FFXIV Guide – How to Buy and Start Playing Final Fantasy XIV

FFXIV has seen a lot of growth throughout 2021, and many more players are expected to join as we near the launch of its fourth expansion, Endwalker. But it can be unexpectedly difficult to find answers to very basic questions about which version to buy and how to log into your account. If you are new to the game or are considering trying the game out, I hope that this guide helps you.

You can sign up for FFXIV’s free trial here: https://freetrial.finalfantasyxiv.com/na/

If you want to use the non-Steam version of the launcher but you own the game on the Steam platform, you can right-click the FFXIV shortcut, go to the “Target:” field, and add a space and the word “-issteam” (without quotes) to the end of the field.

FFXIVQuickLauncher can be downloaded from https://github.com/goatcorp/FFXIVQuickLauncher/releases/ I cannot personally vouch for its effectiveness or safety.

  3. Thanks a lot for this! It clarified a lot of things 🙂
I still have some questions for anyone who wanna help:
background: I'm on the trial version, near end of HW, and I want to buy the starter edition (should finish HW in the free 30 days of subscription). I'll probably also preorder EW and take a break till November.
    1. this works right? I can buy the starter edition, play for 30 days and then play all the expansions on November?
    2. Can I buy it from the Mog Station, or should I just use store.eu.square-enix-games.com? (EU account btw)

I'm pretty sure the 1st question's answer is yes, but I have no idea about the 2nd one.

  4. So I bought the trial on steam but have been having really bad crashing issues (error 90002). I’ve tried every troubleshoot I found online. The people in my FC said if nothing fixes it then buying the PC version will fix it. Does anyone know if that’s actually true? I’ve already accepted I’ll have to start a new character. I wish I researched first lol.

  6. Is there an easy way to just buy the game online, download and play it?? This seems really confusing with 5 different sites? Thank you. Yes, I'm puter illiterate.

  7. Great tutorial video. I've been interested in playing FFXIV for awhile. I know what to do now, but I'm too irritated to go through this INSANE process of making an account. Cheezus Chroist Square Enix.

  8. So say that I already completed all the expansions on ps4 and want to move to PC. If I order the standard edition with endwalker, will I still be able to play all the old stuff or will i still have to wait to play everything on november 23rd?

  9. Sorry I am new to this game.
Here's my question; I installed game through website(free trial) and I started liking it. Can I buy it on steam and continue with the progress I made on free trail account?

  13. If I start the trial on steam and then decide to purchase the base game, do you know if my "Hour played" on steam will carry over? Or is it treated as a separate install/game?

  14. You made a mistake in your video, to make a One time password, you need to re-create your entire square enix account in the account management page with the same credentials as the Square Enix account you made on the main page. Otherwise your Square enix login from the main Square Enix page will not work with the Square Enix account management website which is a different place.
you need to make your account twice on Square Enix and Square Enix account management to get a One time password.

  15. I am surprised that ppl haven't complained about this shitty way of buying the game. I really hope they rework the website and make it easy and straight to the point without going through all type of fuckery just to buy their products lol

  16. So I preordered Endwalker and when I tried to redeem the code, it said that it was invalid. Do I need to buy the starter or complete edition first even though I already bought the most recent expansion? I would of thought that it would come with it, similar to how buying an expansion with WoW would work.
