  2. Dear Synodic Scribe my head recently hurts from 1 kind of lore that confuses me the most and overwhelmed me when I first started playing FFXIV and that is technology in FFXIV. We have swords, shiels, axes, medieval structures but on the other hand we have cyborgs, imperial bases with red LED lamps and alarms, flying ships, flying cyborgs, guns, rifles, cannons, etc… What confuses me here is why is there such a split in development, where does technology come from? I recently unlocked the machinist and levelled till 50 + did the questline and here we have even drones and a cyborg we can summon to fight alongside us. I know what I am about to ask will be a very difficult video to make and maybe take you eternity but is there any way you could make a video or documentary about technology in FFXIv, perhaps the whole of Final Fantasy. Especially as a new player this can be confusing too see 2 ages meet each other in 1 era. hahaha

  3. I can understand how red mages use only their own aether for black magic, making it more like thaumaturgy than black magic, but doesn't white magic inherently use ambient aether? I thought the whole essence of white magic and conjury was the use of ambient aether by using the power of the elementals? So how can red mages use white magic using only their own aether?

  4. I only watched 1 video so far and I think I’m already in love with this channel. Ffxiv lore is so under appreciated. Probably already one of my fav ffxiv channels now!

I love those "what it means to be…" series!
Looking forward to "What it means to be a Bard"! Love the class in general, but I wanted to know more about it in Eorzea.

    Great content, thank you!

  6. A small request. I would love to see a video on warriors. Why aren't they called berzerkers? Why do their eyes glow red? Its a simple job but there's gotta be something more to them then just swinging an axe around and shouting.

  7. Here’s what it means to be a Red Mage:

You’re the absolute best person to have around in a crisis, and will save the day more times than can be counted, but still won’t get any Player Commendations.

(For the record, I’m closing in on 4,000 comms, it’s just nice to be acknowledged for a job well done is all.)

  8. As a RL martial artist, and seeing what I garnered/assumed from the in-game presentation on Red Mage in FFXIV, I am very surprised how close I was.

I am really curious where you found your sources on some of the stories and how it all worked. Not to test if you're wrong, but I've scoured the internet and couldn't really find much before I found this video!

Well done! 😀 Thumbs up from me.

  9. I may be a bit late, but i want to say i am SO thankful for this video. I've been looking around for lore on mages and ways of casting magic for RP purposes in FF, and yours is the first video i've found on the subject that actually goes in depth on not just the mentality of the job, but the way it functions as well! Thanks to you my character might not become a true red mage, but she might find ways to finally use magic despite her small mana pool with the methods of the red mages!

  10. At around your 14 minute mark, the focus rests on the sword's pommel, not hilt. Very glad you made this video. I guess some part of me missed the fact that they only ever relied upon their own aether for their spells, and I wonder what you would make of that in conjunction with the WHM questline in regards to Sylphie.

  11. Looking forward to hearing about Sage. I'm very pleased with the growth of Lore videos on youtube in general. I felt like back when I started there was so few resources to learn (prior to ShB). Keep at it!

  12. 2:00 – I need to go back and check, but I'm curious: For the cutscenes where a healer gets a special scene (where they get to take part in healing, "What are you standing around for?! Well? You're a HEALER, aren't you?!") if RDM's also get the healing scene or the DPS one?

Either way, the ability to cure/raise AND be a full time DPS is absolutely amazing. I hate DPSing in general, but if I do, I have to go SMN or RDM. I just can't stand the idea of healers being down and that equaling an automatic wipe. If only there was a Vermilion Medica…

I wonder, lorewise, if the balance of Mana is to reflect a desire to not unbalance the world's Aether again. That is, even using one's own Aether, what caused the calamity (well, and also the Ascians on one of the other Shards…) was using many aspects of magic, but not using Water much. This led to Water being too abundant, and when the Shard collapsed into the Source, leading to the Calamity of the flood. I've never heard that mentioned, but I wonder…

Though I most note, there is a RDM master (who gets tempered) and apprentice (who saves him) in Bozja. The second Bozja zone has, I believe, three FATE's related to their storyline.

Love this series so far from what I've seen of it here. I kinda wonder what the history of Arcanism is. I know Thamaturgy is a form of Black Magic that also uses the limit of only one's own Aether (and Conjury White Magic, though in that case, with the Elementals' blessing…slash/Aether?) But Arcanism is different, using glyphs and sacred geometry instead. They seem to be literal Mathmagicians, though I'm not 100% certain.

…and, it's notable that Ninjutsu functions on a similar premise, using hand signs to mimic this magical geometry. I THINK, anyway. I believe that's why when you futz up your Ninjutsu, you end up with discount Carbuncle sitting on your head. 😀

  13. Quite interesting!

Just thinking as well about the VERsions of Black and White magic used by the Red Mages, it seems that the usual damage over time (or the lingering spells) Aero and Thunder seem to be more focused and precise rather than lingering, which probably meant that all the pain these spells wrought would be dealt at the briefest moment post-incantation.

Also kind of noticed that while VERspells are flashy and such, these are very localised and seems to be concentrated in a smaller area (as compared to the vanilla schools' magicks, though that may change a tiny bit with EW changes on the finishers becoming AoE).

Not sure if that is actually the case though and I would be glad if I'd be enlightened or corrected.

  14. Wow. I've been playing since RR and I had no idea Ver was short for Vermillion. I thought it was some latin derivative. My static raid pld used to call Ver-flare discount flare lmao.
