  1. Most addon's are against TOS, but Gshade has been ok'd on the forums since it doesn't affect w/game play. I just started using it myself since I found that out. I started playing not long after Heavensward came out so, if I'm honest I could do w/o the gshade. 😀 And I agree that it's a bit confusing at first. I'm glad you are enjoying the game and you are close to the end of the main story of ARR. You will have the patches between ARR and Heavensward that were put out. 🙂

  2. Just wait 'til you realize almost all the "filler" stuff is actually relevant. 🙂

Good on you to make a point to pay attention and take your time despite the urge to try and play "catch up" for the new expansion. Looking forward to more content fom you. 😀

  3. Enjoying mine, still in ARR doing sides or dungeons, though my black mage is already 52. kind of fun taking time, not rushing through every single content because I know at some point I'll catch up with the latest release.

    Now leveling crafting and gladiator.

  4. In general, no add-on are really required to play the game.
The 2 most used are Gshade and ACT (dps meter… see below).
For ACT, at your level, not even worth thinking or even discussing 😉
In general, the game is low on add-on since they already try to put all those type of configuration in the options.
There is some great way to use the extra action bars with macro (I did a search with "ff14 job macro" on YT and got good recommendations)
I would focus more your attention to macros over add-on in general.
S-E are trying to give as much possible tool so the PS4-PS5 players aren't at disavantages vs PC (and I can say, playing with a controller on my computer, the PC, they did a great job)

In the meanwhile, enjoy the game and no rush! All the content will wait for you 🙂

  5. I would recommend, at some point, that you set up Advanced Combat Tracker (ACT). this lets you track your DPS in game & set up an overlay. You're not really allowed to use it to judge other people for their damage (very much a "it's okay so long as you don't talk about it" deal as Square doesn't officially condone add-ons).
For a self-improvement tool, it is excellent to know if you're playing your job right, and in endgame it's a good means to help you adjust your rotation to specific fights.

Overall a useful tool that you should use, but use responsibly.
That being said, eventually you get access to specific training dummies for various fights in the game that if you are able to kill them in three minutes, you are doing enough damage for that fight.
So that's a good way to tell if you're doing well without ACT.

  6. Just a heads up… Each expansion in FF14, ARR included, has post release story based on it's 5 patches. So once you have done ARR you have a whole nother story to go through leading into heavenward… The typical cadence is that the full story for an expansion doesn't conclude until X.3 and X.4, .5, and .55 prologue into the next expansion. Overall it's best to look at things as a continuous story as there really isn't a "this expac is done onto the next" mentality and plotlines will often carry over.

  7. Mostly the last 5 or so job quests leading to 50 will give you a full set of armor for that job. I think for you to get Dark knight you will have to have started Heavensward, also you must have a job at level 50 as well, Dark knight once unlocked starts at level 30, Ninja starts as rogue so that’s level 1 you could get it as soon as you want to after you get your starting class to level 10 or 15 really can’t remember all to clearly. But really glad to see you taking your time and really enjoying yourself, with so much content in this game. As a means to help level try using your hunting log, if you don’t have it ask a friend about it. The challenge log also helps. Make sure you always have the food buff on for an extra 3% exp bonus, then there are gear items that also can help with leveling ( ask a friend for more info.) I think that’s all I can help out with just going off this one video. As for if I use any mods or add-ons that is no because I play the game on PS4/ PS5. But I am also sure only things like Gshade are allowed to be use with out breaking ToS. I maybe wrong, others might know more. Well that’s all from me take care and stay safe.

  8. Tbh I’ve been playing since arr launched and I haven’t even tried gshade, most locations get better graphically later on into expansions but I can’t deny that it makes it look smoother and more detailed.

  9. I know that DMB based add on are frown upon due to people "flexing" their DPS and being toxic about it.

And I'll be honest I think that's for the better since it will make you focus more on the mechanics of the game rather than your "Big D*CK DPS" and die from dodgeable AOE.
