Marcel is watching an interview by Naoki Yoshida (Yoshi-P) the game director of Final Fantasy XIV about why Addons like DPS Meters are forbidden in FFXIV and why he doesn’t want people to use them.

I use ACT and to be honest, you can use them, as he said, the important thing is to not call out people on dps or say you are doing it
Wow
I use ACT and Gshade… Most other stuff can be handled by macros.
I had some thoughts on this if I could take a minute. Why do you need to know how much damage you are doing? If your DPS is lower than another's but you have the same item level, does that matter if you are both clearing content? WoW and FFXIV both have a minimum iLvl for gear to access some content. If you have the minimum iLvl you should be able to clear it. So… if you are able to clear the content not focused on the numbers that seems like a well designed fight. A fight that just requires you to have bigger numbers isn't a well designed fight. Its just a way to make players take longer. So FFXIV shifts away from this by in the most hardest fights, it limits your iLvl. You have the best stats for every raid/trial, the only reason you would fail it is skill, not numbers. It's better this way. If people are getting competitive over numbers that don't change the outcome of the fight, that just creates an elitism. Which is not good for the community.
those super hardcore raiders would have joined discord servers or something to find players they want. those people wont really bother doing public raids
not allowing add-ons isnt really an issue, it just creates a way for ingame elitism. with this stance from the devs, it ensures that EVERYONE will be able to enjoy the game
"If one person in the group does "bad" dps, the rest of the group will have a bad time because of wipes and all."
In WoW, there are so many dps, that one lost doesn't matter unless you're doing like hardcore mythic+ dungeons or mythic raiding. In such situations, if you're pushing the max with an avg gear lvl at or below the actual content, then I can imagine it somewhat making a difference to beating the enrage timer. That's a 0.1% content style mode.
In all other situations , grieving someone over their 'performance' is harassment. See if they're open for tips or if they have questions about their class if needed, but any other approach to this is harassment. Blizzard may have allowed this, but common sense and SE do not
In short, only use ACT to perfection yourself.
you can use add ons as long as you don't talk about it in-game. mods are viewed the same way. use them but dont talk about them
reward getting first timer clearers through a clear…. like a limited currency for special rewards. howboutdat
People who do ultimates do tend to use ACT. They just don't talk about it in game or publicly on stream. I'm fine with it that way tbh, outside of content with hard DPS checks that you really need a reliable way to measure your performance for, it's just a dick waving contest and I'm not really interested in that.
Alright, the reason you can't use ACT is that you don't need to use ACT. It's completely pointless. In FF14 you WILL clear the content as long as positioning is correct no matter how low the DPS is. There aren't any DPS checks that I can recall ever failing if everyone was paying attention and focusing the correct targets even if their dps was lower than average. FF14 designs their fights around proper positioning, not razor thin DPS checks.
EDIT: This is for pick up groups, not your hardcore raiding groups looking for world firsts or lower times or whatever.
