I guess i got lucky with it, i play on eu server from asia, and so my prime playing time is when there is not much people in que so i got a lot to time to play in these 3 days. today finished the entire msq and its damn toooo good. I hope que's will sort up and everyone will enjoy this journey.
the difference between Chris and Brian, Chris has been through this for years with WoW
The only reason I think this is the "worst" launch is because of the massive influx of players. With Wow dumping a majority of its players to FF we already know FF has had more players over the past few months than it's ever seen. Then you compound that with everyone coming for Endwalker and we get the situation we're in. Once I've got in there is not a single issue, one of the most flawless mmo launches ever, aside from the queue. Just remember, there's a good portion of players in queue that aren't even getting into the Endwalker experience. It's great to see for the game, but it definitely sucks for the players.
The "Food" is NOT that good, its over hype and marketing.
Raubahn extreme, although annoying, was one of my favorite memories from FFXIV. I was amazed how the community on my server formed a huge line in order to get through Raubahn extreme.
For me ARR is still worse than this. It wasn't even a matter of trying to log in during off-peak hours instead. There were so many issues. Mog station not recognizing registration codes, continual server crashes and maintenance. Imagine what's going on now, but add the game not recognizing you bought it, and then after all that struggle to get in you finally log in—only to have the game crash, too.
That was the ARR experience.
This is more like making a reservation to a restaurant and they don’t have enough tables to accommodate you. And, when you’re waiting you’re being pushed to leave.
Unfortunately if this is not fixed and fixed soon, they are going to lose ALOT of paying customers. This is a business, and businesses are there to do one thing… make money. The only way to speak to them and speak volumes is by taking the money from them. Dont get me wrong… Yoshida is an amazing amazing dev, but he doesnt own square… and now i feel like im rambling… lol im not even sure i got my point across being sick sucks 😛
I ended up playing middle of the night till whenever, luckily as a USA player who plays on a Europe server I can login normally around 7pm and be fine
Waited in queue for 1.75hrs, got down to "1 person in queue" then disconnect and back to 3500. This will be my third day of zero gameplay due to wasting an entire evening waiting in an ever shifting line.
Nothing personal Chris, but your arguments are kind of obnoxious. Sure, if you have the luxury of working from home, choosing your own hours, or otherwise shifting your entire life around gameplay, this isn't as bad as Stormblood. You're playing the game without impediment, but there are a whole lot of us who aren't playing at all. If I could choose between not being able to play, or just not being able to push through the MSQ, what do you think I'd pick?
Frustration aside, I do believe SE is doing their best, and this will clear up eventually. Just hope it's sooner rather than later.
still have not been able to get in AT ALL
I play at degenerate dead of night hours because my shift ends at that time. By the time I get home it's already well into dead queue times. This hasn't really affected me unless it's my off day and even then I just do something else until 11pm onwards
I've been booted a bunch of times but only lost my place in line 2 or 3 times
Way better than Stormblood IMO
That kinda sucks Japanese servers had queues on launch day but now it's kinda OK
this is no way worse than stormblood launch there are many things you can do to join the queue early even if you're at work you can use remote desktop or any other tool at least you can play when you're in the game, you say you can do other things aside from msq in stormblood well i just spent 2 years doing the side content for heavensward what else am i gonna do aside from msq(which i need to do to unlock all the new side content)
Chris really has issues accepting different opinions haha.
Launch been a disaster for me. I'm having audio issues with EW, so it not all rainbow and peaches even after you beat que.
I was optimistic and thought of it as a positive of the games health on day one that I could not play. On day 2 I was still sorta positive. End of day 3 and still not being able to play after trying for 3 full days I was understanding. Day 4 after hours of trying after work, 2002 after 2002, I get to 166 and now can't get in to even see the que at all. Now my positivity is over. This is very unacceptable. The wait is fine, the que amount is fine. It is NOT fine to get kicked after waiting hours or having to gamble you get your spot back.
Every time i que, i get from 4000+ to over 5000+ randomly around there, and i dont mind the waiting, but the problem is that its not been 1 time i managed to get back into the game because i been kicked out of the que everytime.
Only in the morning i get to log into the game like hardly any que 10-20 , and i can play max 4-5 hours until i have to do my chores and other activities though the day.
When i get home its hopeless getting back online again of the 2002 error and que. so for me i have to wait until the morning every time i can play ff14 again or until SE have fixed this server problems.
I think this is the worst thing ive seen in ff14 this 2002 error, and really hope this will be fixed very soon and not be that issue ever again.
fellas, analogies are not your strong suite…lol.
Thank you for understanding the problem. It's not the queue – it's the bouncer pushing people out. I fully expected the queues, and even had a couple of books to read. But try to get involved in a book and miss those few seconds that you might get back in the queue, not to mention getting coffee or going to the bathroom. The other problem is if you want to play with friends and they are in different time zones or have a limited window of time to play. I have had friends have to go do other things in-game, waiting for me to get so we can do the first-time dungeon run together.
I think people underestimate the scale of this problem. This login queue issue might last for a couple weekends during peak hours, so getting kicked out of queue is a big problem if it continues. It might be pretty bad between 3-10p weekdays too. I cant test because I work during that period and will play during OCX hours
You avoid the event by engineering a better login queue. This was avoidable, and should have been foreseen.
I’m still a sprout and just recently finished ARR, figured I wouldn’t log on for a while to give the vets all the slots they need for everyone to play. Sure EW is the new expansion & everyone’s excited, but I feel like it’s for the vets, not for the sprouts, not yet anyway. We got like 4 expansions worth of story to get through first.
It is frustrating, but I am really enjoying the game when I do get to play it
Its not even arguable which is worse. This expansion login que issue is 1000% worse. back in 4.0, it was a matter of "do i login and TRY to do MSQ? or do i level other classes and play the game in every other possible way." 6.0 is "do i play FF14 today or not? who knows…" The biggest difference is 1 expansion anyone could login and play, vs now where u might not even be able to login. Was this avoidable? no, was 4.0? yes. does that matter? no. fact is this is worse avoidable or no this is worse, and no one is at fault…….except Act. Blizzard. lol
The “too many people” argument is a bit weak when you’re coming from other MMOs that have massive queues that you have to sit through yet don’t CONTINUALLY get kicked out the line. With Stormblood, once I realized that I couldn’t progress MSQ then I just went and did other things in the game until I could but with Endwalker it’s insanely difficult to even get in the game. Over the past 4 days I’ve just had too many get kicked out of line and start over situations that literally took up the entire day to not say that the situation isn’t at least comparable to Stormblood’s launch. Plus you’re pretty much glued to your computer because a boot could come at any second as opposed to just being able to calmly chill in a long line while casually doing other things.
I understand the problem, respect the situation, but my dish was served cold in the alley behind the restaurant tonight.
I’m working 11-12 hour days (customer service job) and all I hoped for at the end of my day was at least 30 minutes in my favorite video game <3
Waited 2 hours, got to spot number 1, then was 4004d by the restaurant staff.
Should have gone to bed about an hour ago, but pretty upset/bummed I didn’t get my needed dope of escapism tonight.
Definitely not mad at the game, as I love it, but sometimes something you love just disappoints you.
Oye maybe tomorrow lol
The game is stable as long as you’re online.
This is a login server issue. That’s all.
Oh, I was talking about this with my fc. I don’t understand this debate because, at the end of day, the endwalker launch had some issues. I don’t understand why I have to say whether which one was worse if both of them had issues. Not to mention, the fact that u have to say “oh do this” shows that players have to work around the game in order to have a good experience. Moreover, I don’t really care about what happened with stormblood and realm reborn because those launches has already come to past. At this point, it feels like people just want to compare it to the other launches to hide the fact that not everyone was able to enjoy Endwalker. And here is the most important (especially for those who r going to reply) I still like and enjoyed endwalker, I just want to point out that there was issues with the launch. I don’t hate Yoshi p or se for not being able to magically solve all the problems with the game as soon as possible. I just want to say that the launch was rough.
This was pretty much unavoidable. Square Enix has been trying for months (since the game boomed back in the summer) in trying to get more servers to prepare for this but haven't had luck due to shortages.
From what I've seen, long queue lines aren't bothering people and they were expecting it. What's bothering them is the 2002 error that force shutdowns your game and loses your position in the queue even if you have good internet.
I've been able to get in the game and play on Friday morning and Monday morning but not on Saturday and Sunday afternoon (was busy in the morning those two days).
Hi long time fan first time leaving a comment. I agree with Brian 100%. Chris makes a lot of good points but thr reality is that the line is fucked up because we all have no issue with waiting to play the game but when I keep getting kicked out of queue because of their settings that's when fans will be annoyed.
My theory on the 2002 error is that every time the client needs an update on your place in line, it contacts the login server. If the login server is at the 17k limit at the moment that request is send, you'll end up kicked with the error.
1.0 launch takes the cake but 2.0 was also worse than this.
Important issue aside: I want to see an hour of Chris and Brian creating extended metaphors.
the sticks of dynamite being thrown in the line (2002 error) is a system to keep the server from crashing from too many ppl trying to get in Yoshi said the number was around 17000 ppl. If ppl stopped getting disconnected while trying to log in the server would just crash. then everyone would try to log in and it would just crash again and literally, no one would get to play. So I gotta agree with Chris on this one that the problem is simply too many people that even the line gets overloaded. And if this was something that could have been foreseen a long time ago then sure I would blame it on SE but the growth of the game came pretty much out of nowhere and it's reasonable that they couldn't massively upgrade their servers in time.
9:03 – Bouncer is EVIL 🤣
I agree with Brian on this one.
Chris' restaurant analogy doesn't work to explain the reality of the line imo. It isn't we want to eat at a popular restaurant. It's more we are going to pick up our food that we paid for at that restaurant. When we get there we see a huge line for pick up. We go to the desk and ask for our food and get an apology we accept and a number for pick up. As we wait the restaurant's computer loses power and our food order. So we have to reorder and wait on the line again. It isn't anyone's fault. That doesn't make it less frustrating for the people who feel they paid upfront instead of going to another restaurant.
Easy way to solve this problem is have a limit of how long you can stay online for. Give like a 20 hr limit of how long your character can be logged in at one time then auto log if not int a dungeon or something.
This is exactly what I thought early access was gonna be, when they told us we were at ??????? Number of players
Took me about 2 hours to log in on Saturday. Went and unlocked Reaper. Was setting up my hotbar and was kicked. Felt bad. Took another 3 hours and 2 2002 errors to get back in. That being said, I've stood in line for over 4 hours at an amusement park to ride a rollercoaster that lasted about a minute. It sucks, but it is what it is. Hopefully, Login Savage will have the kinks worked out in a couple of weeks.
I don't mind waiting, I really don't. What I do mind is loosing my spot.
The "product" of the restaurant will be the same weather I loose my spot in line or not. So why would I not be upset with losing my spot in line?
Brian is absolutely right. This is literally people getting into a line that sticks of dynamite are being thrown at. The queue sucks, but the fact that the queue can waste half your day, because there’s a chance you’ll just get thrown out of it… I’m sorry, but THAT is an unforgivable sin. Most of the goodwill they had, not only from long term players but all the new folks who came over this year, is being completely squandered. They should have postponed this six months instead of gone with what’s going on now.
Guys, the problem is the 2002 Queue bug. It’s NOT an unavoidable server issue, it is someone in SquareEnix tech team messed up the Login Queue coding. This could have been completely avoided. Chris is completely off here. This is negligent, big time.
The fact they compared this to food makes no sense. Lol 😆 it's not a restaurant bro it's the internet. And Money talks they should of bought servers out the yiu yang since shadowbringers launched just for this purpose. Especially after yoshi p said we will spare no expense on 14
I had no issues with 1.0 launch outside of maybe half a a dozen 1 hour que times at most and 2/3 disconnects back in 2013
Also atleasy with rauhban ex we got fate grind or level are jobs while we waited
Here's the difference.
I'm done EW MSQ, because once I got in, it's been smooth. So, day 4, I've made it to the end.
In SB, 3 of those days would have been TOTALLY Raublock'd.
