Damn, a lot of the people on FFLogs don't play tanks then. Sometimes triple weaving a defensive in burst windows is necessary
I think i find myself triple weaving most at round the 2 minute burst more often than not cuz at times it makes things line up just a bit better as far as timers go and at times even just kinda locking myself in to better line up for a mechanic in some cases too
ppl r so repulsed by the concept of someone using tools to outperform them that they lose their heads at the mere discussion of why someone might want to use those tools at all. i don't really care one way or another but guys i think its more useful to use this as a means of discussion around job design and the way the 2m meta has only increased the amount of heavy consecutive weaves required, has only reduced the value of sks melds, has only further emphasized a need for a competitively low and reasonably stable ping in order to not grief your party.
don't shoot the messenger, ask questions and get thinking about what all this information means for the game as a whole
also lets be real, you don't have to bother fighting anim lock, you can just toss GSK out of buff window and as long as you don't screw everything else up you aren't going to troll your group with the potency loss. don't make it into an excuse for why you aren't clearing dps checks.

I'll take a crack at this discussion and hope I don't get torn up by the parse community in the process-
Triple weaving is a DPS/functionality loss in all circumstances, with probably very, very, very few exceptions. In terms of damage, GCDs all have higher potency than oGCDs, resulting in the effect that if you drift a GCD and potentially lose one or more skill uses before the boss kill time, resulting in a loss of potency. Sure, your burst goes up and you'll register higher on a DPS meter in the moment, but does not increase DPS fight-wide. In terms of tanking, if you're triple weaving mitigation, you're either 'kitchen sink'-ing, panicking, or trying to force enable some functionality for your job; or increase your party's survival. In an example, where you lose functionality, Warrior's bloodwhetting does not give health on oGCD skill usages. You're delaying self-healing and violating the prime directive of a tank when doing that.
I can't talk about healing and their oGCDs/triple weaving as well as I want to, as I am not skilled enough in healing to do so; perhaps a healer wants to add their thoughts?
As for being able to triple weave with the assistance of "NoClippy" or "Alexander"…
It breaks the fundamentals of what the combat was designed for and leads to unfair advantages, which you acknowledge in the video and in the comments here. "It's a strict advantage." Yes. It's a modification to FFXIV that I wish to see discontinued because it provides an unfair advantage, breaking the fundamentals of the combat in this game, and leads people onto the wrong path trying to optimize their damage.
It is unrealistic to even say "hey you can achieve this [triple weaving] with low ping" since no one from the playerbase will ever have that. Not even the devs themselves.
In the interest in promoting discussion, triple weaving may be a madman's way of improving damage (assume no use of NoClippy, assume GCD drift) and may very well lead to an improvement of damage *somewhere*. But someone would have to truly understand this game to know what that case is here. Recognizing non-optimized scenarios, a triple weave can help maintain or practice rotation in the interim to see if a skill can be lined up for use later down the line, in the case of long cooldowns (Dragonfire Dive, Addle, Macrocosmos, etc..) on a singular skill-to-skill basis.

Great vid ty for it! I'm always looking to optimize and DRG has many opportunities for it.
Regardless of use of tools, SE designed DRG to be at a direct disadvantage for a lot of people w/o it. For people wanting to optimize at a high lvl they feel like a necessity.
Now if only we can get starcross to be a ranged attack/have better ranged options than piercing talon 😅
