The debate comparing World of Warcraft and Final Fantasy 14 Online is an ongoing one but the truth is, FFXIV is simply better in every way.

5:40 I haven't played WoW in over a decade and I only remember Thunder Bluff for being the deadest most pointless "capital" city I've ever been to.
Loosing all my progression is what truly drove me away from WoW in the first place, really, and that is the reason i loved GW2. Everything from the previous expansions you unlock there, stay with you all the way, and even used in the rest of the expansions too. It's a shame WoW cannot understand this is the key for them to attract all the casual and lore players together…. At least FF14 has learned this and created a positive community out of it.
Something good about FFXIV is that the world changes as the story progresses. Does it lock players in different instances because of it? Yes it does. But it is part of the story, and lets the player know that their actions are having an effect on the world. In contrasts, in WoW it doesn't matter if I kill 20 candle bearing flea-bittern kobolds, 40 beggardly defias curs and bring the quest giver 12 slabs of bear ass, the world remains the same. The cave is never cleared so the miners can go back to work, things remain as bad as day one.
You had no impact whatsoever.
Having finished Endwalker, I am in awe. There has never been a single video game in my life has left me emotionally drained from having to cry, not a manly cry but an ugly cry. It chips away my macho exterior with scene after scene reaching my deepest emotion. Having to say FFXIV is Fantastic is an understatement. We need to somehow preserve FFXIV in a musem vault somewhere and cherish this masterpiece.
Blizz is paying attention. Hence the copy and past that patch 9.2 will end a "saga" that started in WC3. Just like Endwalker.
sorry for my english is bad but i will try to explain the differnet between final and wow. The difference is that it is that final keeps everything from the old expansion until the new one. Wow removes some content and they expressly put it on the black market so that the people can buy their token. AND also he forces the world to log in every day to tell their actionr to watch there are millions of people logging in here is the swindle
Welcome to ffxiv ^^ I hope you enjoy play
Honestly, noone "Wins". The people who like WoW lose, thats all. I dont think there are any winners here.
9:00 Oof, I was just about to try the game.
If they made wow like FF, I would actually quit wow. FF is not something I enjoy.
Ya but your reference to coils isn’t a great one imo. Why would I do old content with irrelevant gear. The newest raid ff14 releases I guarantee has the bis gear so the problem still exists. The best way it was done was in original eq. Because raids and dungeons weren’t instanced. You wouldn’t always be able to do the hardest raid because it had a respawn so you would have to go do other lesser raids to gear your team out so maybe you could take on the hardest stuff
It's therapeutic. After this i am considering delete my character.
I was farming korthia for 2 month. Only one quest outside of the main campaign has to be with character progression (narrative, venari), and only one has to be with lore. 2 quest after farming 2 months. That's bad.
WoW needs to just add the Aetherite system. I'm convinced one of the reasons that the capitals are so crowded is there's no real punishment for traveling where you need to be. In WoW, you better be in the new zone's hub or else you burn your hearthstone or travel becomes more of a pain
Blizzard is done, they will never learn because they don’t want to
WoW has the most wasted potential of any game ever. Blizzard literally never updated the default UI since 2006. That was intentional by the WoW Devs since Subscribers will do the work for them with hundreds of add-ons. Lazy asshats who milked the dopest game for all they could now its all a dumpster fire.
When you play a game like FF , you quickly see the emperor has no clothes . And the naked body of world of fruit bowls is far worse then even the wildest imagination. World of Warcraft is at best a combat encounter simulator, and it doesn’t even do that well
I first played WoW because of friends and later only for the occasional loot roulette adrenaline spikes.
I play FFXIV because it is the best damn game and world ever created.
Great points in this video! I’m a long time WOW player and I’m leveling a toon in FFXIV. I just got to the Stormblood expansion today. I also play Classic WOW – in a guild raiding the Burning Crusade content weekly. I quit retail WOW during Cataclysm – notably the expansion that destroyed the original world I’d leveled in and loved. You are so right about world persistence. All of the content in FFXIV still feels vibrant and alive. None of the major cities are deserted and long time players do the same content I’m doing due to the duty roulette. Brilliant design! Love FFXIV!
Edit: this video got me to subscribe. Keep up the great work!
How many times I have farmed Firelands and wishing it was viable content instead of walking through it like a stroll in a park.
I would love to see wow having a story mode, imagine a good designed long questline that walks you through all expansions, making sense of the lore and stories, i would love to see that.
It's 8 years old, not 11. ARR launched in 2013. For 11 years old you are thinking FFXIV 1.0. All your other points are correct. "Determination" in WOW was actually ripped off from the Echo in FFXIV.
Personal experience with FF main cities
Gridania: mah home, people play music, friendly and mostly not too many of them gather around to make it lag like hell
Uldah: I guess this is like the "Look mom, I am a big boy so Im gonna pick flame GC" city. Never liked this grand company, hate how the city is built but I have a lot of quests here for paladin so I am used to it by now.
Limsa: NOPE
On the eso front – that isn't entirely correct. I think it isn't able to compete for different reasons because every single thing added to the game since launch is relevant, its rewards are relevant, and continue to be relevant with every patch.
For example, one of the most popular tanking sets came out in an expansion raid years ago. :p The only thing that is weird is how they start a new character in current content but they recently changed that so the tutorial lets you choose what story you want to immerse yourself in to start off with.
Coming from WoW – one of the reasons I chose ESO as the game I wanted to switch to was because all the content is relevant to this day and every city has people running around in it. Also, since there is so many rewards for player house which is a big end game for a lot of people, the world is always alive with people.
The other reason I chose ESO as the game to switch to was because of the PvP… it's really fun :p
anyways – I don't think it can compete with the other games for different reasons… the game isn't isolated to the current expansion like WoW is. It could be that it had a horrible launch, maybe it's simply because people prefer Elder Scrolls to be presented in a single player format not as an mmo, it could also be the combat system… people either LOVE it or HATE it lol, and maybe just the art style… WoW's cartoony art style is always so fun to look at…. ESO goes for a more "real" art style I guess?
Maybe it's because it isn't tab target? and most popular IPs are tab target? and simply because of this it makes it less appealing as the player would have to learn something entirely different?
idk… I don't disagree at all that it will never compete with ff14, wow, and whatever is most popular… but it seems to consistently be in the top 5 or whatever…. I might be misinformed on this idk.
Regardless – since it's the game I main right now I just want to share that my only complaint is that PVP has been neglected for some time and that is my favorite part of the game. I still pvp regularly(mostly in battlegrounds), but the server performance in Cyrodiil open world is something ZoS has struggled to fix. They dug themselves into a hole because everytime they add new content cyrodiil gets worse and they haven't been able to figure it out yet. It's playable during the day, but after work in the evening (prime time) its too populated and the server suffers from severe lag.
Otherwise: The community is wonderful, the game feels alive with so many people running around, pve dungeons and raids are fun and challenging (if you choose hard mode), it has challenging solo content such as Vateshran Hollows and Maelstrom Arena, and the Questing is very enjoyable, especially for those who are big TES lore fans.
So far… since quitting in Shadowlands…. my only regret in leaving WoW is that I didn't leave sooner… I feel like we are all brainwashed into believing WoW is better than it is with it having been #1 for sooooooo long.
I'm also deep into ff14 Heavensward right now and having a blast! Excellent story telling! Great game but everyone is different… I'm still super infatuated with ESO atm. :p
