  1. I posit that they nerfed the echo to explain why the ancients can get memory wiped by kairos/ the whole exposure to high energy burst of aether. But what throws a wrench in that is how Hades himself said they got tempered by Zodiark only to get contradicted by Livingway. Prior to that revelation many and myself assumed that because they made a god out of unsundered ancients his overwhelming might/will was enough to overcome there's. HELL Zenos himself said right before merging with Shinryu that the echo was a manifestation of a persons will/influence. And then we have the resonance and I get even more confused are we now to assume/understand that the story is saying that Zenos had an ancient's spell copied?

  2. You asked us to think! But what about hearing and feeling? :0

Also I totally forgot about Gaia in that question. Which is a crying shame because she was a best girl :3

  3. My personal opinion is that the blessing of light was the occasional bone thrown our way but that the echo is a phenomenon available to people with …. meatier souls than normal people. I’m thinking of Arenvald and Fordola here too.

When described, our soul seems to burn brightly, shining magnitudes brighter than others. Which is to be expected as we’ve personally been rejoined, but even before that I feel there were voidsent who commented about the state of our souls. Not to mention the insane doctor (can’t remember his name) who literally tears our souls out of our bodies and then is amazed at our personal readings.

We know by that point the doctor had already experimented with infusing the soul with more aether than it already had, hence his ability to give the Resonance to Fordola and Zenos. I think that souls that are naturally abundant will develop abilities that allow them to interact with the aetherial plane based on how overwhelming that soul is compared to the most powerful aetherial disturbance in said place. It’s like when we recall the memories of a specific place it’s bc our soul is so large it seeps into the very world and connects with the residue automatically sometimes (the forced blackouts/cutscenes).

I think the others have the echo to such a weaker extent simply bc they aren’t as dense as us. Krile hasn’t been rejoined and her soul doesn’t belong to the convocation of 14, so her naturally stronger soul gives her the echo but nowhere near the full clarity of our own.

  4. I do have a question to ask, if that’s okay!

How can we WoL travel to Elpis at will? I thought what remained of Elidibus was our one-way ticket to the far past, and after completing the MSQ quests there, nothing was clarified aside that “both times are connected now”.
(Makes me wonder about G’raha’s altered future and if the tower is still connected by it as well)

  5. My questions contain spoilers for EW.

Hey Synodic, ide like to know your opinion about 2 posts i came across on reddit regarding Meteion. The first has to do with the Bard HW questline about the song of oblivion. Does that and Meteion's song of oblivion have any relation? My 2nd question goes all the way to the very end of the Crystal tower questline in ARR, right after Nero thorws his device and walks off, you can hear these weird sounds from the crystal tower. Some decrypted it using morse code and it came back as "Its all wrong" which is what Meteion started ranting about. What are your thoughts about this.

  6. Hello, Scribe. Bit of a lurker here and actually a very new member of the FFXIV community.

I wanted to address what I believe to be my understanding between the Echo and the Blessing of Light. Naturally, spoilers for everyone reading it. But since you clicked on a video that was already spoiler-y, well…

    Moving on:

All right, so… In Elpis, Venat identifies the spell cast upon us as one of her own making called the 'traveler's ward', which prevents the corruption of one's aether. However, in the same cutscene, she identifies it but never really says if she cast it upon herself during her travels—which could mean that the Ancients do have aetheric density enough to resist aetheric corruption.

In my own mind, I feel like the Echo does still have a part to play, and the Blessing of Light's 'traveler's ward' is simply a redundancy or a reinforcement to ensure that the Echo will hold, and that the traveler's ward was created by Venat after becoming Hydaelyn given the diminished aetheric capacity of the people in the Source and the reflections.

It may even be that the people of the Source who awakened to the Echo in the early days (First Astral Era to a certain point) had to rely more heavily upon the traveler's ward, and thus it became a staple—even though future Echo-bearers in the present time might be able to resist aetheric corruption/tempering by the Echo alone due to being 7/14ths our Ancient selves.

Now, the theory above, I considered because of the comments and discussions here. My original idea was that every Echo-bearer who awakens to it are provided a link to Hydaelyn (through her words "Hear, Feel, Think") and are thus bequeathed a traveler's ward. I visually consider this to be the magical circle that we see in the vision cutscenes, and the Blessing of Light is when the Echo-bearer is bestowed a crystal of Light, just like the six that we collect and are summarily shut down by Midgardsormr. The crystals dim, but the magical circle remains.

Anyway, those are my two alternative takes. I love your videos, man. They're my go-to for FFXIV lore, so keep on making them

  7. In my opinion the reason why Elidibus picked up those two specific crystals was because it connects back to what we previously seen in a vision of two members of the convocation telling him to put down his work and see that they were blessed with another beautiful day and his final words in that moment echoed that statement. I think we can assume that those two ancients were Laha and iggy?

  8. What I was wondering since a while now. What exactly is the relation between the Ultima Weapon, Ultima the high seraph (Last boss of orbonne) and the spell Ultima (and also the heart of sabik, but that particular mystery will likely never be answered…)? And what exactly is Ultima the high seraph even? I have a vague recollection that it's some sort of alien being not native to etherys?

  9. So I think the bigger problem with the whole blessing of light vs echo problem is less recon, which definitely happened and doesn't help. But rather than the lore we get if from people and history that didn't know the truth either. The warrior of light has 3 abilities that seem completely distinct. 1 the echo, 2 protection from tempering, 3 the ability to channel and store vast amounts of light elemental aether. The blessing of light that only the warrior of light should have would then refer to the third ability but as it was parred with the other 2 and people with just the first 2 would most likely be overshadowed in history. The history and the lore missed the real blessing. It is said that the spell that blocks tempering is very simple so it would not be unlikely that it was simply given to everyone how heard hydalins call when they unlocked the echo. This would explain why people think they are liked. People with artificial echo copied the aether pathways of someone who had it and the spell protecting them from tempering. As the purpose of the experiment was to give aether manipulation to garleans it would make sense to copy everything and end up with both rather than just the one.

  10. A bit of a correction regarding the starshower thing: it was shown that the people turned before the starshower. The meteors only seem to appear when enough of the blasphemies have congregated in a single area, their dynamis-heavy influence causing the atmosphere to warp and causing meteors to appear out of nowhere in the upper atmosphere as shown in the Amarout dungeon. This technically is consistent with Emet's and Hythlodaeus's account because the first thing they say happened was the keening sound. That sound is what sent the people in disarray and corrupted their creation magicks, leading to that chain reaction.

  11. On the echo/BoL conundrum. He echo is referred by Elidibus as the amber's of the powers of the ancients so the reaches of it are nearly boundless. Zenos tells us that the echo allows us to impose our will over others cause our influence is stronger. And you yourself have mentioned this power of transcendence. Even when midgardsormr takes the BoL away you are protected cause your influence is stronger then the primal's and you are "blessed" by the 1st dragon (dragons being resistant to tempering and all that) Elidibus also made it clear that everyone with the echo received the BoL so that's why people thought it was the echo that protected people. Now I don't disagree with you that it became messy. I'm just trying to have the whole thing make a little more sense.

More interesting to me however is the idea of, if Venat has died, does the magic she waved on us is gone too? It's a fact that we used up the creation magic she gave us in azem's crystal at the end of Endwalker to reconstitute Hades and hythlodeus and then bring back the scions (whence the "may you ever walk in the light…") But never is it implied that the warding spell is wearing off. And talking of the spell they do say it's purpose is to prevent corruption but that doesn't necessarily is it's only effect.

  12. Hi Scribe, love your stuff, keep it up 👍🏽

In relation to the questions of what happened the memories of those at Carteneau.

    **EW spoiler**

I believe they explained this during old sharlan forum and the lv87 dungeon, specially about how Kairos works. So going by what we learned, I believe that the memories of those in that battle was affected by the sheer amount of aether in the area had an effect on people memories. But that’s just my take. Again, love your stuff, keep it up 👍🏽

  13. I'm curious on what your thoughts on lb being tied to dynamis is. During the last trial the boss reacts to your group surviving the wipe when tank lb3 is used seemingly surprised by it. I didn't notice the line during my playthrough and I think only one person and their group caught it from everyone I watched and pointed it out.

Edit: something else I just thought about is how much scarier can a DRK become if they used said power considering they already use emotion to drive a lot of their strengths.

  14. The Echo was tempering, we came into contact with an elder primal just like the Acsians.
The Blessing of light was a blessing of empowerment from our primal.
    Now she is gone…what next.

  15. i was going through some old ARR cutscenes the other day in relation to the retcon of the echo and noticed that in our first encounter with ifrit hints being warned about those protected by “her” blessing and again with garuda after an attempted tempering the wol stops her and extracts a crystal of light (wind) she then seems to notice the wol’s connection to hydalyn “that stench… i see she has touched you” that seems to imply that the blessing of light is indeed the source of protection for tempering. i would be curious to know your thoughts on the subject

  16. when it comes to the echo vs blessing of light, the game says the echo gives you primal protection, it then implies the blessing gives you primal protection, ergo they BOTH give you primal protection. As we can't pick and chose what the game says, you gotta take them both. When authors write something messily, this is just what you have to do.

  17. Yes! So much discussion on echo and blessing of light + travellers ward..

Ferdola and zenos being so important in SB, and how its effect in ew is the main problem…

  18. Hello, I hope it's not already too late to comment. I have a question that interests me A LOT. And I would be really happy to get an answer to this! Endwalker Spoilers of course!
So, since Emet, Elidibus, Venat and ALL of the souls sacrificed to Zodiark are now dead, their souls return to eitherys right? Which means they get reborn. But other than the sundered souls they won't be reborn sundered. They won't remember anything and will be new beings but does that mean they will be born unsundered again? And there has been a lot of sacrifices to Zodiark. Does that mean in the future we will have many many people born unsundered? They couldn't be sundered now with Hydaelyn gone and she was the only reason souls were sundered to begin with. The sundered remain sundered but will unsundered remain unsundered too? Are we looking at a future with sundered and unsundered living together? I'm sure we won't get to see it but…doesn't it make the ancients return inevitable? Like Hythlodaeus said, we might see each other again in another Life. It's sooo interesting to me- probably because I don't want to let go of them either! Haha! ^-^

  19. Wait, wasn't the Blessing of Light the big elemental circle that Midgardsormr Thanos snapped away and that led to the Nabriales fight?? I thought that was just a WoL thing, like not even Krile and Ysayle had that (could be wrong, been a while since that was or wasn't said)
