned over all the years i played RPG/MMOs is that there's a difference among what you want, what you think you need and what you ACTUALLY need. You don't have to loose your mind to achieve some ilvl, just enjoy the process, that's what RPGs are about.

  18. john lost ark hahaha you're right. Honestly my biggest gripe with Kadan is that during the entire story line he went "…sorry i won't tell you what i'm going to do" then fucks off for three whole continents and remain oh so mysterious.

good review tho, lost ark respects your time if you're a single char enjoyer, trust :^)
