  1. The chains on Cerberus wouldn't (and still don't, at times) get done because while he is slumped down in pain after messing up his gut, it's "free DPS" since no mechanics happen. What people didn't know then and have forgotten now is that the chains expire when held. So people who picked the chains up at the start of the cast would have waited until the very end of his regeneration, only for the chains to evaporate right before Reawakening. Cue a very angry doggo.

  2. I've actually been in World of Darkness recently where enough players were dead that we couldn't kill all the hourglasses. If you don't don't kill them, the quarter arena attack is untelegraphed towards one of the sectors that still has an hourglass.

  3. I was there! There was something awe-inspiring about it back then. Maybe it still is for new players. But for me, as my first real MMO that I stuck around with until end-game, the scale of 24 mans really amazed me. Especially that opening room in LotA. Also, aren't you able to go left or right at the start? Everyone goes left, but I'm pretty sure you can all go right instead if you want? Maybe I'm misremembering.

I think there were some improvements made to the raids over time, like going from 6 to 3 tanks in LotA. But I do think the raids were kinda more fun back then. Partly because our DPS is a lot higher nowadays so the DPS checks aren't an issue anymore (whether that's due to power creep or player skill). And partly because the fights were designed for the kits we used to have back then. For example, those "Kill that enemy before it reaches the boss and explodes" sort of mechanics were a fun place to use your abilities that inflicted Heavy. Guess what we don't have anymore 😛And enmity used to be a much bigger mechanic back then, and everyone had to be aware of it. So there was generally more danger for non-tanks because if you slipped up something could turn around and delete you. Also, I really miss the platform jumping fight, it was fun! The platforms themselves would electrify if I recall correctly, so there was a tension to doing them quickly, and it was neat seeing everyone being so coordinated by fighting and jumping together

  4. The best thing about cerberus from back then, the ppl actually used their brain and did not chain them immediately. You wait a bit for the chain and wait for the cast bar so cerb is a good little boy on the ground.
It was exploited so good, nowadays ppl lose their shit when you wait bcs they don't know what's going on xD

Ngl most ppl today could not do crystal tower synch 😂
    Would be a mess xD

  6. With Phlegethon, I remember when the claws grabbed people, that person would become untargetable. Side effect? If they weren't broken free before Ancient Flare was cast, and the rest of the raid was dead, he kept spamming it to try and kill the last person.

With Angra Mainyu, there was one way to get rid of the bind that would happen if you were targeted by lv100 flare/lv150 death. Dragoon's Elusive Jump. I traumatized quite a few people back then when I did that.

  7. Seeing a fellow old-timer tell about the old days makes me smile. I still miss all the additional npc vendors who sold things that were mainly just there for immersion. The server girls in the inns sold food and drinks, and I think there were vendors all over the world who sold materials and dyes.

  8. I would love to see someone talk about the remnants of mechanics that didn't make it into the raid series, like Phlegethon having a a second tier of pads on platforms above the arena, or how akward the transition from the main hub to reaching the way to Phlegethon is (it's obviously supposed to be a lift and it's set up to animate but it doesn't)

  9. I am an absolute lunatic and i agree that there have been so many mechanics and processes that have been removed. (BTW a good number of tanks STILL don't know how to face the Valfor.) I miss the old mechanics, wish they could re-work them so the mechanics still have to be dealt with.

  10. Funny thing is, Cloud of Darkness still does get those stoneskins in the add phase. People just beat on her until they break. Back then we didn't have enough DPS to break them while also being able to do the cloud mechanics, but now we just ignore the clouds and burn her down.

  11. This series is the only one I hae marker presets for, and I often ask people to do things such as Adds / Belly / Chains. Granted, if the party is being fun or 'Fun" I may change the Cerb advice to Always / Be / Chewed.
