FFXIV: Final Fantasy XIV Players Hold In Game Vigil For Akira Toriyama

We’ve all just received news of Akira Toriyama’s passing on March 1st. Upon my return to Ul’dah on the Hyperion server, I ran across this vigil in honor of the creator best known for the Dragon Ball series of Manga and Anime. Toriyama was also involved with Chrono Trigger, Dragon Quest, and other video games. His art style was distinctive and his characters loved by millions around the globe. Rest in peace. Thanks for everything! Recorded 3/8/24.

  1. There was also a line of people in Rhalgr's Reach in Adamantoise, most of them dressed in Dragon Ball glams, several riding Flying Nimbus mounts. It was a sight to see.

  2. And once again, within my lifetime, I see the loss of another irreplaceable legend who defined so much in our existence. It's an unwilling changing of the guard, my friends, and given the drama happening amongst the current leaders of various entertainment industries, I don't see much good coming out of it….Rest in peace, Toriyama-sempai.

  3. I'm pretty sure there was one of these for almost every server. This guy was a legend and was a pioneer for anime culture in the western world in more ways than one.

  4. Behemoth, Ultros, Tonberry, Hyperion, Coeurl and many more worlds and data centers participating without even consulting each other really shows how much impact Toriyama had on our lives.

Kazuki Takahashi, Stephen Critchlow, Kentaro Miura, and now Akira Toriyama… you might have passed away but we will keep cherish your legacies in our hearts and cherish your works for as long as we live.
