FFXIV: Dawntrail Rogue/Ninja 1 to 100 Leveling Skills Guide

New? Got too many skills? Made the mistake of using a level skip and have no idea what anything does? Just hate reading? Try this guide out!

This guide seeks to teach new Ninjas how to Ninja properly, without getting too deep into optimization. I’ll be showing off and explaining some openers but not delving too much deeper beyond that and general skill usage. Endgame is a long way away and there’s lots to learn along the way. Start slow and work your way up one skill at a time! Then, graduate to more advanced guides.

  1. I really love the artistic of this class, but dislike how punishing it was compare to other class.

    1) Mudra fail is a huge dps lost, ok normally but when lag spike it then yeah it whether u got Shuriken, or rabbit. 😛 Wish it was like Dancer but I get why they done that and work if fail it still get us something or refund Mudra like Monk you lost aoe dps but still get a sign still dps lost but better than rabbit which do nothing.

    2) TCJ punish for even a slight movement, wish it work like Lay Line so you can move slightly if accidentally press it.

  2. Huton being removed made the job so much more streamlined in a way I liked, it’s probably my most-played job outside of raiding now due to the functional uses of Mug/Dokumori, ranged attacks from ninjutsu complimented by Forked Raiju, and faster movement speed. Would heavily recommend it to anyone curious.

  3. another note for Shukuchi. there is an option in the character settings (i forget where exactly) that you can toggle so im pretty sure any targeted ground based attack, movement, ability etc cannot go past the target distance.

if i move my mouse farther than the range of Shukuchi, i can still click and it will go the max distance possible. this way i can just throw my mouse across the screen in the direction i want and get max distance instantly.

this is also very useful for the mech section in Praetorium

  4. The only thing I've wished since the rework occured was for ninja to get at level 60 a baby's-first Kunai's Bane. Make it 400 potency (same as the rear of trick attack) with the normal falloff that the full version gets. That way Ninja gets something at HW's end, and makes Huton have a use before Meisui. And like you said, there's not really anything going on during HW levels at this point

  5. And the first new job guide is ninja, because Viper is its flesh and blood son. XD

But seriously, great guide. I love the 'this to this' comparison where the after shows the minion acting confused that his master is gone.

Please do Astrologian next. I am playing that on my alt because I don't want to double up on expansion jobs and Astro is my least favorite healer. 🙁

EDIT: Nevermind, you did Monk before this.

  6. I'd argue that using Huton for Trick Attack is worthwhile on up to 3 enemies. On raw damage, it's going to do less initially –
3 x 350 = 1050 vs 3 x 240 = 720 for a total difference of 330. subtract 300 for Trick Attack's initial damage, and you're behind by 30. If you'll do more than 300 potency to the Trick target in the next 15 seconds, that's more damage. If it kills early compared to the other targets, that helps lighten the healer's load earlier. And of course, it's good practice for endgame.
With 4 targets you'd be behind by 140, and dealing 1400 AoE potency in 15 seconds is a big ask. I'm not sure you can do it even at 72 – I haven't done the math in that much detail.
I imagine it'd be worth it in a trash pack like the one from Amdapor that you showed, where that goat has a LOT more health than the summoned ochus, but that's not really usable as a standard thing; only in specific cases where you know the dungeon by heart.

  7. I did actually try to workshop an AoE opener myself and it's hilarious how many different variations there can be depending on when your Mudra come off cooldown again or how much ninki you have going into the opener, what you've got is about as good as many others, even with the forced clipping when you weave both Deathfrog Medium and Tenri Jindo after the Goka Mekkyaku. I think I personally throw out Dokumori a GCD sooner and use freed up weave on Bunshin, shift Meisui to be immediately after TCJ, and use Tenri Jindo after Phantom Kamaitachi. I think the difference between these two openers is like 2-3% at most though and with how hectic pulls can get with AoEs and such it's good enough.

  8. Every time I see a Ninja place Doton on a single target boss outside of pre-pull I can't help but mutter out loud to myself "Raiton is better than Doton, Raiton is better than Doton…"
