  1. This is one of the hottest questions I've been asked from players moving from WoW to FFXIV — here's our thoughts from a WoW Noob (ME, I'M WOW GARBAGE) and a WoW veteran!

  2. My boyfriend bought Shadowlands after we finished farming the Eden's Promise tier, and he was soooo frustrated every time he launched the game 😀 Like little design choices (no sprint), big design choices (gearsystem, crap party finder), community (it seems everyone is a System of a down fan…).
And for the classes: eventually the wow classes feel different because of the shorter GCD. And for me healers are a totally different cake 😀

  3. I’ve been so angry about the state of wow for a while now, but listening to you two talk about it just breaks my heart. What became of my favorite game? Honestly I’m even logging in anymore is because I don’t wanna screw over my guild right when we’re about to kill Mythic Denathrius. OTOH on XIV I’ve already leveled every single battle job to 80, fully caught up on MSQ, and am now working on crafters/gatherers and none of it has felt anywhere near as tedious as as doing pretty much anything on wow nowadays.

  4. My take, short version, quick and dirty. Disclaimer: I haven't played WoW since Legion, and that was pretty limited to one or two classes. Last time I played a wide swath was Mists and early Warlords of Draenor:

    Tanks:

PLD – Prot Paladin with a smidge of Holy Paladin.
WAR – Prot Warrior, a little bit of Blood Death Knight.
DRK – Death Knight (not sure enough of their specs tbh). Haven't played DRK or DKnight much, though, but I'm not sure what's closer.
GNB – Probably some mix or Rogue/Demon Hunter; plays kind of like a DPS.

    Healers:

WHM – Resto Druid is probably the closest, mixed with Holy Paladin. Lots of HoT focus but also strong direct heals. Uses Nature magic…until high levels just go full Holy caster in the end.
SCH – Not sure the MOST direct comparison. Probably Discipline Priest, though it doesn't heal by doing damage.*
AST – Mix of the two, can swap between both (for now). EW will probably be more focused on the healing side but being a cross, so I'd think Holy Priest.

*SCH's focus on oGCDs (off-Global CoolDown abilities) plus the pet healing is really unique and doesn't have a DIRECT parallel to WoW.

    DPS:

    Casters:

BLM – Turret Mage. Been a while since I played, but vaguely reminds me of Arcane Mage with the "burn" and "MP regen" phases.
RDM – LOOSELY speaking, Boomkin/Balance Druid. Has a heal, combat Raise, and balances between light and dark mana to empower a boosted melee combo.
SMN – Warlock. I've never played Warlocks much, but I'd say Demonology. Focus on the pet/summons while maintaining DoTs on the enemy.

    Ranged Physical:

MCH – I haven't played Hunters in years, but I'm thinking a lot like Marksman Hunter with the no pet talent. Straightforward rotation building resource to unleash.
BRD – OLD Survival Hunter/Assassination Rogue (poisons), manages DoTs on the enemy; buffs the party passively through its rotation.
DNC – I'm not sure of a good modern WoW equivalent, but old school Enhance Shaman with totem buffs for party members comes to mind.

    Melee:

DRG – PROBABLY Retribution Paladin or Arms Warrior
SAM – Old (Wrath/Cataclysm?) Ret Paladin. Pretty straighforward, does high damage.
MNK – Combat Rogue or the dps Monk spec I can't remember the name of at the moment. Fast combat style with lots of positional.
NIN – Some combination of Combat and Subtlety Rogue. Has Trick Attack, which is a party buff that all rotations in raid content are anchored around, as well as the somewhat unique Mudra system, which acts….VERY LOOSELY like old (Wrath/Cata/etc) Death Knights with their sigil system where you had 3 sigils and could have 2 of each kind and expended them to use other abilities. Not sure the BEST NIN comparison, but it's what I've got, sorry. [NOTE: Just googled Rogue specs and realized that Combat was renamed "Outlaw"…huh…]

    .

Given I haven't played WoW in two expansions, and haven't played it SERIOUSLY in four, this is the best I can do, but at least some of these should translate decently, especially the more obvious ones like PLD and WHM. So I defer to those that have played WoW more recently. But I used to play Holy Paladin and Resto Druid as well as Prot Paladin and Arcane Mage and Balance Druid back in the day, and so those seem to be most near to what I can point out.

  5. Oh, about the cosmetics:

I think it's a matter of "a record of when you played".

Relic weapons, I feel, are a bit different because…other than the Anima ones, maybe, they're still a grind to get. Even getting an ARR Relic right now is a test of endurance – will you keep it up to the goal? – and this is true of almost all of the Relics. Even the HW ones are a grind (much less so for subsequent ones since you have all the vendors unlocked and understand the basic pattern), but probably the easiest. SB ones are gated behind Eureka, which isn't BAD (the modern +300% to damage and experience gains are amazing), but you still have to get over the hump of the different parts, and then you have to go back to Anemos since you likely have lots of mats from the higher zones since you had to grind there more for XP. Once you get Logos Actions is pretty cool, and if you're on Primal datacenter, look up Primal Forays Disc; they run BA stuff and DR as well (Bozja), including learning runs. Those good people are how I got my Ozma mount, and I can't say enough good things about the Eureka community.

    But yeah. 🙂

I understand wanting to have unique things – on WoW for years I liked that I had the Brewfest Steins for every year and could view it as a sort of record of my and my characters' time with the game – though I tend not to like things being cut off entirely. E.g. if you want to have a special color skin or special title, I don't mind that being time exclusive, but I feel you should still be able to access the MODEL. I feel this same way about store cosmetics. It's okay to have a few unique colors if you want to sell them, but I should be able to at least get the MODEL of that mount or whatever in the game somehow.

So I can see both sides of that argument, I guess.

Though I think of Mage Tower as more akin to Ultimates – something that's supposed to be played at a given ilevel/difficulty level so that it's still an achievement no matter when you get it.

  6. It may sound weird, but I’d recommend bard to a Ret Pal. Very proc based, dots to keep up, utility (up healing on a target, esuna), high mobility… it needs the same kind if awareness but could also just tunnel vision

  7. Dang this was my plan for a blong entry once we learn the rest of the Endalker info. Oh well. I still have races and locations for a dictionary.

Also I would add that while you can't do endgame with them, Blue Mage is similar to Guardian Druid in the sense that it is a caster that can tank. The only caster that can tank.

  8. Just came across this and was a good back and forth video to listen to. I will add in that the "fights are designed without healer dps" comment is something that was said 2 expansions ago during Gordias I believe and has since changed as proven by the design of the fights in Stormblood and Shadowbringers.

  9. 1:12:58 ffxiv monk has the fastest gcd in the game and is all about waiting for your rof pb burst phases, i feel like you missed the comparison on that one, never played wow but am a monk main on ffxiv and your description of the wow monk sounded very familiar and relatable. The mobility with dashes and six sided star to compensate downtime mechanics, fast gcd with lots of weaving, burst perfect balance windows

  10. if i could think of a Final Fantasy class that would be most like Enhance shaman it is one not in ff14(yet)… the Onion Knight, melee class that uses magic that is more focused on melee than magic. (kinda like a melee counterpart to the red-mage)

  11. The best part about 14 is that most of the classes output similar numbers if they are played well(with the exception of the selfish DPS classes for obvious reasons) , with their utility and party skills being the main differential from other similar classes.

I stopped playing 14 to play a bit of Classic WoW last year and one aspect that both 14 and classic execute really well is that most classes/specs have a really well defined niche that sets them apart from the other classes.

Things like mages having portals and being able to make food, or the massive amount of utility that Druid(shapeshifting) and Shaman(totems) have are unique abilities that no other class has that makes them unique.

Same thing can be said for the Red Mage being able to single handedly raise half of a raid and salvage a trial from the brink of destruction, or how a dancer can supercharge their dance partner, or how a ninja has a ninpou for every situation and scholars can combo their cooldowns to use their heals in very different ways.

It's a shame that at some point WoW forgot about class identity and now they are trying to make the classes more unique, while 14 has always had class identity at the center of its balancing and is not afraid to make big changes to a job so they always have a niche they can fill(Machinist Rework, Summoner, Astrologian)

  12. trying to pick a new job for FF14 as im coming back after jumping into wow for a couple years. I love destro warlock. but i mainly love Chaos Bolt and how hard it hits. Infernals are cool and all but Chaos Bolt is really what makes it feel great with a spell that just hits fuckin hard all the time haha between like summoner and black mage is summoner still the better comparison for destro?

  13. WTF? IDK whose channel this is. This vid is my 1st time being here but to the LOUD AS FUCK DUDE talking over the other dude who thought he got disconnected. Just STOP! That's so rude. You wouldn't even let the other guy finish his thought before you jumped in with your nonsensical ramblings. This has happened way too many times in the 7mns & 19secs I've been trying to watch this. Unbelievable.

  14. The balance between the two casters seems off. Sorry to say but ive gotten annoyed the hell out of the guy with the higher pitched voice. Could be because the microphone levels are too different but on several occasions i felt like “LET THE GUY SPEAK MAN”. Hope you guys keep it in mind on your next podcast
