I have no words. All these changes are straight bad, and on top of this it is a 3dps loss according to Boxer from the Balance. Regardless, we lost way too many things, which include:
-dopamine on our big hits
-kaiten animation
-tenka goken changed to be even more braindead because it makes it easier for people who do DGNS
-3% dps loss under buffs in math changes rn
-worst in crit comp groups
-reduction of skill ceiling to time Third eye properly

The shape change, yea maybe it’s a bit more braindead, but I don’t think making it “we’ve reduced its cone size to 25% to increase your targeting technique requirement” will make you feels less braindead/skill challenging? and be happy either
I quite agree with other stuff you mention, but for that one I think it’s just a QoL change and not something to make you sound extremely upset and “What the heck” about
I don't know why they are nerfing jobs that are purely player vs AI. Yea those guaranteed crit moves make it easier to balance the damage variance of jobs but still, if this is the approach they are taking to balance jobs, game will be boring at some point.
Also it makes no sense doing things such as this one imo because at least for the people that play this game from a competitive perspective, it takes that away from those.
Furthermore, the cool thing about this game is having some unique things on each different jobs to mix and match the party comp to get different results. Like i don't know if they still keep that in mind. There would be some meta comps that function better on some especific scenarios, but since every job can clear all the content, removing stuff and reducing potencies isn't the solution.

I did a mistake of not grinding extra tomes, so even if my Ult static funds me 2 weeks of gear for my NIN i wont make it before Ult. I am staying SAM for prog yea. Probably won't have as much fun as before (?) Idk yet. I won't tell anyone who loves the job to quit it. We are sad about it yes. But unless you play for speed meta, SAM is still going to be good for clearing and progging.
This was going to happen eventually, we saw at the beginning of Endwalker that they were cleaning up buff windows and the like.
Square has realised that they can’t make the classes more complicated for the casual players and now they have hit the point where they have to prune.
I can’t imagine that next expansion, they add more then 1 button to each class.
Absolutely no skilled Sam devs, all this lowering skillfloor and subtle nerfs making me quit Sam for good now. Watch after this week post patch, these "guarantees crits" will just be the same, if not even LOWER dps numbers probably.
Guess time to do what they said on the liveletter for us, go onto ffxiv fourms and cry. Then in 6.2 they'll probably finish butchering the job to death.
You forgot kaiten's 25 genki is now a flat 250 potency shinten, so as long as you don't use kaeshi it actually is a buff.
I just can agree to the video in every single point. In my opinion SAM was a job you could play casual all the time. It just had the potential to get really good and also had a little tricky elements to keep aware of for players that want to invest time into it. A DPS with the potential to invest time – still a good DPS if only played casual. Imo the changes here all are resolving in a Job with less potential to dive into. Kinda "heres your Katana, bonk that enemy".
Welp, there goes all my hype for 6.1. Guess I'll just go back to Elden Ring.

sadly these changes just make the job more braindead. dmg difference is only 3dps in raw dps and 3% in raidbuff in a crit comp. overall it wasnt a nerf nor a buff. Since Stable dmg output > fluctuating dmg output sadly. So its a buff for casual content players but a nerf for high level skilled sams like us. Might need to play with it during the ally raid or for my weekly reset to really feel how it feels. Sam was a fun class because of its crit luck. Hopefully in future changes they bring back kaiten. Told my static that i'll play drg for dsw since we have a really high raid buff group with high dps potential. We'll see when servers are live how boring sam is now.
………..as much ppl want to get upset over SAM changes. You have to remind yourself, this game is designed for EVERYONE, that is the goal hence why they are making it simpler and more easier to get into the class/es. Tenka Goken changes……..just accept that SE wants to get rid of cone abilities and it's not a bad thing. It just makes it in line with other AoE abilites in SAM's toolkit. This isn't new for FF14, this been around for a long time. If a ability is a guaranteed crit, it's going to get nerfed no matter what. If it happens then everyone will play SAM as the meta and players know it, don't deny it or lie about it.
Kaeshi: Goken………meh. I can't see SAM players get upset over this since it's mainly used for CC, not that important.
Kaeshi: Setsugekka…….it make sense. Kaiten/Midare: S was pretty much the same potency as Kaeshi: S. If they kept the same potency and made it a 100% crit, it would've been WAY too strong. Nope nope, can't have that so it had to get nerfed for that very reason.
Shoha nerf……..I get why. Since Ogi/Kaeshi: Namikiri is a 100% crit and gives instant 3 stacks to use Shoha, it would make SAM a bit too strong from other melee classes.
Ogi/Kaeshi: Namikiri nerf…….100% crit, instant nerf on potency to balance the other melee classes.
I can see SAM still being a strong melee class overall. It just now the new melds will be majority direct hit and determination so nothing is lost, but we'll see once the game releases and ppl do some ACT/fflog tests.

I don't understand the logic… they even said in the live letter that if its weaker they'll buff it next patch but what is this "if it's weaker" bs? They make the damn game ffs. They can tell if something is going to be weaker just by testing it out. Or are we to assume that they arbitrarily throw potency reductions and increases at a wall and see what sticks? The entire Samurai class play style revolves around two major abilities in EW: Midare and Ogi. They have to know that is not going to be well received, the guaranteed crit is fine but kaiten is or was I suppose, a 50% FIFTY PERCENT increase to the potency of a WS. A guaranteed crit in no way justifies the nerf and the removal of that. Rant over
I dont think any REAL sam mains would like lowering of potency on moves for any reason. WE LIKE BIG NUMBERS. Reading the Japanese forums and a lot of users arent happy kaiten is being removed either. This is a ridiculous move by square enix. NOBODY ASKED FOR THIS.
Way to go, just grab a Job that's on a good spot and rip it to shreds for absolutely no reason, i'll just go Reaper/Monk instead, at least until they undo this absolute train wreck, that is if they ever do. Cause from what i've seen Japanese bros just couldn't care less.
I agree, I'm worried they're just simplifying everything and they're also taking put stuff that made jobs play different in each role. SAM changes I hate, I don't main it but I do main SCH and the crits are frustrating when we also got hit on Expedient for no reason. It makes no sense to do this to SAM, it's supposed to be conplex, that was the whole point and why it was up there with BLM and MNK for top DPS but it feels less and less justified, it's like when RPR was top DPS, the easy jobs should be playable but long time players want jobs they actually have to learn and put effort into that also have a big pay off for mastering. I do not like this.
I literally bought the damn game just to play samurai 1 month ago. Finally mastered dancing it in savage raid with top dmg output consistantly and now you do this? God damn i don't ask for this
