  1. The idea that single players have to compete with FC's for housing seems like a manufactured problem. Chances are the people that want the advantages of housing won't want to share it with others players, that's what FC housing is for.

  2. As a minion collector, I'm very keen to see how they are involved in the sancuary. I'd love to see a whole bunch of them running around rather than just something like a single one roaming around.

  3. While I like the the idea that the "island" might be a sea of cloud type of island and it would be very lovely/picturesque, since the art used for the island sanctuary you can see the ocean I'm thinking it's the more traditional kind of island (with a manic amount of minions running around of course). But as you both have said, I think it's most important to temper one's expectation regarding both content and release time of this piece of content. That way, the absolute worst consequence will be a very delightful surprise 😀

  4. I wish they hadn't even announced the sanctuary as early as they did if they weren't going to offer any information on it. My fear is that it will just turn into a daily hub that most players visit for 10 minutes a day for a month and then never return.

  5. It's either going to be just a pathetic place where you can go to on the only thing you can do is to have your minions out like the Chao Garden in Sonic Adventure…

…or it's going to be Stardew Valley levels of farming and customization.

I believe it'll likely be the former.

  6. I also hope it will be like a personal housing option that is an alternative to the more community based housing that we have today. I have housing items, clogging up my bags that I would love to use, but i can't afford housing. Perhaps a gil sink opportunity to expand the size of the house to do more with it.

  7. I joined FFXIV ever since the announcement of island sanctuary… I have a feeling it might not be what most of us are expecting (full blown farming simulation lol) but am curious to see how the devs are gonna do this

  8. i would like it as personal housing, i dont need the dresser, so i wouldnt care about if someone can visit me or not. if it is easier then make it none visitable, so that ppl can have their island to work around with as housing, you make screanshots. and give ppl that want housing as prestige, so that other ppl can marvel in it, the normal housing. like chris i want gardening, i love gardening, but cant do it, because i cant get a house.

  9. I am very, very excited but apprehensive about Island Sanctuary. I would prefer a housing overhaul and fear (granted I have not played but have heard stories) that it will turn into WoW garrisons. I do not want garrisons that are mandatory to develop and draw people into secluded corners of the world away from each other. I want housing to just be more accessible and comprehensive, but I can't say I am not still very excited about the concept of Island Sanctuary.

  10. Random thought you put in my head: Mobile island. Perhaps a sea of clouds floating island, Azys Lla style artificial island with a natural (dirt, trees, etc) layer on top. Point is, PORTABLE. It travels with us from expansion to expansion. The big reason the WoW Garrison was left behind is because it's not mobile. The options were to keep teleporting back to alternate dimension, 30 years in the past Draenor or build a whole new garrison. If it's mobile all the would have to do is change the backdrop and skybox for the new zones. Although it wouldn't be necessary to be mobile since our ability to teleport is canon and story critical.

  11. While using this system as an "answer" to housing, I can't hold my breath considering we know so little. I will say, Yoshi-P NEEDS to address this system to temper expectations. Wild speculation left unchecked is the fastest way to players being disappointed when it doesn't meet their every dream. If he just gave something concrete about it (as to what they "want" it to be vs "will" be) player can rein themselves in.

  12. 1. Chiefly non-combat driven games. maybe have mines which are combat-driven, but they're not a central focus.

    2. Most of the gameplay involves collecting goods, selling goods, and talking with islandfolk.

    3. Revolve around you customizing your own home and farm; what crops you plant and what tools you use around. Maybe customize your home with various furniture and room dressings? Or customize your island with public works projects.

    4. Have large, overarching goals and give you free reign in when and how to achieve them. For example around developing the town or main street, but there's also collection goals and self-driven goals like assembling items for creating a specific look or theme.

    5. Chiefly an "escapism" sort of games, where you imagine departing from a stress-filled MSQ or even RL to a more serene and simple life out in the island.

    6. Underneath their peaceful exterior, there is a web of interacting game mechanics, a lot of which aren't explicitly exposed to the player. You're encouraged to experiment and try different things and be pleasantly surprised by unexpected things.

    7. Have real-world calendar and clock and perhaps weather. This is a substantial because there are multiple things which require you to wait until the next day, so it encourages daily play to see your results and progress further. Include in-game holidays and special events that depends on real-world time? There's the opportunity to join in on a community of people who are all experiencing the same event at the same time; this is important for some events where if you travel to other player's islands, you can help each other with event completion.

    8. Randomness: every player's experience unique — you have your own random island layout and your own set of random ten or so villagers which move in, so you're practically guaranteed to have a unique island. Items appear in shops randomly, so you won't have the same decorations that other islands have (at least at first). There are lots of rare events and rare conversations with villagers, so you will probably not have the same experience that other players will have.

    9. You build up relationship points with various NPC, and you can eventually marry one of them.

    10. Each villagers has a backstory and there are cutscenes which you can experience for various characters.

    11. Revolves around farming and the farm as a way to generate cash and progress the story. Includes gardening component (e.g. planting fruit trees), fishing and catching animals can be the main cash cows and harvesting fruit is just another way to get money.

  13. I'm mostly interested in just how involved island sanctuaries will be as a whole and if there will be any sort of limit on who can get one. I mean, if adding housing districts is a load on the servers I can't imagine what this will be like. But maybe its not a problem and they won't be persistent like housing districts are, maybe like personal instances? I dunno but I'm excited to see the scope.

  14. i agree housing should only be available for FC's at least the biggest plots. we can get a room, a apartment, a house, and a fc house. that is way to much. i have three of them. at which i barely enter my house i have only really done the outside and keep on getting the demolition notice, think i may give it up as i don't like being part of the problem. so ya FC ishgard. heck give everyone who has a personal house that is in a FC or just all 2-3x the amount of gill and demolish the housing. there's not much need for one person to have a house to them self's. maybe redesign the districts so the house plots are all the same and give bigger gardens.

  15. I wonder if the Island Sanctuary will be Endwalker's restoration content, similar to Mor Dhona, Idyllshire, Doman Enclave and the Firmament.

If might not be in the live letter tonight due to it being a combat focussed letter, but there is another non-combat focussed live letter before Endwalker's release.

  16. This might sound too romantic, but I picture Island Sanctuary being the place your adventure's home. After 6.0 is complete, 6.1 could start in peace at the Sanctuary with limited access. Throughout 6.x there are blue+ NPCs to unlock skills (farming, etc).
