Well, you went there with a researcher and one escort because that researcher was the one who insisted on taking the risk during the test, and escort was the only one who could escort her. Remember it tempers everyone who gets close and you're the only one in that group with the blessing to protect you. Anyone else would have been useless on the shore unable to approach, or tempered and actually a detriment.
Strange vipes, yeah I got those too but of probably a different variety, but I think it was due to Shadowbringer's. This guy was basically in the same position as the infamous Vauthry (2nd hub city leader that you met at the end of 1 of the legs of the starting zones, and second 2nd city is semi closed off). Glad he wasn't Vauthry 2.0 though.
The star/planet thing confused the heck out of me too for basically the same reason :).
Happy belated birthday Dev! I hope you're enjoying endwalker so far. This is one of my favorite games by far and my favorite MMO. I'm making my way through stormblood at a pretty good pace, and I hope to join in on some shenanigans at some point once I catch up lol.
