  2. hope someone can relay this to mike, but a really cool but subtle detail in elpis that shows emet-selch's true nature and feelings. in elpis, every single person who we talk to immediately identifies us as some sort of familiar. indicating that in the eyes of a true ancient we are clearly not a person/human to them. but in emets recreation of amaurot, the ancient shades think we are a child/children. as that place was creation of emets mind. so for all his talk of our meaningless and worthless existence in the face of the "true race" he actually did view us as his people, even if he didnt want to admit it.

  3. I've said this before elsewhere, but Elpis is the biggest narrative gamble in FF14 and I don't know if I've seen anything like it before.

    In the space of a handful of hours, the writers had to juggle 5 separate characters and make us care about them. The failure to handle that correctly would have greatly damaged the story. They were able to firmly establish not only those characters, but even the wider culture of the Ancients.

    And Venat is such a good character, imo. Genuinely one of my favorite female characters in gaming, and possibly in fiction as a whole. The writers were able to have her embody the concept of being a parent (in particular a mother) without it coming across as stale or trite. She knew that doing the Sundering would create harm, but she went through with it because of the hope she had that people would still persevere. And even though she spent millennia suffering both intense physical and emotional pain, she continued to move forward in order to lend what assistance she could.

  5. I like to think that Meteion represents the inevitable demise of Ascians as a race.
    Their trajectory of extinction was already set in stone because the highest honour for them was dying. Eventually, all of their work would be done and they would return to the star, leaving no one behind. Hermes even said as much.

    Instead of obtaining a sense of mastery, essentially, she realized how much she doesn't know. Saw the world through a newborn's eyes. Beginner's Mind.

    Dispelled all preconceptions of what was natural and true. Felt and connected to a greater universe, felt how connected, yet small a part of it she was.

  12. Just imagine for a moment if this writing team from FFXIV could have written the World of Warcraft story… Just imagine! I love FFXIV and I love World of Warcraft… When I played through the story and the realization of what Hydalyn is, where she came from, the sacrifice of Venat and that she walked an eternity with us…
    Man, I just wonder what this writing team could have done for someone like Elune. How they could have sparked our imagination more than what it already is and how this writing team would make everything pay-off… Instead we have the speculation that the most beloved and mysterious entity in all of WoW is now believed to be a 'robot' the 'sister' of the Eternal Winter Queen, whom we now know is a robot!
    I am so glad I played the entire FFXIV story, It has been such a pleasure and honor to have experienced that with this community… at the same time, it creates a sadness deep down in my heart that I know the World of Warcraft story could be so incredible, yet, those in charge of creating the world, developing the characters and moving the story forward are so incompetent, they have done more to destroy it than develop it.
    It breaks my heart.

  13. As reaper 1:15:00 i was panicking when orbs started keep gettinf more i think i got 99% and barley survived her attack
    Edit: im sad see preach not do the monster sidequest in elpis…it such funny joke/realization
