FFXIV Endgame has a brutal gearing system for alt jobs:
FFXIV is one of the most alt friendly games in the MMORPG genre, where you can play up to 21 jobs all on one character. However this becomes much more punishing when try to gear your other jobs and play them in endgame content.
Would love to hear what you think about loot lockouts and gearing in FFXIV, and if you think there are any problems.

I really dont think its that bad. Especially when you take into consideration how easy it is to get crafted gear and tomestone/alliance gear that is basically just a small step down from raid gear. The gear requirements for content are also a lot more relaxed than in other MMOs. I can do almost all content in crafted gear.
Weekly lockout is rough especially in savage, there can be weeks you get no gear. Plus you are basically locked into one class till you cleared the tier because you need some of the earlier raid gear for the last boss
Gear lockout is one of my only complaints in 14 and it’s a massive complaint. It’s so impactful that I have a second character specifically to prog fights not to impact my statics loot as well as to play alternate classes. One character heals. One character is a caster. But I shouldn’t have to do this.
I’ve been raiding since ARR and when savage became the norm in HW I think the reason it is set up this way is more for dissuading abuse with gearing (even tho it still kind of is with week 1 prog and alt characters) but essentially funneling gear to 1 person type situations. E.g. if loot was only character locked and you can go into a raid to help someone else or others with no restrictions, if 7 people are locked but 1 person isn’t, all that loot is available for that one or couple people and it throws the progression off. This would then obviously end up being abused and 1 person could essentially get fully geared in 1 week if they get carried through all 4 fights.
Kind of a rough explanation but I believe it’s just to make as even a field as possible.
Thanks for your videos Marty!
Switch the mindset? – Raid for Fun – not for gear (yeah, still pick a 'Main' for your static to get the weekly loot). But theres nothing stopping people raiding all week, to learn, improve, try new strats, new jobs, or just have fun – you just wont get a 2nd loot drop – but its not like you must have the latest and greatest gear maxed out to do savage – just my opinion
Casual QQ.
the main reason for it is to make where people are incentivized to have to grind it all week 1, giving you the ability to just grind as much gear as you want only promotes the hardcore side of raiding and just hurts the casual/midcore side of the community. FF14 has always been about the Casual/midcore side of the game
Well gear lockout in ffxiv or raid lockout in WoW? which would you prefer? If this was wow the minute you killed that boss it's gone for the whole week for you. At least here you can get gear and still help other people out.
Tomestone 700 gear isn't the worst thing to wear. 710 is better, but 700 with Materia 12's …. consider it challenge mode? What's the net stat gain from full 710 from 700?
As someone who is usually an avid defender of the game this is really one of the rare points where I ABSOLUTELY agree this system makes no sense it’s just annoying for the sake of being annoying if people wants to grind raid gear to play multiple jobs (as the game is intended btw ???) how about LETTING THEM ?? This is literally counter intuitive to the fun of endgame, so ye 100% this really makes no sense whatsoever
Why weekly lockout? Well, it's all business $$$
