  1. Honestly mobile games with Hoyoverse quality and non-predatory monetization is great for between patch & expansions for FFXIV. With how different the games are to FFXIV and not-demanding yet still providing a solid story & gameplay (At least via Genshin Impact and Honkai: Star Rail – which I dub "Honkers") it's nice going back after a break. Shame it's 4-months wait but eh, what can you do.

  2. If I didn't have to pay for a subscription I'd get back in and work on getting my Reaper, but the wife and I stepped away from any game that require subs.

  3. the attitude and level of extremes that are taken in very tightly knit hoyoverse circles are unlike anything i've ever seen, it's even more deeply rooted and blind to the rest of the world than a gang of classic wow enjoyers…. I'm not saying it's bad, good, disgusting, or degenerate, it's just truly unique and strange that something can exist in this way.

  4. From someone who played WoW for 15 years, Player Retention Efforts ARE GOD AWFUL. i hope THEY NEVER try to address it. because it makes doing content an awful horrible grind that no one wants to play. id rather the game die for a few months and get new stuff to bring you back rather than trying to lock you into the game every day, putting you on a treadmill that offers a nothing of a reward. Learn from our pain, or the plight will be repeated

  5. This expansion hasn't been… great… for retainment. Love the game, love the story and the world – but I wish there was more weekly stuff to do. There's definitely old stuff to gather, some collection and so on – but if I miss it for months I don't feel like I'm missing anything.

And it's definitely emptier atm. My 1 hour queue this morning for a single crystal pvp match shows that.

  6. I’ve wanted to come back to FFXIV several times. I haven’t played since Heavensward. I’m so far behind now that I think there’s no point. I wouldn’t know where to start if I came back. My entire old guild quit the game. Lol.

  7. I really hope you're right about swashbuckling and pirates being a theme and possible new job, that's kind of my character's whole aesthetic. It's little things like that, which can really invest you into XIV.

I do think there is room for improvement, and I'm hoping that once this series of adding Trust support for old content is done (I hope), they can really focus more on current stuff again. An exploratory zone with Lost Actions, gil-making endeavors, armor sets, and the like goes a long, long way. Having another Ishgard Restoration type content would also be really welcome.. not a lot of people talk about the lack of one for Endwalker, but I've felt it.

  8. I am glad with the current weapon system because it is great for gearing alts. Also, i find it hilarious that Zepla is always hanging on the world i left when i moved to Dynamis.

  9. I have absolutely zero faith that any new job will be more than an old job thrown into a blender and smeared across the screen. Getting a new healer after 3 expansions and 8 years for it to legit be a laser Scholar (not to mention the absolute crap they've done with healing in ShB-EW era) just leaves me with no hope.

  10. I have logged in every day since I started and played for multiple hours. Can't understand how people say there's nothing to do. 900 hours so far, every single day I've been doing something I cared about

  11. The 4 days free log in campaign they gave probably boosted this number as well. I'm on a break from the game too but made use of those 4 days period to check on my stuff and unlock some new content so I'm probably also counted as "an active player" by the census now

  12. Would be awesome if the fan fest in July the hint job would be a guitar class as a mage just like soulworker 😂 they did say adding a job never been on a ff game 🤔 so that would be awesome 😮

  13. I think next job will be a Trapper that uses scouting gear

And the next tank will be from Gridania, a druid. Gridania has stated outright that they have a lack in physical fighters, I think this would be a good class to address that, and finally have a tank from all four of the cities.

  14. One calamity that I have noticed and a few others on the server my OC is on: players who want to experience ALL of FFXIV are being discouraged from doing so. For example: on of my friends wanted to do the Sky Pirates storyline. In her FC: she asked if anyone would be willing to go through it with her. She was promptly told its optional content: just skip it. I then asked a friend about this and he said the same thing: just skip it. I then said "you were able to complete it; but, someone doesn't deserve the same opportunity?" His reply shocked me as "Well, that's on them, not me!" Seriously?!? Granted the world my OC is on is reconsidered a "high end raiding/YouTube streamer" world; but, that shouldn't be a factor. I think it is unfair that content others had people happy to help them do aren't readily encouraged to complete the same content. Binding Coils, Sky Pirates, and many others hold "lore treasures" that make the story more impactful and provide better understanding for why things happen in the game or why NPCs feel a certain way about you as the WOL and the world of Eorzea in general. Even know: if a player gets to a certain part in Heavensward, they are in for a 30 to 45 minute queue time for something that is required for the MSQ progression. However, that is an entirely different issue. With that said: it is important and good FFXIV has a lot of new players and has retained active veteran players. It is equally important that a sprout who has the goal of wanting to compete all of FFXIV and become a veteran should be given that opportunity without being "gated" behind the "optional content" responses. BTW… The person who I asked is a "mentor." Guess many just want the crown and not what the crown represents.
